Chapter 104 – She didn’t have the confidence to be responsible for a little life (1)

Ruan Xia froze in surprise when she heard those words. She quickly recovered and figured out what Little Wang meant. With the exception of a small minority that had a high pain tolerance, most women would experience extreme pain when giving birth. On a scale of 1 to 10 in pain, childbirth was supposed to be rated 10.

Although she hadn’t experienced it herself, she knew that it would hurt a lot even if she used her toes instead of her brain to think. In modern-day, there was a more “relaxed” option of getting a c-section, but even so, it would only decrease the pain at the time. Later on, it would still hurt for a long time as your flesh healed.

The original owner could be considered lucky. Her belly was still fair-skinned and stretch-mark free. It was even flat instead of the usual post-pregnancy protruding belly. Her body didn’t show any traces of having given birth.

Most women had to live with the damages left behind by giving birth. One of the most terrifying things was getting stretch marks. With the current technology, it was only possible to lighten the stretch marks. There was no way to get rid of them completely. Ruan Xia remembered that one of her coworkers had cried a lot at home over getting stretch marks during her pregnancy. That coworker had wanted to die.

Ruan Xia didn’t know how much effort and work the original owner had spent, but there was one thing she was sure of. The original owner must have suffered a lot in order to give birth to Little Wang.

There would naturally be pain in giving birth, but Ruan Xia hadn’t expected that Little Wang would know to feel sympathy for his mother at such a young age.

Although there was a thin nightdress separating them, she seemed to feel the warmth of his lips. She patted his little head. Without being aware of it, her voice had become gentle as she said, “Mom doesn’t hurt anymore.”

Little Wang looked at her with his big eyes. “Really?”

“Really.” Ruan Xia patiently explained, “It’ll only hurt if mom has another baby. When that baby comes out, that’s the only time it’ll hurt.”

Little Wang thought it over. “Mom, don’t have another baby then. I don’t want mom to hurt.”

Ruan Xia couldn’t help laughing.

She definitely wouldn’t have to experience the pain of childbirth. In her original world, she had already planned on not getting married or having a child. Even if she somehow met someone that she wanted to marry, she would tell him in advance that she wanted to be DINK (Dual Income, No Kids).

Having a baby wasn’t the same as buying cabbage. In this day and age, even having a pet required someone to have the determination to take care of it to old age. A child had an even higher standard.

She didn’t have the confidence to be responsible for a little life.

“Okay,” Ruan Xia promised him, “Having Little Wang as my little baby is enough for mom.”

Little Wang was somewhat shy. Hugging her waist, he rubbed his head against her.

He liked hearing his mom saying that he was her baby.

After the mother and son pair were clingy for a little bit and Little Wang had fussed for a little while and drank his milk, sleepiness finally arrived for Little Wang. It was only then that Ruan Xia had time to think about other stuff, such as that pretend goodnight kiss.

She wasn’t someone that was above earthly desires and cravings. Having to face an outstanding guy like Song Tingshen every day, only the Heavens knew how much effort she put into restraining her impulses towards him.

When he had approached her earlier and slightly leaned over, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that her heart had almost jumped out.

Was there any young woman that wouldn’t want to close her eyes in that situation? How many people could resist that temptation?
