Kelly did not know what happened after she attacked Princess Eleanor. There was blood all over as a loud scream pierced through the silence of the early morning. No one knew who was the one who screamed. Princess Eleanor or Princess Vida.
Kelly looked at her master, but what she saw was not the happy face that she had expected to witness, but the frightened face of Princess Vida. Her eyes widened in shock as she bit on her lips nervously. Princess Eleanor was lying on the floor with a deep wound on her shoulders. The blood did not stop as it oozed out.
Soon the soldiers came rushing in as they all noticed Princess Eleanor who was lying on the ground in an ever widening pool of blood. Some of them looked at her as her body was trembling but Kelly could still hear Princess Vida say in a shocked tone.
"She did it..."
"Why would she do something like that?"
"What is happening..."
The soldiers rushed about as they took care of Princess Eleanor, shifting her onto the bed so she would be on a more comfortable surface. There was a slight panic as the room was filled with chaos. Kelly could not understand anything else as her head was spinning a lot. There was a buzzing sound in her mind making it unable for her to concentrate.
Kelly closed her eyes but soon she felt her arms being grabbed by a strong force. Before she could look up, she heard Priest Erasmus’s voice in her ears, "Do not do something you will regret."
Kelly considered the priest’s advice. The Princess she had dedicated so much time and money on was now nowhere to be seen. Instead, the blame was squarely dumped on her shoulders. Kelly could not help herself as tears started to flow down her cheeks. The only thing that was left was regret.
—--
The room door opened as the smell of medicine penetrated Grand Duke Christopher’s nose. His heart was beating faster as he tried to understand the situation that Princess Eleanor was in. He did not want to come to a conclusion prematurely, but there was fear in his heart. He was afraid of losing her.
Grand Duke Christopher walked towards the bed and he saw a deep wound on Princess Eleanor’s shoulders. She was on the bed with her eyes closed as the healers surrounded her. Her face was extremely pale and her form still and unmoving.
"She is no longer in mortal danger anymore, but the blood loss was too much for her to handle." Priest Erasmus said as he looked at Grand Duke Christopher before he continued, "She is just unconscious and will need time to recover her energy."
Priest Erasmus looked at Grand Duke Christopher who stood there in a daze. His eyes did not leave Princess Eleanor even for a second.
"Who did it?" Grand Duke Christopher asked as his eyes moved towards Priest Erasmus. His tone was dangerously low, as if he was ready to kill the person.
"Kelly..." Priest Erasmus said but soon his eyes moved behind Grand Duke Christopher as he saw Prince Richard and the Emperor entering the room. "She is Princess Vida’s lady-in-waiting."
"Princess Vida?" Grand Duke Christopher raised his eyebrows as he asked. He did not know who this Princess Vida was.
"She is from the Cenid Kingdom." Crown Prince Richard said as he walked towards Princess Eleanor’s side ignoring the Grand Duke.
"Princess Vida says she doesn’t know why her lady-in-waiting attacked the Princess." Priest Erasmus said in a small tone. There was a slight tension in his throat as he made sure that he indicated for the Grand Duke to meet him outside.
Grand Duke Christopher nodded his head as he saw Priest Erasmus bowing to the Emperor and walking out naturally. He knew that things were not as simple as they looked on the surface. He took one last look at Princess Eleanor’s wound that was being wrapped up by the healers.
Crown Prince Richard sat beside Princess Eleanor as he looked at her with a smile. There was nervousness in his tone as he said, "I will not let the people who did this to you go."
The Emperor looked at both of his sons as he took a deep breath and said to the chief healer, "Let me know once she opens her eyes."
Grand Duke Christopher saw the Emperor walk out as he followed the man. He did not go far but walked towards the door and stood there in a daze.
Once he saw that there was no one in the corridor any longer, he walked to the side only to see Priest Erasmus standing there. "You wanted to meet me alone?"
Priest Erasmus nodded his head as he sighed deeply. "This was embedded in her shoulder." Priest Erasmus removed a large piece of glass from his robe that was wrapped in a piece of cloth and he presented it to Grand Duke Christopher. "She was in pain when the chief healer tried to remove it from her shoulders. Although it was not a fatal attack, it is clear that it was meant to kill her. Maybe Kelly was afraid or she did not understand when she was attacking, but if it had missed the place and penetrated a little further down, it would have been fatal and nothing could be done for her."
