The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 284: Like a sun in the winter
Two hours later, the painting was finished and left at school for drying. Chairman Tai planned to show up in two days to have lunch with Alix and take it along with him. He made her promise not to paint anyone else, especially not grandpa Tai before his painting was revealed to the rest of the family.
After bidding him goodbye with a hug which was not awkward at all, Alix returned to her office and packed up her personal items.
She passed by Jin Kang’s office first and knocked on the door.
"I am leaving."
"Already?" Jin Kang asked.
"I have an emergency." she replied.
"Is everything okay?" Jin Kang asked her, both curious and worried.
She nodded. "Nothing I can’t handle."
"I am having dinner with Zhang An. Will you be joining us or is it dinner with hubby as usual?"
"Hubby." Alix replied. She even shrugged because the answer was pretty much obvious.
Jin Kang pointed to the new songbird academy calendar that was sitting on her desk and said, "We have a savings meeting on Sunday, don’t forget it. Rich girl Zhang apparently wants in. You know her best, why do you think she wants to join us? She has money, she doesn’t need to do it." freёweɓnovel.com
"It’s something we do as friends and she is now a friend. It’s not about money, it’s about following the herd." Alix answered. She looked at her watch and frowned. "I really have to go now."
She took one step and turned back because she Recalled something important.
"I can’t do Sunday. My eldest brother is taking me to the amusement park. We can do Saturday if it’s convenient for everyone."
Jin Kang looked at her computer and then at Alix. Her Sunday was free and open but it didn’t mean everyone was the same. "I will ask them and see. Meanwhile, have you thought about selling tickets for the music festival? The school should produce it’s own money, you can’t keep funding it out of your wallet personally."
"Sell." Alix said.
Jin Kang’s face lit up. "How much?"
"Two hundred to six hundred yuan." Alix responded. She wanted to make it affordable for the guests.
Jin Kang shook her head. "Too cheap. You have many rich students at the school. We can afford to charge more."
Alix was the one to shake her head this time round. "There is a difference between Yuwen and Songbird. The rich students are mostly at Yuwen and the music festival is a Songbird event. Look, let’s discuss this over the phone or in person tomorrow. I have to run."
She practically run away because when it came to money matters concerning the school, Jin Kang was like a tick. She would not let go until Alix came to see things her way.
Short of an hour later, Alix was inside Caishen’s office. Her arrival caused quite the stir because rarely was seen by the employees. She was like the sun in winter, an impossibility of sorts.
Many employees had tried to catch a glimpse of her because they had never seen her before and her presence here was a surprise.
As a matter of fact, they would not have known of her presence if Caishen’s bodyguards did not go in person to pick her up.
Caishen was surprised to see Alix as well because he was not expecting her.
"What are you doing here?" he blurted out.
He came out from behind his desk and approached her just as she set down her bag.
"Not that i am not happy to see you. You are my wife, and you are always welcome here." He was quick to add.
"That’s good to know." She replied.
Her eyes moved around the office as she recalled the words of professor He about the absence of personal pictures.
She sat down in the largest chair and then laid down for extra comfort. Her head was facing his desk and the window behind it. He moved his wheelchair closer so that they would face each other.
"Hey." he said softly. He moved his hand and swept back the hair which had fallen across her cheeks. She had on a grey winter hat that had a few snow flakes which had illegally sneaked inside.
He brushed them away and they fell to the ground.
She smiled and partially closed her eyes. "It’s so warm in here."
He couldn’t argue with that. His mother had made sure to keep his office well insulated. She even went as far as to have a small fire place built in so that he could be cozy when he worked over night.
The hand which had brushed away the snowflakes returned to her cheek. He noted the red tinge on her cheeks and nose so he took off his scarf and wrapped it around her neck, pulling it up to cover her nose.
She lowered it and shook her head irrespective of the look of disapproval in his eyes.
Baby, Caishen’s cat jumped onto the sofa and snuggled with Alix.
"I came to talk to you about something." she told him as she rubbed the cats head. "Dahei trust management, my father dropped by to have lunch with me and told me that someone over there is responsible for your problems with the hotel ruins which you are trying to redevelop."
He stared at her as if she was telling him something very obvious. There was no surprise on his face.
"You know." she said, in a questioning tone.
He nodded. "I found out two days ago. Mo Sen found it when I asked him into Wang Yong’s finances. I couldn’t wrap my head around how someone from a background like his had managed to snatch a few big projects from a company like mine. You need money, reputation and influence in this field."
He paused and scratched the corner of his left eye.
"Hmmm," she said. It had randomly crossed her mind that she had never seen him scratching or rubbing his eyes, not even in the morning when he had just woken up.
"Wang Yong was loaned a hefty amount money by someone in Dahei through a group of local thugs operating as loan sharks. In addition to that, my father has three life insurance policies with Dahei life insurance. I think the pictures are falling in place and I can now see the sequence of things that lead to my misfortune." he continued.
He could see the sequence of things as he said but she didn’t.
"So, do you have an enemy in Dahei? What are you planning to do about the ruins? You spent millions acquiring them. My father said that politics is involved. His friend said that the mayor might personally be involved in the matter."
She was still talking when he touched her nose and made a beeping sound.
She slapped his hand away and sat up. The way he was acting was completely unlike him. Since when was he playful?
"Will you be serious for a minute? We are talking about something important here."
He chuckled and replied, "I am very serious right now."
"About what exactly?" she frowned.
"About admiring your beauty." he deadpanned.
