158 Future

Thunk!

After moving several items, Kate finally found the box. She put it inside her space and then jogged back to Kyle. Reaching his side, she meowed coquettishly.

“Meow.”

“Are you done?” Kyle picked Kate up effortlessly. He looked at the other researchers around him and nodded his head. “You can use this place. There’s no other giant mutated animals around. We’ll expand the area later.”

“Got it.”

The researchers looked at each other and looked quite helpless.

On the other hand, Kyle ignored them all and carried Kate out of the place. Even though Kate could turn into a child, but Kate still prefer her cat’s form because she couldn’t accept being a little kid anymore.

Her age was already 21 years old and having to act so childishly again... her heart couldn’t take it. At the very least, when she was a cat, her face didn’t need to burn.

Kyle brought Kate to their car and closed the door. He put the cat on the chair beside him, watching her turn back into a little kid. This time, there was a box on Kate’s lap, which she showed to Kyle.

.....

“I found this in that place.” Kate raised the box with her small hands. She felt a bit helpless when she saw that this box still looked fairly big even when she turned into a human being.

“What do you find inside?” Kyle asked, his voice low. 𝗳𝘳𝐞e𝙬𝙚𝚋𝗻𝚘𝚟𝗲l.𝑐𝑜m

Kate looked at the box. “A few gem and a very special gem.”

“How special?”

“I can’t see the content exactly, but I think that this might be the one that these giant mutated animals are chasing.” Kate pouted. “That gem is emitting more than one elements from what I can sense.”

More than 1 element?

All this time, Kyle had only found the gems of one element. This even made him wonder whether these gems were truly only one color or there were actually stacked together at first before they were separated?

But there was no one who wanted to tell him, so Kyle could only choose the long way to figure out the truth.

“Perhaps, it’s the intersection between the gems.” Kyle nodded and patted Kate’s head. “You did good for finding it.”

“Hehehe.” Kate giggled.

“Keep the box inside your space.”

“Don’t you want it?” Kate asked curiously.

“If even an ordinary gem had already attracted so many giant mutated animals, what do you think more than one color gem would do?” Kyle asked back.

Talking with this little girl really didn’t feel like talking with little kid at times like this. However, this little cat was still very likely to act like a little kid most of the time, especially when she snuggled closer.

Kyle’s eyes narrowed.

“There will be even more giant mutated animals.” Kate knew that.

She faintly could guess why the researchers chose to leave this box inside this place. If these giant mutated animals were attracted to these gems, they would definitely come to this place, so they could run.

After all, there was no guarantee that they could protect the content. Rather than letting these giant mutated animals obtain these gems and made them even stronger, it would be better for them to leave the box behind and let those who are stronger managed to find it and use the content.

But the problem was, they definitely couldn’t open this gem in City E.

There will be countless giant mutated animals who will be coming here because they’re attracted by the gem.

“I can make a space barrier, is it not enough?” Kate asked.

“When you retract the space barrier, the air between the two world will blend, isn’t it?” Kyle asked back.

From what he knew, Kate’s space barrier was only isolating this place for a period of time. This would cause the world outside to be unable to hear any voice, power, or anything within the contained space, letting it diffuse inside. But when Kate lifted up the space barrier, the two ‘world’ will make contact again.

At that time, the aura from these gems will definitely attract giant mutated animals. City E was the place they arranged to stay for the next few months or even years, so Kyle didn’t want to take the risk.

Kate nodded. “Right. In that case, let’s open it somewhere where we can fight a lot and then absorb these gems.”

Kyle laughed lightly when he saw the mischievous light within the little girl beside him. He felt a bit conflicted. Sometimes, he felt that this little cat was such a young and cute girl, but at times, she would be very mature that he was a bit perplexed.

How should he treat this little cat exactly?

While Kyle was still in dilemma, Kate put the box into her space again. She then took out a children’s hat and wore it on her head. This way, her ear would be completely hidden. Anyway, her tail could be curled up, so no one will be able to see it.

She turned to look at Kyle with a bright smile. “Do I look like a normal kid, now?”

Kyle was silent.

The two pairs of blue eyes were staring at each other deeply as if they were attracted to each other. He took a deep breath and nodded. “Yeah, you look like a normal kid.”

Kate beamed and then stretched her hand.

Seeing this motion, Kyle chuckled and carried Kate in his arm. He knew that she wanted him to carry her around and this made him truly feel like he was being a father. Walking out of the car, he watched the situation around before heading to the temporary military base to find his father.

His element was not suitable for rebuilding and anything like that. If anything, he was sure that he would be the best for destroying.

General Ryan will surely kick him out if he were to volunteer of destroying things.

“Oh, you’re here, Kyle.” General Ryan saw Kyle approaching and his eyes landed on the little girl on Kyle’s arm. He had to admit that this really made his son looked like he had a daughter.

“How’s the progress?” Kyle asked calmly.

“The soldiers and the people are going to work together.” General Ryan narrowed his eyes. “For people like you who are of unsuitable element to build, you’re arranged to kill the giant mutated animals around the area.”

“Oh, it’s easy then.” Kyle nodded.

That kind of job was the most suitable for him. Considering that he could kill a lot of these giant mutated animals in one go, Kyle felt that it was indeed the most suitable position for him. And if he were to stay away from City E, he would be able to unleash his true ability without caring for the damage.

Being awakened and obtained power that couldn’t be imagined before... it was both restricting and satisfying. Satisfying one’s desire to be able to get stronger. But at the same time, he had to restrict his ability if he still wanted to blend with the others.

Should he failed to control his ability, it was estimated that many people would hate him to their death.

“You’re not allowed to go too far today.” General Ryan looked at his son and knew what he was thinking.

“Fine, fine.”

“Wait, I need some supplies from you.”

“Kitty.” Kyle glanced at Kate.

Kate glared at Kyle. For some reason, when he removed the word ‘little’ it really felt like he was calling her nickname directly. Taking a deep breath, Kate took out a lot of resources from her space.

General Ryan was satisfied when he saw the pile of resources.

“Ok, that should be enough. Where do you plan to stay for the night?”

“I’ll camp outside the research facility. Tomorrow, the others should be ready to build the building above and then expand below.” Kyle answered calmly.

“Got it.”

Kate looked around and saw that with these awakened working together with the soldiers and ordinary people, building houses become extremely quick. Those of wood element could also make the wooden blocks in order to support the house.

Sound of laughter began to be heard.

This made Kate feel some nostalgia, as if the hope that had been lost was slowly reignited. When the world changed, Kate often felt that it would be impossible for them to truly maintain the peace when there were no giant mutated animals around.

But hearing the sound of laughter and children running around while carrying rocks to help... Kate felt that it was no longer impossible again.

The future was still not clear.

They had to fight bitterly.

And it would be an arduous road ahead.

But for the sake of these people who were still living and for themselves, they could take another step to strive forward and fight for the better future.

Unknowingly, a drop of tear fell to the ground.
