The Young Miss Refuse To Love-Chapter 121: meat buns
Chapter 121: meat buns
Qi Jianyi leaned back slightly, her playful smile growing wider. "The villain," she said casually, her tone light but teasing. "You’d make a perfect one."
Song Chengfeng raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into an amused smirk. "The villain, huh?" he echoed. "Because I’m charming yet dangerous?"
Qi Jianyi let out a soft laugh, removing her finger from his chin. "Because you’re always scheming," she replied with a teasing glint in her eyes. "So handsome but also so annoying."
Song Chengfeng crossed his arms and leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low murmur. "If I’m the villain, then who’s my hero? You?"
She tilted her head, feigning deep thought. "I think I will be a side character," she said with a shrug. "Watching from a safe distance as you cause chaos."
"I don’t like that..." Song Chengfeng shook his head. He put both of his hands on the table, leaning down his body to Qi Jianyi. "Why don’t you be the villain’s wife? I’d like that," he whispered.
Shaking her head, Qi Jianyi replied amusedly, "Who wants to be your wife? I don’t want to be a villain."
Song Chengfeng shrugged nonchalantly and walked around the table and sat on the chair beside her. He shortened their distance and gently seducing, "I like you, Miss Yi. What should I do?" He purposely called out her author name while acting innocent.
"What do you want?" Qi Jianyi played along with him. She doesn’t even know why he suddenly changed the topic from a character to play to a sudden confession.
"I really want to be the male lead in your drama. Can you give me the role?" Song Chengfeng lowered his voice, making his already deep voice deeper as he stared at Qi Jianyi with hopeful eyes.
Fully understanding the plot Song Chengfeng was heading to, Qi Jianyi shook her head and seriously answered. "No. If you don’t have the talent, I will never give you the role."
She just looked like a serious and upright author who would not be involved in bribery.
"I can offer you my body..." Not giving up, Song Chengfeng began to unbutton his collar.
Seeing that he was too absorbed in his character, Qi Jianyi laughed and pushed the man away.
"Stop playing. We should get ready." She said between her laughter.
Seeing how his girlfriend no longer wants to play along, Song Chengfeng obediently stops and passes a stack of papers to her. The papers were the resumes for all of the actors that would be coming to audition today.
Qi Jianyi accepted the stack of papers, her smile lingering as she tried to compose herself. She flipped through the resumes, her expression quickly shifting from playful to focused.
"Looks like we’ve got a full house today," she remarked, scanning the names and photos.
Song Chengfeng rested his chin on his hand, watching her with a faint smile. "Of course, your writing is so good. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of it? This drama will surely be a hit." He took the chance to insert a compliment.
Still, his faint smile turned grimmed when he remembered something, "but, no matter how successful this drama will be. I don’t want you to work too hard. After we’re done choosing, you should rest and don’t get involved anymore. You might overexert yourself."
Qi Jianyi glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, her lips twitching upward. "Young Master Song, it seems that you have a lot of opinions to express today."
She narrowed her eyes and continued, "I promise that I won’t work too hard and take care of myself. But, for now, you, Mr. Song, don’t distract me. Just be obedient and sit handsomely beside me." She flashed him a playful smile.
Song Chengfeng raised his hands in mock surrender. "Fine, fine. I’ll just sit here quietly and admire the judge from afar."
Shaking her head with amusement, Qi Jianyi focused back on the resumes. "You’re impossible," she muttered, but there was no bite in her words.
After a moment, she set the stack of papers on the table, her demeanor shifting back to professionalism. "Alright, let’s get this started. The first actor should be arriving soon."
Song Chengfeng leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs. "I’ll leave it to you, Judge Qi. Just pay attention to their acting. Don’t fall in love with them. They’re all no good anyway." He still found the time to emphasise his jealousy at her.
After all, today’s audition was for the male lead. Which means, there would only be actors coming in. Though Song Chengfeng completely believed in his own charms, he wouldn’t let go the chance to act jealous to get Qi Jianyi’s attention.
Qi Jianyi shot him a warning glance but she was unable to control the tiny smile that was pulling at her lips. "I already have the person I chose by my side, so why should I like someone else?"
Song Chengfeng’s smile grew deeper when he heard her blunt confession. Anyway, no matter how many times Qi Jianyi expressed her feelings, he would always feel happy and content. As if, knowing that he was loved by Qi Jianyi was his greatest achievement.
Their banter eased the tension in the air, but as the door opened and the first actor stepped in, Qi Jianyi’s expression turned serious, ready to dive into her work.
