The Young Miss Refuse To Love-Chapter 106: Amusement park
Chapter 106: Amusement park
"What’s too much? Why bother that man when your cousin—me—is right here?" He Zeqing retorted shamelessly.
There was no way he would let Song Chengfeng join in the fun when he himself wasn’t even invited.
Qi Jianyi sneered at his words. It was obvious that He Zeqing was just jealous because no one had invited him. novelbuddy-cσ๓
Was it really so difficult to admit he wanted to go with them too? Did he have to pretend he was reluctant just because he didn’t want Song Chengfeng there?
"Brother Zeqing, if you want to go, you can just say it, you know? We won’t judge you at all," Qi Jinlu teased his elder cousin from behind.
Even the usually silent Qi Jinli chimed in, echoing his brother, "That’s right. It’s not like we won’t let you join us," he said, nodding his head earnestly.
He Zejin, eager to join in the fun and tease his elder brother, opened his mouth to add a comment. However, before he could get a word out, He Zeqing shot him a sharp glare, daring him to speak if he no longer valued his life.
He Zejin immediately clamped his mouth shut, losing all interest in teasing. He didn’t dare annoy his brother further, knowing the punishment that might follow.
Watching the interaction between the siblings, everyone in the living room shook their heads and laughed. Grandma He smiled warmly as she observed her grandchildren’s camaraderie. Even though her youngest granddaughter wasn’t present, it didn’t dampen her mood.
Turning to her right, she met her husband’s eyes. Grandpa He, fully aware of his wife’s joy, gently held her hands. The two of them had spent almost their entire lives together, and he knew exactly how much it meant to her to see their grandchildren play and support one another.
Initially, because of Qi Jianyi’s cold demeanor and distant attitude, the twins hadn’t dared to approach her, let alone He Zejin, who had seen firsthand how she ignored them.
Meanwhile, He Zeqing had always been mature for his age. He didn’t enjoy playing with the other children, preferring instead to spend time with Song Chengfeng, who also acted older than his years.
As a result, the two oldest grandchildren had never been close to one another. During family gatherings, though children from the side-branch families would also attend, they all tended to keep to themselves, making the atmosphere distant and fragmented.
"Okay, okay, don’t fight. You’re all grown up and still want to go to the amusement park like little kids? And Zeqing, Jianyi already invited Song Chengfeng. It’s rude to take back her words. How can you say something like that and embarrass your cousin?" Aunt Fu chimed in, stepping in to save her youngest son from being bullied by his brother.
Hearing his mother’s words, He Zeqing shrugged casually. "What’s embarrassing? He’s my friend. He wouldn’t get hurt over something like this. Mom, stop defending Song Chengfeng," he said, his tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction. His mother always seemed to side with Song Chengfeng.
Sometimes, He Zeqing couldn’t help but wonder who her real son was—him or Song Chengfeng.
Noticing the look on her son’s face, Aunt Fu rolled her eyes and gave his arm a light smack. "Why are you still jealous of him?"
"Who is jealous of that jerk?" He Zeqing retorted immediately, refusing to admit anything. He was an adult now; why should he be jealous over trivial things? Absolutely not!
"It’s fine, Auntie. Since Cousin Zeqing wants to go too, he can take the twins and Zejin with him. I’ll go with Song Chengfeng in his car," Qi Jianyi said deliberately, her tone playful and defiant.
The more He Zeqing tried to keep her from meeting Song Chengfeng, the more determined she was to stick with him.
He Zeqing’s face darkened at her words, his expression sharp and unreadable. Narrowing his eyes, he shot back, "Don’t tell me you’re actually considering accepting that bastard’s feelings?"
Qi Jianyi tilted her head slightly, utterly baffled by his response. What on earth is wrong with this man? She really couldn’t follow the odd logic behind his words.
Before she could respond, Mr. Qi, who had been quietly enjoying the family banter, suddenly cut in, his tone heavy with concern. "Jianyi, you barely know that kid. Don’t rush to accept him."
The atmosphere tensed as Mr. Qi leaned forward slightly, his anxiety clear. There was no way he was letting Song Chengfeng steal his precious daughter’s heart so easily.
Not when Jianyi had just started warming up to them and growing closer as a family.
To him, the idea of Song Chengfeng felt like a pig eyeing the cabbage he had lovingly nurtured. The mere thought was enough to spark a surge of protective fatherly instinct.
