The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 337 - 271: By the Lakeside
"Shut up, you annoying phoenix!"
Malachi turned his head to glare at him, then looked at Luna Sutton pitifully, "It was supposed to be my turn tonight..."
Luna Sutton rubbed her temples, "I’m tired, I want to rest for a couple of days."
Lately, the nights have been too busy, constant indulgence leaves even the strongest exhausted.
It’s mainly because I’ve been too full; I’m a bit uninterested in it right now.
"What?"
Malachi’s voice suddenly rose, "Why do we take a break just when it’s my turn?"
He sounded a bit aggrieved as he spoke.
Corbin Crowley’s silver eyes swept over coldly, "When Luna says she’s tired, she’s tired."
Rhys Blackwood joined in expressionlessly, "Annoying."
Kian Sterling gracefully placed a piece of stewed lamb in Luna Sutton’s bowl and smiled gently, "Eat a little more, Luna, you’ve been working hard lately."
Zeke Veridian’s emerald eyes glanced at Malachi, "Keep complaining and you’ll lose your next turn."
Malachi instantly deflated, glaring viciously at Caleb Manning, then reluctantly sat across from him.
Caleb Manning lowered his eyes, looking at the rice in his bowl, each grain sparkling and plump, emitting a unique fragrance.
He had never seen such food; back in The Winged Tiger Tribe, Chloe Callahan mostly made various stir-fries and stews.
"This is rice."
Luna Sutton noticed his confusion and explained, "Before dehusking, it’s bird feed; after cooking, it becomes a staple."
Caleb picked up a chopstick’s worth and put it in his mouth, the soft and sweet taste spreading across his tongue, causing his eyes to widen slightly.
"Delicious?"
She rested her chin in her hand, watching him.
Caleb nodded, a touch of softness flickering in his golden eyes, "Very unique."
More unique than anything Chloe ever cooked.
Just as this thought emerged, he frowned to himself.
"If it’s unique, eat more."
Luna Sutton placed a piece of stewed lamb in his bowl, "It’s delicious with rice."
The gesture was nothing meaningful, just a casual act.
Corbin Crowley’s chopsticks gathered frost.
Rhys Blackwood shattered an entire ceramic bowl, silently going to get a new one.
Kian Sterling’s fox tail dangerously wrapped around Luna Sutton’s waist, with a hint of grievance and flattery.
Zeke Veridian lowered his eyes, his chopsticks ceaselessly poking the rice in his bowl.
Soren Phoenix suddenly leaned in, his peach blossom eyes blinking, "Luna, I want some too~"
Luna Sutton helplessly gave him a piece of meat, "Don’t you have hands?"
Soren Phoenix laughed charmingly, "Yes, I do, but I just want what Luna picks ~"
Mael Valerius’s dark golden eyes focused on Caleb, suddenly sneering, "Guardians must act like guardians. See Jago over there? You should learn from him."
He pointed at Jago, who was squatting in the corner eating rice.
He didn’t intend to say such harsh words, but couldn’t hold it back.
Jago was gobbling from his ceramic bowl and looked up bewildered, some rice stuck to his mouth.
Caleb’s golden eyes darkened slightly, putting down his bowl and chopsticks to stand up, "I was out of line."
Luna Sutton frowned, "Mael Valerius!"
Mael Valerius suddenly reached out to pull her into his embrace, his dark golden eyes raging with anger, "Luna, are you heartbroken?"
Corbin Crowley’s ice blade instantly pressed against Mael Valerius’s throat, "Let her go."
Soren Phoenix sprang up, hurriedly pulling his hand away, "Cousin, let’s talk this out calmly, don’t get worked up~"
Kian Sterling stepped in with a smile to smooth things over, "You’ve scared her."
Caleb stood silently retreating into the shadows, like a statue.
Rhys Blackwood cast a cold glance at him, "Unless Luna is in danger or calls for you, don’t appear casually, understand?"
Caleb’s golden eyes flickered, lowering them to hide all his emotions, whispering, "Understood."
He turned and melted into the night, disappearing without a trace.
Luna Sutton struggled free from Mael Valerius’s embrace, frowning at him, "What’s wrong with you?"
Mael Valerius’s dark golden eyes stuck to her with a hint of displeasure and grievance, "Why are you so nice to him, Luna?"
She rolled her eyes speechlessly, "Where am I nice to him? It’s just a meal, is it that serious?"
Corbin Crowley walked up next to her, his silver eyes coldly sweeping over Mael Valerius, "Luna treats everyone well, you’re not an exception."
But inwardly, he quietly applauded Mael Valerius’s behavior, even if Mael Valerius hadn’t said anything to chase him away, he would have struggled to restrain himself.
Just worried Luna would be upset, he forced himself to hold back.
Mael Valerius’s face sank slightly, knowing he played the fool and made Luna unhappy.
Realizing he lost his composure today, he should’ve waited and allowed the other Beast Husbands to act out.
Secretly regretting his impulsiveness, but seeing Luna being good to Caleb, he couldn’t control himself.
Especially Caleb’s similar experience, both were once kept as Luna’s pets for a period of time.
Just like how he was raised as the "Little Black Snake" when young.
After dinner, everyone went to rest.
Since the tribe is still under construction, currently the Beast Husbands are temporarily staying in Luna Sutton’s dwelling.
Luckily, the hut is spacious enough to accommodate more than a dozen people easily.
Luna lay on the soft beast skin, Corbin was sleeping on her left, and Rhys was sweetly asleep on her right, both men holding her on either side.
