The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 78: Clarify
The room was filled with whispers no one knew what was happening anymore.
"Did I hear it right?"
"How can Duke say that?"
"What is happening?"
Many whispers filled the room but no matter who it was, the question remained the same, Why would Duke Beaumont say something like that.
"I would like to clarify," Duke Christopher said as he smiled, His eyes were sharp as he took a deep breath, "Due to one of my soldiers, the Angevin’s Kingdom’s Princess was hurt. Although all he was trying to do was to save her, but sometimes injuries are unavoidable. I am not trying to defend my subordinate but I am just residing the truth and the truth is that we will take full responsibility,"
"Is Duke Beaumont trying to say that the temple cannot take care of some injury?" The Crown Prince asked. His eyes narrowed as he curled up his lips, "Aren’t you underestimating the Priest’s power? I think the best place for a Princess to stay will be the temple."
The Crown Prince Richard looked at the Priest who nodded his head before saying, "It is true that there is no other place as safe as this"
"But what if none of the doctors here can treat the Princess. Will the Emperor allow us to rectify our mistake," Duke Beaumont looked at the Emperor who was staring at him.
Duke Christopher knew that no matter what the Emperor could not refuse his words, especially when he was saying that it was his mistake and he wanted to rectify it.
"Are there any doctors more qualified than the ones in the temple?" Priest Erasmus asked. He did not want Duke Beaumont to take any of the Princesses.
Duke Christopher could not understand what was happening. He raised his eyebrows as if he was challenging the man, "We have doctor Raul at the mansion."
"The man can treat the Princess in the temple too." The Emperor said but soon he did not respond. He looked at his nephew’s eyes as he realized that no matter what his nephew would not listen to him.
’But what is wrong with him so suddenly? Why does he care? Is it really because of the guilt?’ The Emperor thought as he took a deep breath.
"If the Princesses’ health does not improve and the wound is not healed then Duke Beaumont can take her to his mansion but we need some guarantee from the Duke as well. The Duke should make sure that her injuries are treated before the next prophecy is given."
The Crown Prince and the Priest Erasmus’s eyes widened. They wanted to say something when they heard the Emperor continue while looking at them. "And the Priest should make sure that he treats the Princess with care so that she does not have to go to the Duke’s mansions and get treated by doctor Raul. We cannot let the Duke stay in grief and self-blame for long."
Priest Erasmus was silent. He knew why the Emperor was saying such words. Doctor Raul never agreed to stay at the temple and carry out the treatment. He was a special doctor who only served Duke Beaumont. So even if someone else wanted to get treated by him they had to get the permission of the duke and enter the mansion.
Duke Beaumont has arranged a small area in his mansion for doctor Raul’s treatment, or most probably experiments. Something that the temple was against.
"I understand," Priest Erasmus nodded his head as he looked at Duke Beaumont.
The murmur that was suppressed turned deadly as everyone started to talk. They could not understand what was happening. Why would the Duke want to be responsible? It was unlike him and that’s what made it far more interesting in the eyes of others.
Duke Beaumont smiled as he bowed in front of the Emperor before he walked into the seat. His eyes stayed on the Crown Prince as he observed him.
Crown Prince Richard had a smile on his face as if it did not affect him but in reality, he was trying hard to conceal his rage. His eyes would turn to the Duke after every few seconds.
"So I have called you here with regards to the prophecy," Priest Erasmus stood in front of everyone as he said. His white robe moved around as he looked at everyone with care as if he was observing them. "God had given us an indication that one of the Princesses among the many is the one we all were waiting for. The one who will marry the Crown Prince and become the Crown Princess."
Priest Erasmus smiled as he looked at Crown Prince Richard as he continued, "The God had told me in my dreams that the Princess is a beauty. Someone who will capture the hearts of many and the Crown Princess should make sure that he captures her heart first."
Crown Prince Richard nodded his head but he was confused. He could not understand Prince Erasmus’s words, Crown Prince Richard knew that he had to form a bond with the chosen one. He had to make her fall in love with him and the Crown Prince was confident that he would be able to do so. He knew that he would be able to overcome any challenges and come out of them. After all, he was known as the man who women cannot resist.
The Crown Prince looked at Duke Beaumont as his lips curled up into a smirk. The only man who could oppose him was the Grand Duke. the only man who had Royal Blood in him. The Crown Princess shook his head as he focused on the Priest.
"I will capture her heart. The Empire will be prosperous and blooming," Crown Prince Richard said as he could see many approval nods from the nobles. Crown Prince knew that even though there were some nobles who supported the Grand Duke, there were more who followed him.
Crown Prince Richard looked at Priest Erasmus as he asked, "But who might be the chosen one?"