Mrs. Qi, however, was not impressed with her husband’s sudden outburst. Rolling her eyes, she delivered a quick smack to his arm.
"Why are you getting so worked up? Did she even say she was going to accept him?"
She sighed in exasperation, shaking her head at Mr. Qi’s overreaction. "We agreed, didn’t we? No interfering in Jianyi’s personal decisions. Let them figure things out for themselves!"
Mrs. Qi’s words were firm yet laced with annoyance. How could he jump to conclusions and outright reject someone before Jianyi even said a word? That was hardly the way to let their daughter grow.
Qi Jianyi, sitting quietly through the exchange, could only sigh inwardly. Watching her father act like a dramatic lead and her mother trying to calm the situation was enough to make her feel both helpless and amused.
Still, she chose not to interrupt, letting them carry on with their melodrama.
"You guys are thinking too much." She answered, completely dispelled her family’s thoughts that have wandered too far.
"Anyway, it’s decided," Qi Jianyi announced with a calm yet commanding tone, effectively steering the conversation back to its original focus.
"I’ll go with Chengfeng, and the rest of you will go with Cousin Zeqing. Do any of you have objections?"
The twins, Qi Jinlu and Qi Jinli, along with He Zejin, shook their heads in unison. Their swift and synchronized response clearly indicated their agreement. None of them seemed to have any issues with her arrangement.
Qi Jianyi nodded in satisfaction, a small smile tugging at her lips. See? she thought. Talking to three younger brothers is so much easier than dealing with one older cousin.
With the teens voicing their decisions, only He Zeqing remained silent. His stiff posture and darkened expression betrayed his inner turmoil.
Yet, as much as he wanted to protest, he could see that his opinion no longer held any weight in the discussion.
At that moment, He Zeqing realized that he had officially lost his standing as the eldest sibling in this group. His authority as an older brother and cousin had been completely overridden.
Unable to do anything else, He Zeqing could only grit his teeth and swallow his frustration, following along with the plan.
"Whatever," he muttered under his breath, trying to convince himself it didn’t matter. "I’m the oldest, after all."
Still, his mood remained sour, and the sight of Qi Jianyi happily chatting with the others only made him feel more alienated.
It seemed that, for the first time, being the oldest meant being left out entirely.
...
"What’s wrong with that guy? Why is he looking at me like he wants to kill me?" Song Chengfeng asked in an incredulous tone, his eyes fixed on He Zeqing’s car as he opened the door for Qi Jianyi.
Qi Jianyi, who was just about to step out of the car, paused and followed his gaze. Sure enough, He Zeqing’s glare was sharp enough to pierce through the air. His displeasure was practically radiating from where he sat.
"What else could it be?" Qi Jianyi said with a helpless smile. "He just thinks you’re an eyesore."
Song Chengfeng grinned unabashedly at her blunt response, shutting the car door behind her as he reached for her handbag.
With a smug look, he added, "Good. I like it that way." His voice was shamelessly cheerful, as if He Zeqing’s hostility was something he thrived on.
Qi Jianyi chuckled lightly, shaking her head at his confidence. "You’re really something else," she murmured before turning her attention to the three teenagers standing nearby, their restlessness impossible to miss.
"Sister, let’s go! Let’s ride a roller coaster!" Qi Jinlu exclaimed, excitement shining in his eyes as he grabbed her arm, pulling her slightly in his eagerness.
But his idea was immediately shot down by his younger twin. Qi Jinli quickly shook his head in disapproval, his expression serious as he countered, "No, brother. The roller coaster is too extreme for our sister. She’ll get dizzy. Mom said we can’t let her get dizzy."
Qi Jinlu blinked, processing the reminder, before nodding fervently in agreement.
"Yes, yes! Sister, let’s not do the roller coaster. We can play something else instead," he said earnestly, his earlier excitement redirected to something more considerate.
Qi Jianyi smiled warmly at their concern, patting their heads affectionately.
"Alright, no roller coasters. We’ll find something fun that all of us can enjoy," she assured them.
Meanwhile, Song Chengfeng stood to the side, watching the interaction with mild amusement. He Zeqing walked to his side without a word. Though he glared at Song Chengfeng earlier, it was all just a look of dissatisfaction. He’s not really angry with Song Chengfeng.
