The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 379 - 295: Ambush
From a distance, Umbra crouched by the eastern city wall, studying the brick-laid structure, occasionally tapping it with his fingers, producing a dull sound.
Corvus stood nearby with his arms crossed, noticing the wary stares from The Wolf Tribe’s Beastmen, he couldn’t help but scoff lightly, "This Wolf Clan’s hospitality is quite unique."
His words were full of displeasure.
Umbra continued tapping the bricks without lifting his head, "Last time we sneaked in here, it’s understandable they’d be a bit on guard."
Though he looked down on such a small Lower Domain tribe like The Wolf Tribe, he had to admit their crafted bricks were quite commendable.
Perfectly square, with sufficient hardness, ideal for building walls and houses.
He wondered who developed these, as it seemed to be a rare talent.
Strix suddenly nudged Corvus’s arm, "They’re coming."
Corvus looked up and saw two figures approaching from afar.
The female on the left wore a simple beast-skin cloak, her black hair adorned with a plain wooden hairpin, her face as delicate as a lotus blossom, with skin like jade.
Her beautiful peach-blossom eyes were bright and moist, seemingly hooking onto whoever she stared at, making the viewer’s heart itch.
Her figure was graceful and elegant, walking like a fairy from a dream.
That night when they met, it was too dark to clearly see her features, only knowing she was incredibly beautiful.
Now in the daylight, it was clear what astonishing beauty meant.
No wonder she had captivated the Young Master for decades, driving him to madness; her appearance was indeed extraordinary.
Thinking of such beauty, cursed by the Lost Face Curse to live as a monster for over a decade, he suddenly felt Luna Sutton was quite pitiful.
But it was the original Luna Sutton who was pitiful, not this impostor in someone else’s body.
As Luna Sutton and Zeke Veridian approached, the three of them had already composed themselves.
Umbra stood up, brushed the dust off his hands, and took out a purple beast crystal, the size of a dove’s egg, from his coat.
In the sunlight, the crystal emitted a dreamy glow, causing even the air around it to ripple minutely.
"This is a top-grade beast crystal, one for five carts."
He tossed the crystal towards Zeke Veridian, "We want the finest bricks."
Zeke raised his hand, caught the crystal, and his emerald eyes glinted slightly, "The Dragon Clan is truly generous."
The energy contained within this crystal was beyond imagination, enough to help a Seventh Rank Beastman break through.
It was something highly suitable for Malachi Arcanus, whose strength had been stuck at the Seventh Rank Peak.
Feeling somewhat inferior, he often secretly practiced late into the night in the mountain canyons, returning quietly before dawn.
Zeke observed all this without saying anything, to avoid hurting Malachi’s self-esteem.
He discreetly handed the crystal to Luna Sutton.
She received the beast crystal, the warm touch tingling her fingertips, the purple glow swirling in her palm, tinting her eyelashes with a misty hue.
"Deal."
She stored the beast crystal in her system backpack, then turned to Umbra, "Transporting bricks requires wooden carts. Since this is our first trade, I’ll gift you five carts."
Because building houses often required moving bricks, the tribe naturally had wooden carts in abundance.
They were crafted later on.
Umbra, Strix, and Corvus had never heard of wooden carts.
Nor had they seen such things, but they instantly realized they were tools for transporting items.
Umbra raised an eyebrow, "Thanks a lot, then."
Luna Sutton gave Zeke Veridian a knowing glance.
Zeke, understanding, turned and headed towards the earthen kiln, partly to check if there were enough bricks, and if not, to expedite their production, and to arrange for the current bricks to be loaded onto carts.
After Zeke Veridian left.
Luna Sutton adjusted her cloak and casually asked, "Do The Dragon Clan need so many bricks to build a palace?"
Strix chuckled upon hearing this, his expression carrying a barely noticeable contempt, "The Dragon Clan uses white jade bricks and beast crystals for their palaces. These bricks are only fit for building animal pens."
"Building pens?"
She was momentarily stunned, realizing that what The Wolf Tribe used to build houses was, to The Dragon Clan, only fit for animal pens?
Suddenly, she felt a sense of insult and her heart was quite displeased.
She also somewhat regretted gifting them five carts; since they were so wealthy, she should have extorted more from them.
But on the surface, she only smiled more warmly, "The Dragon Clan is indeed wealthy, even using bricks for pens. I am truly ignorant."
Umbra keenly sensed the coldness in Luna Sutton’s smile and raised his hand to stop Strix from speaking further, "Since the deal is settled, we’ll come for the goods tomorrow."
He finished speaking and suddenly looked up towards the sky, his brow slightly furrowed.
In the distant clouds, something seemed to flash gold, so fast it seemed like an illusion.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at Luna Sutton, "Farewell."
With that, he took Strix and Corvus away, quickly disappearing into the dense forest without a trace.
Luna Sutton didn’t stay at the city gate for long either. As she was about to turn around and leave, a system alert suddenly sounded in her mind: "Host, Rhys Blackwood and Soren Phoenix have been ambushed by The Dragon Clan’s Black-armored Guard, you better hurry over and check."
"What’s going on here?"
Her expression instantly turned ugly, and she anxiously asked.
Weren’t Rhys Blackwood and Soren Phoenix supposed to be hiding somewhere to get through their mating period? How did they end up ambushed by The Dragon Clan?
