The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 69: A Fresh Start
Warwick looked embarrassed, deliberated for a moment, and said, "I heard your Matron got into trouble. Considering she is your Matron, you probably wouldn’t bear to see her suffer in the dungeon, so I wanted to ask for your help to get her out."
Mason stared at him, naturally unwilling to let Matron suffer in the dungeon and indeed wanted to rescue her from there.
These past few days, he had been secretly arranging matters, yet had not taken action, when this beastman came knocking.
"Saving her is my business. Who are you? Why are you so concerned about my Matron?"
His eyes narrowed slightly, exuding a dangerous aura.
"Because... I am... a friend of your Matron."
Warwick hesitated briefly, ultimately choosing this word.
The outcome of Quinn Morgan’s affair with the beastman Aidan Veridian was already witnessed; he did not want to become the second person. Naturally, he couldn’t admit it at such a time.
Admitting it would only complicate things further.
Mason stared intently at Warwick, as if trying to judge the credibility of his words.
After a moment, he slowly said, "Alright, I’ll help you. But if you dare deceive me, I’ll make you face the consequences."
Regardless of whether what this guy said is true or false, given the current situation, Matron truly isn’t suited to remain in The Wolf Tribe.
If she continues to stay, she will only be tortured to death by Father.
Moreover, the concern in Warwick’s eyes didn’t seem fake, not hesitating to risk safety to infiltrate The Wolf Tribe to rescue her.
Perhaps if Matron goes with him, there might be a chance of survival.
Actually, he leaned towards believing Warwick to be Matron’s lover, just like Aidan Veridian.
Despite thinking this way internally, he didn’t expose it.
Warwick nodded happily, "Rest assured, what I said is all true. Once your Matron is rescued, I will take her to live in The Raging Lion Tribe."
Speaking of which, perhaps fearing objections, he added: "You also know your Matron isn’t suited to stay in The Wolf Tribe anymore; coming with me to The Raging Lion Tribe is the best choice."
Mason naturally realized this point, giving a slight nod without saying much.
Then, the two began discussing the specific rescue plan.
Mason knew the geography and defense conditions of The Wolf Tribe like the back of his hand, but all checkpoints had beastman guards.
So long as he pretended to give orders from Father to let those beastmen permit passage.
As for the aftermath, once Father knew, how he might punish him, Mason couldn’t care less.
He is Father’s only son; even if Father grew angry, at most he’d beat him up, but wouldn’t take his life.
Luna Sutton and Kian Sterling had just arrived at the back mountain when they accidentally overheard this scene.
The two exchanged a glance, seeing surprise in each other’s eyes.
Saying nothing, they quietly moved to the nearby bushes, hiding and listening intently.
It wasn’t until Warwick and Mason discussed acting tonight, without arranging a meeting spot, that they went separate ways.
Luna came out of the bushes, looking toward the direction Warwick and Mason left in, her expression thoughtful.
That Warwick is likely Quinn Morgan’s lover from The Raging Lion Tribe, surprised they obtained information so quickly and came to her rescue.
She felt torn, wondering whether to inform Father Lyle Sutton about this matter.
Truthfully, she disliked Quinn Morgan, but after all, Quinn Morgan is her biological Matron; getting to this point already counts as earned punishment, no need to trample her down.
However, if she doesn’t stomp her down now, given Quinn Morgan’s character, she has probably guessed already that Luna and Lyle secretly reported, and would definitely not spare Luna.
Kian saw her frowning and silent, looking conflicted, "What’s wrong?"
Luna looked at him, sighing softly, "I’m pondering whether to tell Father about this. You know how much Father hates Matron. If Father knows Matron is rescued, he’ll surely fly into a rage, and my brother Mason will surely face punishment."
She paused, continuing, "Yet if I tell Father, Matron might lose her life. Though I dislike her and she treats me poorly, she is still my Matron."
Kian’s lovely fox-like eyes sparkled, looking at her for a while.
He then gently said, "Then don’t tell the leader; after all, your Matron has been punished already, no need to eliminate completely."
"But the affair between Matron and Aidan Veridian was reported by me..."
She looked troubled, seeing no one else around, finally speaking that sentence.
Kian was never someone to gossip; even knowing she reported, he would certainly not say a word.
Kian looked at her incredulously, "You reported it?"
Luna nodded, "I simply told Father that Matron is overly good to Mia, even though I’m her daughter she always protected others. Outsiders might think Mia is her child. Thus, Father grew suspicious and secretly investigated this."
After hearing this, Kian fell silent for a while, "You’re likely concerned that after Matron is rescued by Warwick, she’d find out you reported, and comes back to trouble you. You want to tell the leader, but fear he’d misunderstand you as cold-hearted, growing wary of you, right?"
He pointed out accurately.
Given his understanding of Luna and the situation, this mother-daughter duo shared no bond.
Luna looked embarrassed, surprised how perceptive Kian was.
She nodded slightly, acknowledging his words.
Then, feeling a bit frustrated, she tousled her hair, "So now I’m very torn, unsure what to do."
Kian smiled gently, speaking softly, "Actually, you need not be torn. Your Matron rescued by the beastmen of The Raging Lion Tribe, it’s hard for the leader not to find out. Your brother Mason is likely involved too, the leader being clever, could easily discover this. Thus, even if you remain silent, the leader will eventually know."
Suddenly enlightened, "Of course, why didn’t I consider that? Kian, you’re truly smart."
Indeed, foxes are clever, this saying is utterly true.
She felt that in future moments of indecision, she could consult Kian.
Kian smiled gently, recalling her original invitation, "By the way, what was the reason you invited me to the back mountain?"
Luna remembered the back mountain’s purpose, her face blushed slightly, "Kian, actually I invited you to the back mountain to develop feelings, to improve our relationship."
Seeing his surprised look at her, she continued, "I realize Father leveraged his kindness to force you to marry me, but with my former ways, you were unwilling. Yet due to owing Father a debt, you had to agree reluctantly."
"But what I wish to say is, let the past remain past, can we start anew? I promise to try being a good companion, to live joyfully with you."
At this, she looked up at Kian, appearing slightly nervous.
Such words of love to a man, she was expressing for the first time.
For fifty packs of tissues, she felt she was really pushing limits.
Kian listened, surprised flashing through his lovely fox-like eyes.
Indeed, he hadn’t expected Luna to express such sentiments.
If spoken by her former self, perhaps, not a word would be believable.
Yet now, meeting those sincere and beautiful peach-like eyes, emotion stirred in his heart.
Perhaps, he could truly try connecting with her anew?
At least, she had changed greatly now.
Not to mention anything else, her cooking skills alone tempted him immensely.
Kian smiled gently, his expression soft, "Alright, we can start over. But I hope you’re genuine, not just a fleeting whim."
