The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 219 - 217
Princess Eleanor walked towards the throne room.
Her mind went back to the time when she was about to enter the Royal palace to meet her Uncle. Her heart was dead, but now, the feeling was different even though the scenarios were similar.
"Princess." The Crown Prince smiled as he looked at her. His eyes looked straight into hers as he said. "The Princess should not be worried. They are all here to look at you. Even nobles and other princesses want to make sure that you are safe." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Princess Eleanor wanted to curse but she kept silent. Her eyes focused on the man who looked at her with demand in his eyes. The meaning was clear. He wanted her to go with the flow and not question anyone or anything.
Princess Eleanor nodded her head as she stood behind the closed door. Her eyes moved toward it and soon the announcement was made and the door slowly opened.
Princess Eleanor’s heart was beating faster as she saw the light coming from inside before the door fully opened and a spectacle of people graced her vision. Princess Eleanor swallowed as her eyes looked around in surprise.
"Princess..." It was Lady Gisella’s voice that brought her back to reality. She looked at Lady Gisella who stood a step behind her as she raised her eyebrows, indicating that she should move.
Princess Eleanor looked at the Crown Prince who had walked towards the throne naturally as if it was where he belonged.
’I thought he was going to be there to support me?’ Princess Eleanor thought, ’Maybe I was overthinking.’
Princess Eleanor sighed as she walked towards the throne as she stood a significant distance away. Princess Eleanor bowed as she showed her respect to the Emperor and Empress. "Long live the Emperor and Empress."
Princess Eleanor said in a dull tone. She knew that she had to portray the character of a sick girl up till the end. Her eyes looked up at the Emperor who nodded his head as she stood straight in front of the man who had the greatest power in the lands.
"I heard you are feeling better? Was I given the wrong information?" The Emperor asked as he looked at Lady Gisella who stood at the back. His eyes were not looking straight at the Princess but demanded an answer from Lady Gisella.
"No." Lady Gisella said respectfully as she kept her gaze down to the floor. "I know that the Princess sounds and looks a little sick, but that is because she is exhausted by the trip here. Although the Princess has overcome her illness, there is still some lingering pain remaining and it will only go away with time. Doctor Raul and the High Priest, both have verified that Princess Eleanor is no longer suffering from the poison and is in the best condition as she currently could be in right now."
The Emperor nodded his head as his eyes moved towards Princess Eleanor. "Is the Princess feeling better?"
Princess Eleanor swallowed as she nodded her head. "I am, thank you for asking. But I am a little afraid." Princess Eleanor’s tone was low as if she had suffered a lot and the fear was deeply rooted in her.
"And why might that be?" The Emperor asked. His tone was full of interest as he looked forward to the Princess’s reaction.
Princess Eleanor looked at the Crown Prince, whose face showed his unhappiness. He was not impressed by the fact that Princess Eleanor was making her own choices. After all, he had specifically asked her to obey his command. All she needed to do was greet the Emperor and see her happy to finally be at the Royal Palace and everything else would have been handled by him and yet here she was saying things she was not supposed to say.
Princess Eleanor did not pay any attention to the people around her. Her eyes moved to Princess Vida who was biting her lips. Although it was subconscious, Princess Eleanor understood the hidden meaning behind it all. Princess Viada was not happy with the situation.
"I heard that many Princesses have suffered from an unknown disease. Although they have been treated, the fear embedded in my heart is suffocating. I am afraid that maybe I will be infected by it too." The Princess said in a small tone. Anyone who could hear it will be able to tell that Princess Eleanor was really afraid.
The Emperor did not find anything unusual in it as he nodded his head in understanding, but it was the Empress who was always quiet who spoke up this time. "Is the Princess afraid at the Royal Palace? Are you doubting that someone is deliberately making people fall sick?"
Princess Eleanor’s eyes turned sharp but she soon covered up her emotions as she said, "It is not that.... Empress, I am sorry if I have portrayed myself as a person who does not trust the people of the Royal Palace, but...." Princess Eleanor bit her lips as if she was being wronged, "I am a little afraid, nothing else. After all, someone had deliberately poisoned me on my way to the Empire. It was not only me who was attacked but also Princess Vida. Who knows if they are the rivals of the Emperor and trying to kill all the Princesses present here? Maybe I am overthinking, but I just cannot help it."
Princess Eleanor bowed her head as she continued, "I am not doubting anyone from the palace. I am just afraid that maybe that person will try to attack the Emperor and Empress as well. I am simply worried. I think Princess Vida will also agree with me. After all, we both have gone through similar experiences."
Princess Vida who was sitting without a care was shocked when her name was suddenly being dragged into the conversation, as everyone present in the room looked at her. As if her words would hold the most weight now.
Princess Vida looked at Princess Eleanor with narrowed eyes as if trying to understand if she was playing around with the words or if it was her genuine opinion. But no matter how much she tried, Princess Vida could not see any deliberate attempt in her eyes.
Princess Vida sighed as she nodded her head. "I feel the same way, Your Majesties." She said as she bowed before them. "It is true that we both had gone through a similar experience but it was unfortunate that Princess Eleanor was poisoned. I had also suffered from allergies and some rashes here and there, and I thought that maybe someone is deliberately trying to mess with the Princesses. I can understand why Princess Eleanor is afraid. After all, she had just fought an unknown poison. Her body is still weak."
The Empress looked at Princess Vida as she nodded her head. Her eyes moved towards Lady Gisella who was silent the whole time as if the topic had nothing to do with her and her existence is useless.
"The Princess should rest now." The Empress said as she looked at Lady Gisella directly. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to understand the reason why the old lady was there.
Princess Eleanor could sense that the Empress was looking at Lady Gisella and not herself but she did not mind at all. She bowed her head with a smile but soon the Emperor’s words made her stop midstep.
"Priest Erasmus will be announcing the prophecy tomorrow evening. A ball will be held and we will be getting our Crown Prince and Princess." The Emperor’s tone was filled with authority as he looked at everyone in the room. "I would like everyone present today to be the witness for tomorrow’s event as well. We will be getting the chosen one by god soon."
The roars in the room were loud and everyone was happy. Princess Eleanor looked at the Crown Prince who nodded his head at her, indicating that everything was already arranged.
Princess Eleanor sighed as she turned around but soon her eyes met Princess Vida, whose gaze was filled with questions.
"Princess." Princess Eleanor greeted her with a smile. All she could see was a slight nod from Princess Vida indicating that she had acknowledged her presence.
Princess Eleanor did not mind as she walked out of the room with Lady Gisella trailing always a step behind her.
"She doesn’t like you." Lady Gisella made that statement when they were on their way to her assigned palace.
"She does not have to. As you had rightly pointed out a few days back. We are rivals." Princess Eleanor said as she thought back at Princess Vida’s eyes that were filled with rage. "Maybe I was too blind to not see it at first, but now I know what I am fighting against."
"She will send someone today." Lady Gisella said in a small but confident tone. "It looks like Princess Vida has caught on to the small interactions between you and the Crown Prince."
"It is not only her who has observed it." Princess Eleanor sighed as she looked off into the distance. She could already see her Palace, but there was no happiness in her gaze. She missed the Beaumont mansion. She missed the people there. "All the other Princesses observed it too."
