The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 68: War Crazy
Princess Eleanor did not reply to Lady Gisella’s words. She felt it was not necessary at this point. Who knows how things will turn out in the future.
Princess Eleanor has her own doubts regarding Lady Gisella. How could the lady that did not see eye to eye with her yesterday turn so lovely today? Princess Eleanor wanted information but she also wanted to guard herself.
"The culprit?" Princess Eleanor said in a small tone, "At this point, I think keeping the people safe was the priority. Even though Lady had said that the Roulux Empire was calling everyone because of the prophecy, but I think we all can agree that if anyone of the Kingdom refused to send their Princess, they were as good as dead. Not only the Princess who disobeyed the Empire’s order but the people too."
"It was never an order," Lady Gisella said subconsciously but her voice turned low. The confidence in her tone was lost as she looked blank.
"It was an order, wrapped in a request." Princess Eleanor smiled as she looked at Lady Gisella. "And you know it is the truth."
Lady Gisella looked outside the carriage. She did not want to have this discussion with Princess Eleanor, maybe because she knew that it was the truth. If anyone in the Kingdom refused to send the Princess to the Empire then there would be consequences.
Lady Gisella bit her lips. In all the years that she had stayed in the Roulux Empire and the power she had held, Lady Gisella had never felt so powerless. There was a sense of fear when she interacted with Princess Eleanor.
She did not know why, but Princess Eleanor had an aura around her. Even when she acted innocent, something about her did not let anyone undermine her.
LAdy Gisella saw a man on the horse as her breath hitched. The eyes looking at her were full of warning, even though he was wearing a mask, his eyes said it all. There was no need for Lady Gisella to know what Sir Kit was thinking. She did not need to know what expression he was having. Lady Gisella knew it all.
"But Princess you had asked Sir Kit to protect you even though you have an escort sent by the Angevin Kingdom."
Princess Eleanor laughed as if she had heard some funny news. Her eyes were sharp as she said playfully. "Yes, they had sent so many things to the knights. How many are there Lady Gisella? A few? Maybe ten or twenty or two? They had sent two knights who would return back when the royal ball happened. I am alone, her Lady and I need protection."
Lady Gisella knew that what Princess Eleanor was saying was true. It was evident that the Angevin Kingdom did not take Princess Eleanor seriously. They were happy to abandon her at any given point as if she was a spoiled onion that they wanted to get rid of. The thing that amused Lady Gisella was that the King and the Queen that were the Princess’s Uncle and Aunt were not even trying to hide their intentions.
Lady Gisella looked at Princess Eleanor. It was evident to her that the Princess knew what was going on. She was not that ignorant and after the real brief talk with the Princess, Lady Gisella also knew that Princess Eleanor knew what she beyond the remaining family was trying to do.
"The Princess is brave." Lady Gisella said in a low tone.
No matter how much Lady Gisella wanted to keep Sir Kit and Princess Eleanor apart she really admired her courage. It wasn’t hard to guess that her Uncle was responsible for what had happened to her parents but Princess Eleanor also managed to keep calm and smile in front of them. She behaved like an innocent cat, keeping her sharp claws hidden.
Princess Eleanor smiled. She never thought that Lady Gisella would say those words to her. "If Lady Gisella is done with questioning I would like to ask you a few things."
Princess Eleanor leaned forward as she saw outside. Her heart was beating fast as she saw Sir Kit on the horse, ’Wind,’ moving along with their carriage.
"Why did the Emperor ask the escorts to wear a mask?" Princess Eleanor tilted her head slightly. She wanted to see the man’s face but was not able to. The only things troubling her dreams were the sharp eyes hidden behind the mask.
"It doesn’t make any sense. When it is known that all the escorts belong to House Beaumont then why hide their identity?" Princess Eleanor asked in a dull tone. She moved her gaze away from the window, away from the man as she looked at Lady Gisella.
"The Emperor and the Grand Duke are not on good terms." Lady Gisella said. Her eyes were dull as if she was revealing a huge secret. Something she should not be saying, but Lady Gisella knew that the matter was not hidden. Almost everyone knew about it. Everyone including the other Kingdoms. "They both want the betterment of the Empire and the people but their ideas do not sit well with one another. But no one can deny the influence the Grand Duke has on the people and the Empire. They all trust him."
Princess Eleanor was silent as she listened carefully. The Grand Duke had a reputation that spread across the borders. He was a vicious man that had the power to overthrow the Empire. A cunning man who knew no bounds. A war crazy hero. But the Grand Duke did not want the throne, just like his father, he decided to serve the Empire and be loyal to it. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"And so the Emperor trusted him when it came to the safety of the Princesses. The troops of House Beaumont are responsible to keep the Princess’s safe." Lady Gisella said with a smile. "And looking at the situation it was the right decision. They managed to save you from the enemy."
"But what if they could not keep the promise? After all, I am alive but injured." Princess Eleanor leaned back as she asked the question.
