Chapter 472.2: Litte Feather's Ability

After thinking about it, it made sense. A Dragonfly’s range couldn’t be that far. He shouldn’t have held on to such unrealistic fantasies from the start.

While Falling Feather frowned, Little Feather who had followed him into the cockpit was oblivious as it let out a familiar roar in excitement. “Fuck!”

The voice behind him almost caused Falling Feather to choke on his own spit. He sprang up from the seat and scolded the little creature. “Don’t learn that. It's not a nice thing to say.”

“Yiwu?” Little Feather tilted its head. The tendrils at the back of its head rippled in puzzlement, as if it didn’t understand his reaction.

As Falling Feather lectured Little Feather, several figures approached the Eagle fighter they had passed earlier.

If Falling Feather had still been standing there earlier he would have been surprised. The pilot of the Cutlass he thought he had blown to pieces actually survived!

Even so, the man looked haggard and far from well.

Handcuffs with a fashionable design hung from his wrists as he was sandwiched between two armed guards.

A few men in white uniforms stood in front of him, peering with interest at the plane overrun by slime mold and whispering among themselves, apparently discussing something.

“Mutant Slime Mold? Of all places... Slime Mold in this godforsaken dump?”

“The infected host’s tissues and the slime mold were necrotized. Vital signs have completely disappeared... This looks like a desiccated corpse.”

“Interesting... This is worth studying.”

Seeing the wrecked scene inside the cockpit, Yker’s face turned a little pale.

That damn thing that had fired on him in the sky had been a Cruncher!

What outrageous technology does those savages possess? Turning living people into Crunchers... How utterly evil!

The man at the front turned his head to the detained Yker and said with interest, “The Sunset Province shouldn’t have Slime Mold. This filth must have been brought in from outside. Perhaps you can give me some leads?”

“I don’t know,” Yker said, his expression livid. “How would I know what those people calling themselves the New Alliance did? Why don’t you ask them?!”

“New Alliance...” one of his companion repeated the word, brooding over it for a while. “I think I’ve heard of them.”

Another attendant spoke up. “That survivor settlement that got involved with the Enterprise. Aren’t the the New Alliance?”

“Hm.” The man in the lead nodded. “I’ve heard of them too.”

Yker stared at those people and finally couldn’t help asking, “Who exactly are you?”

Their leader didn’t hide it. He gave a succinct reply. “Li Ke, Foreign Affairs Department, Special Projects Unit, Grade-B Researcher.”

At the first part of the reply Yker looked blank, but the moment he heard the title, he understood. “You... You guys are from the Academy?” he said incredulously.

“Yes,” Li Ke glanced at him casually and continued with a trace of ridicule in his voice. “Foolish Wislander... Congratulations on finally discovering our identity.”

“What do you want?” Yker asked warily.

“That’s not for you to worry about.” Li Ke drew his finger in a gentle arc, causing Yker to feel a faint stinging in his wrist.

He glared at the man angrily and was about to ask what had been done to him, but his throat was completely frozen. Not a single sound came out from his lips.

Cold sweat formed on his forehead and terror replaced the look in Yker’s eyes.

Li Ke casually turned his attention away and back to the Slime Mold covered Eagle fighter.

The Slime Mold and the infected host died at the same time. Cells belonging to both the human and the Slime Mold had withered simultaneously and no spores carrying genetic information were released.

He had never seen the strange symbiosis before.

However, there was no doubt about it. It was an evil technology.

Yet... A curious light flickered in his eyes as he murmured to himself. “Interesting.”

...

At dusk the next day.

A convoy of tanks and armored soldiers who were fully armed stretched out like a long snake as they finally arrived along the road at the checkpoint beneath Hill 330.

Sitting in the midst of the column in one truck, a bearded man with his face buried in a scarf looked toward Hill 330 with uncontrollable excitement.

Beyond that mountain lay a plateau, and beyond the plateau the Honey Badger Kingdom’s territory.

After countless hardships, he finally returned.

Not only was Yard of the resistance army excited. So were the soldiers accompanying the Skeleton Corps’ offensive.

Unlike those soldiers, most of the players on the trucks wore sullen expressions.

Many had driven nearly two days and hadn’t encountered any real resistance!

That feeling of having energy with nowhere to use it was unbearably frustrating!

A sentry point blocked their way as Construction Boy, with his rifle slung across his chest, brought a few strength type players to approach the convoy. With a wide smile on his face, he roared, “Hey, stop right there! Pay the toll if you wish to pass!”

Perched on a tank, Elf Wang called back with a smirk, “Fuck you! I got two 155mm rounds for your damn toll! Is it enough? If not, we’ll feed you another!”

“Sure, do you do same day delivery?”

“Of course we do! Point where you want it and we’ll fire immediately!”

Construction Boy’s eyes lit up instantly. “Really? Then help us blast our Corps Commander off his perch!”

Irene, sitting beside Elf Wang, grinned at that. “Hehe... Seems like he did something to offend you this time!”

Elf Wang was curious and prodded, “Come on, tell us... How did Sideline Slacking mistreat you guys this time?”

Construction Boy sighed and looked into the distance like he was recalling something sad. “Ah, don’t get me started. Ever since our Corps Commander demanded a batch of tricycles from logistics, he stopped treating us like proper humans.”

