The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 398 - 307: Matters of the Heart
Corbin Crowley, Rhys Blackwood, and the others didn’t stop him; they just watched Caleb Manning disappear into the night.
They all knew in their hearts that once Caleb left, he probably wouldn’t return.
However, this outcome was exactly what they wanted.
Kian Sterling furrowed his brow slightly, feeling that letting him go was like releasing a tiger back to the mountains. It would be better to kill him to eliminate future troubles.
Why leave a problem behind?
But since Luna had said to let Caleb go, he couldn’t argue.
Malachi Arcanus showed a bit of reluctance between his brows, his expression very complicated.
To be honest, he quite liked Caleb. After spending so much time together, there was a bit of brotherly affection between them.
With this sudden departure, he felt a strange unease in his heart. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Luna Sutton gazed in the direction where Caleb disappeared, feeling a mix of emotions.
Though she was somewhat saddened by Caleb’s choice, she also understood it as reasonable.
If Chloe Callahan had died and Caleb was so cold as to not even retrieve her body, she would have found him terrifyingly cold-blooded instead.
Letting him go like this was better, to avoid Pearl Vance channeling her hatred onto herself.
"By the way, system, didn’t you implant a virus in the rogue plugin last time, causing it to be paralyzed for three months? Could we do it again? It would be even better if we could completely dismantle it."
Luna Sutton thought of something and asked internally.
The system replied lazily, "Last time, it was because Chloe Callahan owed 500 points, and I took advantage of its low energy and lack of defense to implant a virus. Now it is on guard, and implanting a virus isn’t so easy anymore. Besides, frequently taking action against it might alert it, and if it’s pushed to the edge, it could turn desperate, and things could end badly."
She thought about it and agreed it made sense; she had been too impatient.
Yet the rogue plugin kept inciting Pearl Vance against her, leaving her feeling uneasy.
Pearl Vance was intelligent, calm, and ruthless, with memories of her past life.
If such a person became an enemy, she would be difficult to deal with.
She certainly didn’t want to provoke such a big trouble for no reason.
The system seemed to sense her unease and comforted her, "Host, you don’t need to worry too much. Pearl Vance has a clear sense of right and wrong. As long as you don’t touch Caleb, she won’t act against you. Of course, if that dead tiger can’t forget you and Pearl Vance can’t win over Caleb, she might act out of jealousy, and that would be difficult to predict."
Caleb was Pearl Vance’s weak spot and also the fuse.
Luna Sutton’s mouth twitched; this was truly an unforeseen calamity.
If she’d known earlier, she wouldn’t have kept Caleb by her side as some kind of Guardian.
This wasn’t just asking for trouble?
"Forget it, we’ll deal with the problems as they come. As long as Pearl Vance doesn’t provoke me, I won’t go looking for her. Of course, if she dares to do anything, I’m not just going to sit by."
Luna Sutton’s mind was restless.
The surrounding Beastmen, learning that Chloe Callahan had died, were full of sighs and began to gossip.
"That calamity is finally dead; it’s a good thing she’s gone."
"Exactly, after all the bad things she did, she should’ve been dead long ago."
"I have to say, this Caleb is something. Miss Cynthia wasn’t bad to him, yet he left several times because of Chloe Callahan. I see him as an ungrateful wretch who’d better not come back."
"Don’t be so harsh. Chloe Callahan wasn’t good, but once they were partners, it’s only natural for him to want to collect her body now that she’s dead."
...
There were those who sympathized, those who watched with amusement, those who rejoiced in misfortune, and those who thought Chloe Callahan deserved death, and even more who thought Caleb was an ingrate.
Of course, these discussions were all deliberately kept low, so Luna Sutton wouldn’t hear them and become displeased.
Luna Sutton couldn’t be bothered to care about what these Beastmen thought; after all, it was just trivial gossip that wouldn’t affect her life.
She didn’t remain standing in place, turning to leave, the men following her in a silent understanding.
On their way back.
The system suddenly reminded her in her mind, "Host, Kian Sterling has been having some mental issues lately, all dark and negative thoughts. You’d best have a heart-to-heart with him."
Hearing this, Luna Sutton paused slightly, turning to look at Kian Sterling behind her.
The night was hazy, the silver moon hung high, casting its glow on his androgynously beautiful face, adding a touch of mystery and depth.
His gaze was as deep as ever, as if it could swallow all the light.
Because she suddenly stopped, the men also came to a halt, not understanding why she stopped abruptly and kept staring at Kian Sterling.
"Why is Luna looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
Kian Sterling chuckled softly, reaching up to feel his own face, finding nothing there.
