The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 246 - 243
"Do we have to go?" Queen Macy asked in a dull tone. She was not happy with the way the situation was taking place.
It was not long before she got to know that Princess Eleanor was the chosen one. She would be sitting in the place of an Empress. It was an irritating feeling for her and she could not help but feel resentful. ’Why was it that Princess Eleanor would always get her way no matter what? She had enjoyed her youth as the only princess of the Angevin family and now she was going to be the Empress of the Empire. She will be sitting in the highest position.’
Queen Macy was not happy with the situation. Her eyes moved towards her husband who had a stiff face. She knew that Felix had explained to her again and again that there was nothing between him and the Princess but sometimes, she still had her doubts.
"It was an invitation from the Crown Prince." King Felix said as he sighed. He really did not want to bring his wife there but when she heard that he was going to the Roulux Empire, she said in front of the nobles that she misses her sister and wants to meet her.
Although King Felix knew that it was not the truth, he still could not say anything when his wife started saying that her sister was the only family left and she wanted to congratulate her.
"And we still cannot go against it.." Queen Macy murmured. The irritation was evident on her face as she looked out of the window. "Will she be more powerful than us?"
"Macy." King Felix looked at his wife, "The rules of the Empire are different from that of the Kingdom. The rulers are decided by God and no one is allowed to interfere."
"So God chose her?"
"Yes" King Felix said but before he could continue, he felt a rumbling of the carriage as he saw the carriage stop.
"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!!!" A shout was heard from the Knights and they could hear the swords clashing. The screams could be heard clearly and they were sure that people were dying.
"You stay here." King Felix said as he saw the shivering face of his wife.
The fear in Queen Macy’s eyes was evident. She was afraid that something might happen to her, but mostly she was frightened that something might happen to her husband whom she loves so much.
"No.... Let’s just stay here. The knights will handle it.." Queen Macy did not help but think about the situation that she was getting herself into. Her uncle and aunt died when they were attacked in the carriage. Her father and brother died when they were on the road as well. Was history going to repeat itself? Will she or her husband die in the same way?
Thinking about such things was making Queen Macy uneasy in her heart. She had a lot of things to say and do and yet she did not know how to express them. She wanted to disappear from the carriage.
"I cannot leave the people alone, Macy. My job is to keep you safe. So let me do it." King Felix said those words as she took a deep breath and removed his wife’s hand from his and walked out of the carriage.
The first thing that he saw was the dead bodies of the people around him. The scene was horrible with blood splattered around. King Felix looked around at the sudden quiet atmosphere. He saw that smile on the knight’s face. They were all wearing masks and there were no identification marks on them.
"Who sent you?" King Felix asked suspiciously as he removed his sword from its sheath. His eyes stayed on the leader who took a step towards him. The man’s sword was dripping with blood as he lifted and pointed it toward King Felix.
"Do you even know what you are doing?" King Felix asked in a low tone. The rage was beyond his control as he shouted, "HOW DARE YOU STOP A KING’S CARRIAGE? WHO ARE YOU?"
"The same one that attacked the royal family of the Angevin Kingdom under your orders." The man’s voice was small but there was slight confidence in it. He narrowed his eyes as he laughed dramatically, "And stopping a King’s carriage to kill them is nothing new to us. You, of all people should know it well."
King Felix was shocked. His eyes widened but before he could figure out what was happening, the man rushed towards him with the sword. King Felix’s reflexes were strong as he blocked the sword. The fight between the two was getting heated. One attacked while the other defended. But King Felix did not see that none of the other people participated in their battle.
The people walked to the side as they entered the carriage, pulling Princess Macy out. "FELIX!!! FELIX!!"
The loud shouts from Macy interrupted King Felix’s concentration as he missed defending himself. The sword swung right towards him as it pierced his stomach.
"AHHH!!!!" King Felix shouted as his hand held onto his stomach. He could feel that the man was not aiming to kill him. But if so, then what was happening?
Queen Macy struggled to rush over to her wounded husband. She wanted to shout but the man’s hand that was holding her, closed her mouth forcefully, making her unable to say anything. Her tears were falling down as she tried to move her body but to no avail.
"So this is the King that wanted to aim for the throne, but could not defend himself?" The man walked towards King Felix as he bowed, "A weak man like you is not suitable to be the King."
King Felix’s reflexes were quick as he pulled the man down and turned around, putting his sword on the neck of their leader.
The pain from the attack was still burning, but his heart was filled with rage. How could anyone say that he was not fit to be a King? He was in no position to accept this.
"This is why I am the King." King Felix said as he looked around. He thought the people would spend their swords toward him at this point but no one moved as if it was all under their expectation.
King Felix’s eyes twitched as he saw some men dragging Queen Macy towards him. "Leave our leader. Otherwise we will kill your Queen."
King Felix was silent as he looked into his wife’s eyes. The fear was evident in her eyes. The sword was placed on her neck just as King Felix had put the sword on the man.
Queen Macy wanted to shout. She wanted to make Felix see that she was in pain. Her arms were bruised and in pain. The hold of the man was stronger and she was losing her breath. But to her surprise, the man who claimed to love her was not even looking worried for her safety.
"Do you really think that he will care for your sister?" A small soft voice asked and soon the surroundings became quiet. The people who were simply surrounding them came forward while the man who was under King Felix’s sword, pushed him back forcefully, saving his life.
King Felix fell to the ground but was soon captured. His sword was taken away from him and he looked beaten up.
Queen Macy could not feel anything. Her body had become numb. She knew this voice too well. But did her brother not die? Did the people not search for him? But.... ’No, it was Felix who said that Arlo had died...’
The realization brought shock to Queen Macy. Her body shivered as she looked at Felix who did not even look at her to see if she was okay. She could understand that the man did not react when the sword was on her neck. She thought that he was so shocked that he was panicking, but now? What was stopping him now? Why was King Felix not even looking at his wife to see if she was okay?
"Do you think a man who killed his best friend, killed his in-laws and even tried multiple times to kill me would care about you? A person he does not even love?" Prince Arlo walked towards them from the side.
"You can walk?" King Felix asked in a confused voice. He was sure that he had received a letter stating that Prince Arlo was dead. Then why was he alive now? Not only was he alive, but he was also walking.
"Of course." Prince Arlo walked towards King Felix with an innocent smile on his face, "Did you still think that I will not be able to walk? Oh, you will, wouldn’t you? After all, you were the one who poisoned me and made me like this."
King Felix shook and looked straight at the young Prince. He struggled to be released so that he would be able to strangle Prince Arlo with his own two hands.
"What if you survived? You can die now and no one will ever know!" King Felix said as darkness shone from his eyes. "It is never too late."
"But it is now."