A newbie called Lawless Madman also wore a worried look. “Riding a tricycle all the way here... My body’s about to fall apart! This game’s too difficult to play!”

Another newbie nodded in agreement. “Exactly! It’s inhumane!”

While the newbies complained, Sideline Slacking, who was lollygagging nearby and leaning on a cane, happened to walk over from behind the checkpoint.

That guy had it rough. Earlier he had charged the high ground with a few intelligence type newbies, but he hadn’t lasted three seconds. He had fallen right after taking two steps up the slope.

Well, it was fine if he had been dead. However, he was eventually dug out of the pile of corpses, still breathing.

He had his legs shot and probably disconnected earlier as he fell and hit his head. Thankfully, because it wasn’t often intelligence type players got to charge the frontlines and gain experience, Sideline Slacking decided not to waste his experience and refused Eye Owe Money’s attempt to shoot him and send him off for real.

Listening to the newbies’ complaints, Sideline Slacking revealed a strange awkward look and tried to calm them down. However, Eye Owe Money beat him to it. With a crafty chuckle, he explained, “You don’t get it! Genetic sequences get stronger the more you use them! On the surface, you guys look like you’ve been sweating a lot while pedaling your tricycles, but in truth, you grew stronger! If you keep thinking like that, wouldn’t you feel better?”

The newbies were slightly taken aback. It nearly convinced them.

However, Construction Boy was no newbie. He knew the man too well. Without a word he tossed his gun aside, rolled up his sleeves and growled, “Don’t listen to this intelligence type trash. He’s mocking us! Brothers, let’s go teach him what us strength type players are capable of!”

Seeing Construction Boy leading the charge, Eye Owe Money panicked. “Hey, wait! I... I’m injured, don’t come closer!”

He couldn’t run fast enough. Seeing that pleading would be useless, he looked at Sideline Slacking for help. “Bro, save me!”

Sideline Slacking glanced at him and stepped aside. “If you didn’t go around pissing them off, this wouldn’t happen.”

“Exactly! Not even the administrator can save you today!” Construction Boy looked at Lawless Madman and yelled, “You lot, each take one arm! Go carry him while I find a lamppost!”

“All right!”

A few strength type players grinned evilly, hoisted Eye Owe Money despite his squealing, and went off up the slope looking for a lamppost.

Sitting on his truck, Yard stared at the commotion and said after a while, “What’s going on over there?”

Escaping Mole cleared his throat. “Ahem... It’s nothing. Those strength type fools are probably just pent up. Don’t worry, they’re just joking with their buddies, no one’s going to die.”

Compared with the reaction speed of those of the agility type and the constitution type’s endurance, strength types were less popular now, but who knew what the future patch would bring? Each game version spawned new gods.

For an old player like him who had seen every patch, nothing surprised him any longer.

Frankly speaking, strength type was still the best choice for newbies. It was fast to level and easy to pick up. No matter how other classes were buffed, more than half the awakeners in the New Alliance remained strength types.

Yard blinked and looked at the Corps Commander blankly. “Pent up... What does that mean?”

Maybe it was the grammar, but it just sounded off to him.

Without explaining to the NPC or noticing the misunderstanding, Escaping Mole waved out the window and the rails of the sentry post rose, letting the convoy pass.

When they drove near Sideline Slacking, Escaping Mole smiled and updated him. “We just got orders. Command told us to pass Hill 330 and then head northwest along the edge of Oasis No.3.”

Sideline Slacking frowned. “They changed the attack route?”

Escaping Mole nodded. “Yeah. According to the intelligence from Battlefield Cheerleader, the Army plans to abandon Oasis No.3. Our mission is to tail their routed troops and eliminate as much of their forces as possible, so when we push into Oasis No.2 there’ll be less resistance.” 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Sideline Slacking whistled, “Looks like we’re on our own here.”

“That’s right. And the trucks you dropped off will arrive the day after tomorrow, so you can rest here for two days. You won’t meet fierce resistance heading north. Actually, you might even run into villagers offering food and cheering for you guys. Just coordinate with the Honey Badger Kingdom’s Resistance Army and push through. It’s our turn to fight the hard battles, hehe.” Escaping Mole teased and then remembered something, glancing back along the long convoy. “Oh, on the way to Hill 330, we ran into several scattered units. Some were led by Wislanders, and the other by wastelanders. We confiscated their weapons and told them to follow their original route back. If nothing goes wrong, they should reach Hill 330 by this time tomorrow. Please take them into your command.”

Sideline Slacking frowned. “Are they from the Clone Corps?”

Escaping Mole nodded. “Yes.”

Sideline Slacking scratched the back of his head and muttered, “Those clones... How should we handle them?”

Previously, the New Alliance had encountered clones that fought until the last member fell, and only then did the junior officers surrender. He had never seen clone soldiers surrender alongside their officers.

Honestly, whether those guys counted as humans was something the New Alliance still hadn’t defined.

It wasn’t them being difficult either. It was a very practical question. After all, it concerned the decision to treat them as ordinary prisoners to be liberated, judged, and reformed, or treat them like mutants and purify them.

They weren’t mindless animals, but their minds were incomplete.

Escaping Mole shrugged helplessly. “How would I know? For now just keep an eye on them and ask the administrator when you get back!”