The system, knowing the urgency of the situation, quickly replied, "Horace Valerius believes Mael Valerius’s memory loss was caused by your men plotting together, so he sent people to avenge his son. Not only have Rhys Blackwood and Soren Phoenix been ambushed, but even Malachi Arcanus while hunting has been attacked by the Black-armored Guard."
Upon hearing Malachi Arcanus had also been ambushed, her face turned even worse: "What’s the strength of the Black-armored Guard? How are they doing now? Where are they respectively?"
"The Black-armored Guard are The Dragon Clan’s elite and also Horace Valerius’s personal guards, each possessing Eighth-rank prowess."
The system spoke quickly, "Rhys Blackwood is fifty miles southwest of The Wolf Tribe at Hesperia, Soren Phoenix is in a valley to the east. Both have seen their strengths greatly reduced due to their mating period, each surrounded by six Black-armored Guards. Soren Phoenix is the Young Master of The Phoenix Clan, his situation is better; those Dragon Beasts don’t dare be too harsh on him. Rhys Blackwood isn’t so lucky; his scales are peeling off in inches, and even his serpent tail has been severed. Malachi Arcanus is even worse, being ground into the dirt by seven or eight Black-armored Guards. Not only have his limbs been broken, but his head was stomped into the mud, yet the stubborn fool refuses to beg for mercy, currently in the Northern Black Pine Forest."
Luna Sutton felt a surge of anger, her fingertips turning white as she clenched them.
She turned around and dashed into the tribe, running headlong into Corbin Crowley, who had just emerged from the smelting area.
Seeing her pale, unhappy face, he quickly supported her: "Be careful with your stomach. Did something happen?"
"Rhys Blackwood and Soren Phoenix were ambushed by Beastmen."
She took a couple of breaths, speaking quickly: "You immediately take Caelan Phoenix to Hesperia to save Rhys Blackwood, his condition is very bad; I heard even his serpent tail has been severed. Soren Phoenix is in the valley, his status is special and his injuries shouldn’t be too severe, let Zeke Veridian help him. No need to call over other Beastmen from the tribe, their strength is too weak, not even enough to be counted."
Corbin Crowley’s silver eyes turned cold: "Rhys Blackwood’s serpent tail was severed? Do we know who it is?"
Rhys Blackwood is an Eighth-rank Beastman, evolved into an Ancient Winged Serpent. Other than The Dragon Clan from Aetheria and The Aethel Serpent Clan, he couldn’t think of anyone else that could do it.
The Phoenix Clan is unlikely, as even Soren Phoenix himself has been ambushed.
"I don’t know much either, quickly take Caelan Phoenix and Zeke Veridian to rescue them."
Luna Sutton thought of something, and quickly added, "Also, be cautious yourselves, you all might be targets of those people."
Corbin Crowley immediately realized it’s likely The Dragon Clan, avenging Mael Valerius.
He agreed seriously, "Alright, I understand. You be careful too; I’ll bring them back and return immediately."
With that, he disappeared on the spot, evidently going to find Caelan Phoenix and Zeke Veridian.
She didn’t delay, directly grabbing Caleb Manning, who was working, "You go with Lian Phoenix to the Northern Black Pine Forest to rescue Malachi Arcanus, he’s being beaten by seven or eight Beastmen, heard even his limbs are broken, hurry up."
Caleb Manning’s face changed slightly, knowing the urgency, he didn’t ask further, and transformed into The White Tiger, immediately dashing off to find Lian Phoenix.
Zeke Veridian and Kian Sterling, upon hearing the news, each transformed into their true forms, speeding away from the tribe like arrows released from the string, rushing to Hesperia and the valley to rescue.
Luna Sutton immediately called Jago, disregarding Lyle Sutton and the witch doctor’s objections, she rode off, carried by Jago, who had transformed into a Spotted Leopard, heading directly to the nearest Northern Black Pine Forest.
Jago moved quickly, the wind howling at her ears as she sat on its back.
But in her current anxious state, she still felt it was slow.
"Faster!"
She gripped Jago’s mane tightly, urging it on.
Jago’s hind leg muscles tightened, leaping over a fallen deadwood: "Master, there’s a dragon’s cry in the wind."
She hadn’t yet figured out what was happening.
Suddenly, the sound of something breaking through the air came from afar.
Mael Valerius’s immense dragon body suddenly appeared, his dark golden dragon eyes sweeping over Jago, finally landing on Luna Sutton.
"Long time no see."
He slowly descended in front of her, turning into human form upon landing, his Dark Gold Beast Robe blowing wildly in the wind: "Little liar."
Luna Sutton froze; she hadn’t expected to meet Mael Valerius here, much less expect him to appear suddenly and call her "little liar."
Her mind raced with thoughts but she showed no expression.
"Move aside."
Her voice colder than the ice of the utmost north.
If not for the system telling her that the ambush on Rhys Blackwood, Soren Phoenix, and Malachi Arcanus was ordered by Horace Valerius, she might have suspected it was instigated by Mael Valerius.
But it makes no difference.
She refuses to believe Mael Valerius would be unaware when Horace Valerius gave the order.
Thinking about how he had already forgotten all memories of The Lower Domain, indifferent was quite normal.
But resentment in her heart was inevitable.
Yet Mael Valerius laughed, seeing her seated on Jago’s back: "Where are you heading?"
Her face turned even uglier, voice icy: "Going to collect the corpse of my stupid dog."
She deliberately emphasized "my" as she glanced over, catching his face suddenly darken and jaw clench, feeling an inner satisfaction.
