The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 254 - 250
"The man I fell in love with. Prince Chris..."
Thud!!!!
Before Princess Eleanor could finish her sentence, a loud sound was heard and everything turned quiet. The chosen one was on the ground and the crown she wore a few seconds ago rolled on the stairs.
There was silence. And before anyone could understand what was happening, another loud noise sent shivers running down their spines.
THUD!!!!
Everyone’s eyes moved to the Royal floor as they could see the knights and priests making their way down. Something had also happened at the place the Royals were sitting, but what? No one could understand at first, but then they heard Priest Erasmus’s words. "Bring the chief healers for Princess Eleanor and Prince Richard. This is an emergency!"
"Make way!" The loud voice of the Emperor made everyone shiver where they stood. They had never seen him so angry over something before. The knights were so frightened that they picked Crown Prince Richard up and moved towards the inner chamber.
Priest Erasmus looked down as he saw the floor being noisy. His eyes then turned towards Princess Eleanor who was also unconscious but steadily breathing. He knew that the situation would be chaotic and if Princess Eleanor was in danger, Grand Duke Christopher would not be happy with the situation and might even use all his power to destroy everything.
"Her breathing is normal. She will gain consciousness once she drinks the medicine. Trust the people you have in your life, Christopher. Raul is the one who taught the chief healer to make the medicine." Priest Erasmus said in a small tone as he saw him bending down to pick Princess Eleanor up.
"That had better be the case." Grand Duke Christopher said, lifting the Princess into his arms. His eyes were filled with a dangerous light as if he was ready to kill anyone who dared cross his path.
Priest Erasmus followed after Grand Duke Christopher as he smiled, "We still have things to take care of. At least, don’t interfere with her revenge. I will help her get her revenge so please help me get mine."
Grand Duke Christopher looked back at the High Priest for a split second only to see his eyes sparkling with hope. "Get that chief healer of yours to make the medicine now. I do not want to see her in pain and suffering any longer than necessary."
Priest Erasmus knew that he had found a way to get through the man. He knew that Grand Duke Christopher had acknowledged his words. "Will do."
—---
Priest Erasmus walked towards Crown Prince Richard as he saw the chief healer giving him the medicine.
"What are the symptoms?" Priest Erasmus asked as he looked at the bottle being given to the other healers who made Princess Eleanor drink the same medicine.
"It must be poisoning." the chief healer said, "The same one that Princess Eleanor had. But it looks like it was a stronger poison. Someone had injected Crown Prince Richard and Princess Eleanor with the poison."
"Who might it be?" The Empress cried her eyes out. It was her son who was lying on the ground. She had no way to explain her thoughts to anyone. If her only son died, what would be her position in the Empire? Will she be able to continue enjoying the life that she is having now?
"There is a slight difference in the poison. The Crown Prince’s lips had turned red. It must be something that he was drinking recently." The chief healer said as he walked towards Princess Eleanor and continued, "But Princess Eleanor did not drink it. I think more poison was injected into the Crown Prince’s body. Did he drink something before coming here?"
Commander Colt took a step forward. He knew what he was supposed to say. "Crown Prince Richard had a drink with Marquess Gio."
"WHAT WERE YOU DOING THEN? DID YOU NOT CHECK IF IT WAS POISONED?" The Emperor shouted for the first time. His words were filled with many emotions and uneasiness. He could not lose his son whom he had loved and cherished for such a long time. It did not matter to him if Prince Richard would be the one chosen by the Princess or not, he was ready to give a small portion of his Empire to him even if he was not.
Commander Colt looked at the knights who ran to get the wine that the two drank. They also found the glasses that were still on the table. "The Crown Prince had asked us not to enter the room. He had something serious to talk about with the Marquess."
The High Priest did not waste any time as he took a shining silver needle and touched it to the rim of the glass. There was no change in colour. But when he repeated it on the second glass, the silver needle darkened. "The poison was in the glass."