Kian Sterling, Zeke Veridian, Malachi Arcanus, Mael Valerius, and Soren Phoenix slept nearby.
She turned over, facing Rhys’s sleeping face, her fingers gently tracing his features.
Rhys suddenly opened his eyes, staring at her steadily, his voice deep and rich: "Can’t sleep?"
Luna jumped in surprise, not expecting him to be pretending to sleep.
She rolled her eyes, grumbling: "How could I sleep with you both holding me so tight on either side?"
Rhys chuckled lightly, disdainfully removing Corbin’s arm from Luna’s body, then turning over to hold her down beneath him, his dark eyes flashing dangerously in the pitch-black night: "Since you can’t sleep, why don’t we do something meaningful?"
Her cheeks instantly turned scarlet, and she glared at him playfully, lowering her voice: "Always taking advantage of me, but tonight isn’t your night."
Rhys laughed softly, his warm breath sprinkling on her neck, "Luna, you’re too tempting, I really can’t resist."
Whenever he saw her, he couldn’t help wanting to be close, wanting to completely possess her.
Yet she was not his alone, only getting his turn once a week, and God knows how torturous these days were.
Occasionally needing a break, even a whole week might pass without his turn.
She suddenly frowned, feeling as if her period had arrived, her expression changed slightly, and she hurriedly pushed Rhys away: "Let go, I need to go to the outhouse."
Quickly slipping on the beast skin skirt, she ran outside.
Rhys frowned, wanting to follow, but she glared at him to stop: "Don’t follow me."
The simple outhouse was built at the edge of the camp, and squatting inside, she frantically rummaged through her system backpack for sanitary pads.
In this damned beast world, there were no period supplies, every time she had to use the system’s stash secretly.
When this stuff runs out, it might be impossible to buy anywhere.
"System, Chloe Callahan’s rogue plugin has a system mall for exchanging items, why don’t you? Only allowing task completion for rewards?"
Luna asked inwardly, dissatisfied.
Unexpectedly, the system coldly replied: "This system is different from rogue plugins, focusing more on user experience and realism. Item exchange features disrupt game balance and are thus not available."
She sighed helplessly, realizing that she couldn’t change the system settings, dissatisfaction only leading to acceptance of reality.
After changing her pad, Luna exited the outhouse, feeling refreshed.
She planned to wash her hands by the lakeside while enjoying the nighttime scenery.
Moonlight spilled onto the lake surface, shimmering and beautiful beyond compare.
She walked to the lake, just about to bend down to wash her hands, when she suddenly heard a splash.
She looked curiously and saw Caleb bathing in the lake.
In the moonlight, Caleb’s toned body was faintly visible in the lake, water droplets rolling down his distinctly muscled chest, into the lines of his abdomen, finally merging into the water.
Under the moonlight, it was extremely alluring, like a beautiful man emerging from a bath.
She was about to look away, but suddenly noticed the companion mark on Caleb’s chest had disappeared.
In the beast world, companion marks are contracts witnessed by The Beast God, disappearing only upon one’s death.
She had seen Caleb and Chloe Callahan’s companion mark, a small golden tiger appearing like a tattoo on Caleb’s chest.
But now, it was smooth as new, without any tiger mark.
"Who?"
Caleb suddenly turned his head, his golden eyes narrowing slightly in the darkness, his expression cautious.
Luna didn’t have time to hide and walked out with a stiff smile: "It’s me."
Caleb froze instantly.
The night breeze brought the sweet fragrance unique to females, mixed with a faint smell of blood, causing his muscles to tense up instantly.
This is... the scent of estrus!
His Adam’s apple bobbed, unconsciously stepping back half a step: "Why are you here?"
Luna pretended not to notice his discomfort, pointing to his chest: "Where is your companion mark?"
Caleb looked down at himself, also stunned.
He raised his hand to touch the spot where the mark used to be, frowning deeply: "I once reverted to a cub, lost all memory, so it’s like I lived anew, later my body was reshaped, the companion mark naturally disappeared..."
Before he could finish speaking, Rhys’s tall figure emerged from the moonlight.
Obviously, having waited too long for Luna to return, he came out looking for her.
Caleb noticed Rhys appearing, his golden eyes giving Luna a complicated glance: "You should go back."
Luna nodded, turning to leave, but heard a splashing noise behind her.
Turning around, she saw Caleb submerged himself entirely in the water, only leaving a furry head exposed.
She almost laughed aloud, this innocent demeanor hardly seemed like someone with a companion.
Rhys walked to Luna’s side, his gaze wandering over her before settling on the water where Caleb’s furry head remained still, apparently exerting extreme self-control.
Annoyance flickered in his eyes, but he quickly suppressed it, turning to Luna: "Wasn’t Luna going to the outhouse? Why did you come here?"
She shrugged, responding casually: "After the outhouse, I came to wash my hands and met him by chance."
Saying that, she pointed at Caleb in the water.
Rhys followed her finger, seeing Caleb’s furry head motionless in the water, evidently attempting to restrain himself.
A flash of displeasure crossed his eyes, but he quickly pressed it down, turning back to Luna: "Are you done washing? Time to go back."
Luna nodded and started walking back: "Let’s go back."
The two walked side by side in the night, Rhys suddenly speaking in a restrained, deep voice: "Your scent... in estrus?"
Luna’s face instantly flushed bright red, instinctively taking half a step back.
In the distant hut, six other keen-sense Beast Husbands still slumbered, but to return now?...
