The Void's System-Chapter 112: The Dire Hound Chimera
Chapter 112 - The Dire Hound Chimera
The damp air of the dungeon was laced with an eerie hum, the kind that made your skin crawl. Zane and Valerie moved in sync, stepping carefully along the cracked stone path lit only by flickering crystals embedded in the walls. Shadows danced, and Nyx's voice echoed in Zane's head like a low whisper.
"This place reeks of death... and secrets."
Zane didn't respond. He could feel it too. Something was off.
Valerie broke the silence, twirling a silver dagger laced with spatial energy. "So, what's your kill count?"
"Seven," Zane replied, effortlessly decapitating a lunging wolf-like creature with a strike of his Endblade. "You?"
"Nine," she said with a wink. "You're falling behind."
Zane rolled his eyes, not realizing the smirk on his face had caused Valerie to blush slightly. But the moment was short-lived.
A pulse rippled through the air. The dungeon walls began to vibrate.
"Something's coming," Nyx warned.
They turned a corner and stepped into a massive chamber. Bones littered the ground. In the center, a hulking beast sat chained to a pillar — three heads, six eyes glowing blood-red, and venom dripping from its fangs.

"Looks like we found the jackpot," Zane muttered, tightening his grip.
Without warning, the beast lunged, snapping the last of its restraints.
Zane dashed in, slashing at its front leg, but the creature was too fast. It flung him against the wall. Valerie's eyes glowed violet as portals began to swirl around her.
"Try not to die, hero boy," she whispered, then launched a barrage of spatial blades that blinked into existence midair, slicing into the beast.
Zane got up, blood trailing from his lip. "You done flirting with space yet?"
"Hardly," she said, grinning.
They moved together. Zane's Endblade shimmered with Void energy, Valerie warping them inches ahead of every crushing blow. But the Chimera struck harder now—Zane was thrown back again, and this time Valerie was knocked to the ground.
The beast lunged at her.
Zane's body moved before his mind caught up. In a flash, he was in front of her, his blade cleaving upward in a violent arc, splitting one of the heads clean off.
The Chimera screeched and reeled back. Valerie coughed, eyes wide.
"You idiot... why'd you jump in like that?"
Zane smirked, wincing in pain. "You'd owe me... again."
"Arrogant," she whispered, before slicing open a final portal beneath the beast. It dropped into her trap—a compressed space trap that severed it clean through.
The fight was over.
Valerie helped Zane up, brushing dust from his shoulder. "Not bad."
"You either," Zane replied, genuinely impressed.
And yet, Nyx's voice came again—teasing and amused.
"Ahhh, nothing says bonding like mutual near-death and accidental hand touches. I give it a 7 out of 10 romance score."
Zane sighed and sheathed his blade. "Let's just find the next room."
As they walked deeper, Zane didn't notice Valerie sneaking one more look his way... a look that burned with something more than victory.