"ARREST MARQUESS GIO. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY SON, KILL HIS WHOLE FAMILY." At the angry words of the Emperor, the people around shivered. But soon a voice cut through the silence.
"The diamond on Princess Eleanor’s necklace is of a different color. It should belong to the Cenid Kingdom." Grand Duke Christopher said in a determined tone, "Investigate if there has been any link between Marquess Gio and the Cenid Kingdom."
"Why would Cenid King..." The High Priest said but he paused in between. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the sleeping face of Princess Eleanor. ’Maybe they wanted to take revenge on Princess Vida?’ he had quickly came to that conclusion.
Priest Erasmus did not say anything else but the meaning was clear. The Princess was poisoned because the Cenid Kingdom’s people thought that she took Princess Vida’s place. And they poisoned the Crown Prince because they thought he did not show support.
Soon an informant came running, "Marquess Gio and the Crown Prince of the Cenid Kingdom are distant relatives. Princess Vida had a good relationship with the daughter of Marquess Gio. After the incident, the Crown Prince of Cenid Kingdom had reached out to Marquess Gio multiple times."
Although it was not clearly said, the underlying meaning was coming across stronger. Marquess Gio and the people from the Cenid Kingdom were the culprits.
"Th....They...." the Emperor was boiling with rage. Soon he could not control his boiling anger as he felt a strong pain piercing into his heart. Anyone who saw the situation would think that the Emperor was having a heart attack and soon the doctors rushed to treat him. But it was not the end. The Empress had the same experience as she soon collapsed to the ground as well.
Grand Duke Christopher walked to the side as he said, "I will take care of the situation outside." He looked at Princess Eleanor whose fingers were now moving. He was sure that she would be awake soon. "Lady Gisella, take care of the Princess. We cannot lose her."
Lady Gisella nodded her head with a smile. She did not react a lot but soon she started running around to get medicines for the Princess. Grand Duke Christopher was happy with the change as he moved his gaze to the High Priest, "Please pray for them all. God will listen to Priest Erasmus."
Priest Erasmus nodded his head as he looked at the priest around him. "It’s time to ask God for forgiveness. The suffering of the Royal family is because of the evil forces and we have to ask for forgiveness for them."
At Priest Erasmus’ words, everyone nodded and made their way out, but the man stayed back, "All the healers should try their best to treat the Royal Family. It is something that we cannot avoid."
The healers all swallowed hard as they nodded their heads. The High Priest looked at Grand Duke Christopher one last time as he walked out. He knew that what he had been planning for so long was about to be achieved.
Priest Erasmus was happy that all of his planning did not go to waste and no one suspected him at all. He looked at Commander Colt as he smiled. It was all thanks to the people who were close to Grand Duke Christopher or maybe it was because the man still thinks of him as his brother as he does.
It was Commander Colt who was responsible for placing the cups on the table. Even though he did not stay for long, he still managed to poison the rim of the cup that was placed in front of Crown Prince Richard.
A letter was sent from the Grand Duke, impersonating Marquess Gio to the Cenid Kingdom and he did the same with Marquess Gio. The Marquess got a letter that said Cenid Kingdom’s Prince wanted to meet him. However, the time, date, and even the location differed. Although none of the two met each other, the letters could still be considered and used as proof.
As for the Emperor and Empress, he had made sure that the chairs they had sat on were poisoned. A layer of deadly poison was applied to the arm of the chair where it was clear that the Royal couple would touch. It was a poison he had developed over the years by means of the experiment that did not cause the skin to turn blue.
’They will not survive. None of them will.’ Priest Erasmus thought in satisfaction as his eyes glowed, ’Raul, I wish you were here. The plan worked beautifully. You blamed me for pushing people into danger to experiment with the drug. You even left the Temple and had a bad relationship with the High Priest but look how well it worked. I developed a poison that is undetected, and I will make sure that they will all suffer a death worse than they could have ever imagined.’
