Chapter 72: Recognized (2)

While whispering with each other, Khal also moved with them.

"Let me carry your bag." Khal touched Ayen’s bag.

Ayen let him get the bag, and it slid off him.

Just as Ayen was about to say something again, he suddenly remembered. He seemed to have forgotten something.

Ayen glanced beside him, then paused. He immediately met Nolan and Lucian’s shocked expressions. He was looking as though he was asking for help or something.

Devion also noticed the two guides with Ayen. His gaze swept the two. "Are they your friends?" he asked.

Nolan and Lucian could not help but straighten their postures as if any slight mistakes could cost them their lives.

Khal did not speak, merely watching the two. Shivers run down their spines; they can hardly believe that this simple send-off would have such a terrifying twist.

Ayen thought for a moment. They were not exactly friends, but should he say no?

"You can say that." Ayen chose to answer this way.

Devion immediately understood; the two should be more than Ayen’s acquaintances. He did not respond yet; Devion glanced at Khal, who was watching the two guides.

His gaze then shifted back to Ayen, and he asked.

"Is this okay? They recognized us." Devion seriously sought Ayen’s opinion, and that might also be what was running on Khal’s mind.

The reason they could not react immediately was that Ayen did not let the two leave when they were about to arrive. Or should they have put more effort into disguising themselves?

Ayen was initially conflicted about that. He always wanted to make their involvement a secret, didn’t he? Being mentioned alongside their names was trouble.

"It’s fine. If it’s only them," Ayen answered, looking at the two. "They won’t tell anyone." He specifically stared at Lucian. Nolan was somewhat safe, but Lucian might spread it.

Suddenly, Khal and Devion’s eyes bore on the two, and they quickly nodded their heads.

"Of course," Nolan said. He said only two words, but he almost stuttered because of his nervousness. Lucian could only nod, looking at Ayen with pleading eyes.

Even his own backer would surrender if he got into trouble with these two espers.

Ayen patted them on their backs, reassuring them. They sighed in relief with that, but did not dare to actually take a deep breath with the two SS-class espers present.

"Let’s go?" Ayen looked at Devion and Khal. They could not linger in front of the association building, or someone might recognize the two again.

Nolan and Lucian were only so scared stiff because of how huge Khal and Devion’s identities were; it was not that the two gave them a hard time.

They merely looked at them, and that was it. Perhaps it would be different if Ayen denied being friends with them.

"Suddenly, I want to sleep." Lucian, with his weakened knees, leaned on Nolan.

The three were long gone, but the two had not moved for the past ten minutes.

"I never thought..." Nolan paused in time. Ohh, that was dangerous. "You, never spread about it. Or we’ll both be dead."

Lucian could not even roll his eyes and, as though he had been wronged, touched his head. He did not respond to that, but he still nodded.

He was not dumb. Ayen was actually the Guide of the two SS-class espers! How monstrous of news was that? Of course, since it was a secret until now, Lucian was not crazy enough to provoke their ire.

"Yet, think about it, Nolan," Lucian whispered, his mind all over the place when he realized. "No one will believe us anyway."

Nolan also thought about it, then nodded. He laughed and patted Lucian. "Let’s go up. I’m already freezing."

About Ayen and his espers, who turned out to be the most powerful espers, the two dared not think more of them.

Honestly, Ayen was also taken aback by what happened. He did not anticipate the scenario, although he was not upset. On the contrary, there was some kind of relief in his heart.

Was this the satisfaction of someone knowing he was Devion and Khal’s guide?

Still, he still did not want his involvement with the two to spread all over the world yet.

"Can you trust them?" Khal asked, putting a huge pizza on the table.

They were getting ready for dinner and only thought of heating up the pizzas that Devion made earlier.

"Not really." Ayen could not even say he trusted Khal and Devion wholeheartedly; how could he trust others? "But, I believe they won’t spread it."

"What made you let them see us?" Devion chimed in at the side, mixing some sauces.

Ayen looked at him for a moment, then at Khal, who was also looking at him.

"I suddenly want to do it." Ayen made no excuses, such as that he did not anticipate it or anything. Deep inside him, he truly wants to let the two know.

Didn’t he wonder a few days prior what would happen if Lucian knew his espers were Devion and Khal? Now, his curiosity was satisfied.

Khal chuckled. His worries eased, and he put a piece of pizza on Ayen’s plate. Devion also smiled, shaking his head.

At least Ayen seemed happy, so there was no need to worry.

While eating, Devion thought of something.

"That one with the buzz cut, I think I already saw him before."

"Lucian?" Ayen uttered the name, and Devion nodded. "Where? In the capital?" He knew that Lucian was from the capital but was assigned to this red zone to flee the upcoming storm.

Khal swallowed the remaining food in his mouth.

"I remembered him, too." He did not say where he saw Lucian, as if to save it for Devion.

"He’s with..." Devion tapped his chin with his pointed fingers, his left hand holding a pizza. "Ah! The Commander General," he exclaimed, but soon bit on the pizza as though his interest waned after remembering them.

"Commander general?" Ayen instinctively repeated.

He knew this figure as well. If the Institute had Clynne at the forefront, then the official government’s army had the Commander General.

Khal wiped his hands with a tissue. "Your other friend, he’s Clynne’s Guide."

Ayen looked at him in surprise. But then again, he might have known Clynne personally.

Devion was also surprised. "Uh," he looked at Ayen. "How come... They became roommates with you?"

It was no coincidence, or was it?

The two suddenly looked at Khal, who was shrugging his shoulders. But the two nodded at each other.

It must be his doing.
