Chapter 436: Crown Prince Aurelius of Heliosa

The soldiers were under strict instructions to search and inspect everyone who came to Emberlynx today. If they were using magic to alter their appearance, or at the slightest indication, they should be taken into custody.

Abrielle was worried for Cedric knowing he would not want to remove his scarf in such an open place. It wasn’t because he feared he would be recognised. That wasn’t the case, the last time Cedric’s face was seen in public was 11 years ago. It was because he would draw too much unwanted attention. Cedric’s advantage lies in the anonymity of his true identity.

The soldiers sensed her resistance and were ready to take her away at any point.

Cedric stepped up and spoke. "My wife is nervous. We will prefer a private inspection." He spoke out. The soldier was insistent, seeing no reason they needed a private inspection.

"You will have to take them off here. Those are my orders. " He insisted. He saw no need for common merchants to need any special attention.

They were dressed like southern merchants, their clothes Simple and minimalist but their presence spoke otherwise. It felt suspicious and out of place.

Cedric’s hold tightened. "I am sorry we can’t." He wasn’t going to take off his scarf in a public place. This blatant non-conformity was not accepted. Cedric’s Heliosian accent was perfect, giving out no clue he was a foreigner.

Still, the soldier couldn’t help but sense something was off. Not that Cedric even bothered hiding it. He unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Cedric. Gasps rang at the development of things.

Elias, who was not far away in the queue, saw this and was worried. He wasn’t sure how bad Cedric’s condition was, but he was certain Cedric wasn’t in a state to fight.

Cedric was looking at the soldier with a bored, unimpressed gaze. He shielded Abrielle behind him to protect her from any sudden violence.

"If you are resisting order, I have no choice but to force you." The soldier threatened, yet the man before him wasn’t shaken in any way. His grip tightened against his sword and his teeth were gritting.

"I am not resisting order but making a simple request." Cedric insisted, refusing to back down. This exchange drew attention without a doubt. Another soldier who looked like a high knight under the royal family intervened.

"Stand down." He instructed, placing his hand on the soldier’s shoulder. The soldier was hesitant to obey but had to listen to his superior.

He sheathed his sword and backed away. The knight’s eyes were on Cedric and Abrielle. His face was blank with no expression.

"These ones won’t agree to a public inspection." He muttered, recognising the subtle air of superiority. You can dress people however you want but it was difficult to change the aura around them

"Please this way, I will take you for a private inspection." He beckoned them with a polite smile. He was acting a bit too polite to merchants. Cedric nodded and let the knight lead them pulling Abrielle along the way.

They were allowed through the gates into the other side. The road was very busy, with several wagons, carriages and horses. Abrielle’s palm was sweaty, and she was nervous, but she decided to trust Cedric. He didn’t look scared about where they were taking them.

He was confident as ever, a stark difference from the man who cried before her because of his fears. They arrived at a port building close to the gates. "This way." The knights mentioned leading them inside.

They got into the building and eventually arrived at another door that led to a room. The door was pushed open for them, Cedric stepped in with Abrielle before the knight followed closing the door behind them.

Inside the room that looked like a private lounge area, there was a man who stood out, dressed rather expensively and leisurely enjoying a glass of wine while listening to the report of another soldier.

"We have some anomalies from the queue, your highness " the knight announced. The man who apparently was a Heliosian prince’s attention was finally drawn to them. Abrielle’s assumption was that he was the one behind the extra search.

He smiled, seeing Abrielle and Cedric, "So they want a private inspection." He chimed, his eyes studying Abrielle and Cedric.

"You can pull off the scarf now." He instructed, Abrielle was about to but Cedric stopped her. This gesture caught everyone’s attention, and it amused the prince. He chuckled...

"Fine, I understand," he mentioned, then signalled the knights to give them the room. The knights were hesitant about the order. They didn’t trust the stranger but they listened.

The door slammed shut and there were just 3 people left in the room. "The scarves, or do you want me to personally take them off?"

Abrielle’s eyes met with Cedric, and he nodded approvingly for her to pull off her scarf. She unveiled her face first before Cedric followed. She was not expecting him to follow through. She guessed this was what he wanted.

The prince’s expression didn’t change much, just a subtle hint of surprise and amusement. He laughed a bit.

Abrielle kept quiet observing the situation. She recognised the ’ prince ’, but she never expected they were going to meet again like this. She never thought he was a Heliosian prince.

He was the stranger who helped her the time Callista and she got attacked during Eleanor’s birthday. The same stranger who was lurking around on Vitalis and left the city after Ivana’s assassination.

"I don’t know what to say. It was definitely not what I expected." The prince chimed in. Cedric scoffed at him ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"I guess you were expecting a face thoroughly disfigured and covered with unbearable scars." Cedric taunted, his tone was a bit casual yet had a hint of displeasure in it.

"What do you expect me to think when you always had a mask on, Cedric? I have been expecting you, dear first prince of Dacronia or should I say exiled prince." The Heliosian prince sneered. Abrielle’s eyes darted between them

The prince knew it was Cedric from the start. "I didn’t expect anything less from the tricky crown prince of Heliosa. I heard you were searching for me in Vitalis, Crown Prince Aurelius Caelphyr." Cedric stated, and Prince Aurelius smiled, his Sapphire blue eyes sparkled with mischief hidden by some stray strands of hair, gold like ginger hair that looked like the evening glow of the sun.