Grand Duke Christopher nodded his head as he took the glass from Priest Erasmus’ hand. It was a large piece but he was confident in holding it in his hand. Anyone could understand that it was meant to kill someone.
Grand Duke Christopher examined the glass as he saw the dried blood stains. From the stain of the blood, it was clear that a large section of it had been embedded into Princess Eleanor’s body.
"Where is she?"
"Kelly is in prison while Princess Vida is in her room. Right corner." Priest Erasmus said. He knew that Grand Duke Christopher also knew that it was not as simple as a mere lady-in-waiting’s plan. She simply had no strong enough motive to do this. Although Princess Vida was now claiming that she had no idea that Kelly would do something like this, the reality was in fact far from what she claims. She had to know what her lady-in-waiting would do. Someone that was so close to her, planning to kill Princess Eleanor could not have done it so silently without the master’s knowledge.
"I understand," Grand Duke Christopher’s hold on the piece of glass tightened as he narrowed his gaze. "You take care of her and make sure that Prince Richard keeps his distance."
Grand Duke Christopher did not wait any longer as he turned around and shook his head. "I might be a little late." Grand Duke Christopher made his way towards the prison to meet the one who had managed to injure his love.
—-
There was darkness surrounding her as Kelly tried to take deep breaths, wanting to calm herself down. She was feeling suffocated as she could not see even a single ray of light. No one had told her that the prisoners were kept in such dismal conditions. But it was a little odd. Apart from her, there was no one else in the cells around hers.
"Where am I?" Kelly asked in a dull tone as she looked around, trying to refocus her eyes. Soon Kelly could hear someone walking. The darkness was making it harder for her to clearly determine the identity of the person, but she could still tell that the person was walking towards her from a distance.
"Is someone here?" Kelly said in a small voice, "At least, light a candle here. I cannot see anything."
"That is the whole point." Kelly’s body shivered when she heard a deep voice, hard and sharp as flint. It was not a guard, knight, or soldier. The aura was too strong for it to be a mere knight.
"W-who... who are you?" Kelly’s tone was filled with fright. She was afraid and even if she did not want to show it in her tone, she could not hide it completely. As she could hear the man walking towards her, she subconsciously took a few steps back.
"Why should I tell you?" Grand Duke Christopher responded in a dull voice as if his motivation was destroyed. He did not waste any time as he walked towards where Kelly was. Maybe it was because he had long since gotten used to the darkness that he could see the slight silhouette of Kelly in her cell. The war had made his eyes sharper than usual and he shook his head in annoyance.
"Oh, maybe because you feel like you can do anything and get free? But some mistakes can never be forgiven and forgotten, don’t you know that?" Grand Duke Christopher’s lips curled up as he shook his head before he raised his hand and pierced the glass straight into Kelly’s shoulders. It was at the exact same spot where Princess Eleanor was wounded. But unlike her, he removed the piece of glass sharply.
"AAHHHH!!" Kelly screamed at the top of her voice. There were tears in her eyes and they started to flow down her cheeks. She could not do anything as she struggled to breathe before her body collapsed.
Kelly’s hand was on her wounds but the hot liquid was making her realize how much blood was flowing out. "Why.... Why would you do something like this to me... Why...?"
Kelly managed to ask. There was a slight tremble in her voice and even though she knew the answer to it, she could not help herself from asking anyway.
There was Princess Vida who said that no matter what, she will not let anything happen to her. Why was she not there to protect her? Where was she now when she needed her the most?
Kelly was deep in thought before the pain came back again in waves and she soon realized that she had been pierced by the piece of glass yet again. This time, the wound was aimed on her other shoulder.
"Did you really think you will be left unharmed? That you can just harm others and walk away scot free? I would make sure to send double the pain your way." Grand Duke Christopher said as his eyes narrowed. The hate was burning in his eyes as he walked out to his next destination, not caring the least as he left the heavily bleeding Kelly on the ground.