...
"Let’s take a break," Song Chengfeng said, his voice calm yet firm, as he poured a cup of water for Qi Jianyi.
Qi Jianyi nodded lightly, her expression betraying her exhaustion. She leaned back in her chair and took a small sip from her drink, the cool liquid providing temporary relief.
Nearly two hours had passed since the audition began, and the relentless pace had taken a toll on her body. If she didn’t rest now, she feared she might collapse from sheer fatigue.
Noticing her weary demeanor, Song Chengfeng stood without hesitation. Concern etched across his face, he strode out to inform the production team of the need for a short break.
Moments later, he returned, carrying a small plate of steaming meat buns. Qi Jianyi blinked in mild surprise—she hadn’t even noticed him slipping away to get food.
"I got us something to eat," he said, his tone light as he set the plate down between them. Picking up two meat buns, he handed them to her. "Eat these first. There’s more if you want."
Qi Jianyi glanced at the plate. There were five buns in total, but it was clear he had no intention of taking any for himself. He was already making plans to save the rest for her, just in case she felt hungry later.
She shook her head gently and took only one bun from his outstretched hand. "Let’s eat together," she insisted, tugging him to sit down beside her.
Reluctantly, Song Chengfeng complied, picking up a bun for himself as Qi Jianyi took a tentative bite of hers. The rich aroma and savory flavor enveloped her senses, and she closed her eyes momentarily, savoring the experience. The tender filling and soft, fluffy exterior felt like a small comfort amid the grueling day.
"As expected, meat buns never disappoint," she murmured softly, a faint smile gracing her lips.
"Do you like it?" Song Chengfeng asked, his voice tinged with a slightly pampered tone, his gaze soft as he watched her.
Qi Jianyi nodded happily, her expression brightening with genuine delight. Holding out the meat bun in her hand, she offered it to him without hesitation. "Do you want to try it?" she asked, her tone light and inviting.
Not one to let such a rare opportunity slip through his fingers, Song Chengfeng leaned forward and took a deliberate bite from the exact spot she had bitten earlier. A faint smirk played on his lips as he licked them slowly, savoring the taste—or perhaps something more.
"It’s really good," he said, his voice carrying a trace of satisfaction, though the reason for his contentment remained a secret only he knew.
Completely oblivious to the hint of mischief behind his actions, Qi Jianyi simply assumed he enjoyed the meat bun as much as she did. Smiling, she pushed the plate with the remaining four buns toward him.
"If you like it, have more," she said cheerfully. "I can’t finish all of this by myself." Her voice was warm, and her happiness unrestrained, as if sharing food with him made the simple meal even better.
Song Chengfeng hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering between her and the plate of buns. "Are you sure?" he asked, though his hands were already moving toward the food.
Qi Jianyi had always made it abundantly clear that she loved meat buns. It was one of the few things she openly admitted to cherishing, so Song Chengfeng had naturally been prepared to let her have them all without question.
Yet, watching her now—eagerly pushing the plate toward him and offering to share the small treasure of buns—stirred something deep within his heart. Her simple gesture carried a meaning far beyond the act itself.
It wasn’t just about food. It was about sharing something she loved, something she found comfort in, with him.
The thought was unexpectedly tender, and it struck him harder than he cared to admit. After all, her willingness to part with what she cherished spoke volumes. It felt like an unspoken connection, a quiet acknowledgment of trust and care that words didn’t need to express.
Ironically, to anyone watching, their actions might have seemed absurd. The way they treated the few meat buns, as though they were precious treasures rather than a common snack, could easily give the impression that they were struggling to afford more.
It was almost comical, as if these buns were their only sustenance, the last pieces of food they had.
But for Song Chengfeng, it wasn’t about the scarcity of the buns or their value. It was about the sentiment behind her actions—an unguarded moment that revealed a side of Qi Jianyi she rarely let others see. Because he could even afford to buy a whole stall of meat buns for her, but instead of doing so, this little sharing moved him most.
Qi Jianyi thinks of him as much as he did to her. She wanted to share good things with him too. She would share her little happiness with him too. It was these little things that seemed trivial that stirred his heart even more.
And in that moment, he couldn’t help but cherish the scene even more. He wished they could stay happy like this forever.
"Of course! Don’t hold back," she replied, her tone encouraging. Seeing her smile, Song Chengfeng couldn’t help but chuckle softly. The exhaustion of the day seemed to fade just a little in the warmth of this shared moment.
