The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 79: I Think I Saw You Cry
Outside the cave, the rain was a torrential downpour. A bolt of lightning struck, illuminating the storm clouds churning between Thorne’s brows.
Curled up in the blankets, Evangeline blinked innocently. She ignored Thorne’s sarcasm and covered her mouth with a theatrical flair. "I think I saw you crying yesterday," she said, her tone deliberately affected.
’So she has some fire in her today. Then who was it yesterday, holding her blood-soaked body and roaring like a madman?’
Thorne’s fingers stopped mid-motion, his knuckles turning white.
He clenched his jaw, the muscles in his face twitching. The taste of rust filled his mouth.
’The moment she was on the brink of death, vomiting blood and passing out, his mind had gone completely blank. At that moment, the Beast God Contract, the Contract Patterns—he had tossed them all aside.’
’He remembered how he had trembled while lifting her paper-light body. The reek of blood had filled his nose, and in that instant, a searing pain had shot through him—a pain far worse than when his Beast Crystal had been torn out!’
’He suddenly realized that the hatred that had gnawed at his heart day and night, the blood debt he had sworn to repay... it all seemed laughably insignificant before her blood-stained lips and shallow breaths.’
Thorne’s expression was terrifyingly grim, a complex storm of emotions churning in his eyes.
Caden Albright, who had been standing to the side, had already turned and left the cave the moment Thorne’s composure shattered.
’He and Thorne were both Evangeline’s males. At a time like this, it was best to give them some time alone.’
’He believed that even though they had once been consumed by hatred, he and Thorne now felt the same way: they just wanted her to live well, not to be hurt.’ 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Evangeline called out in a small voice, "Thorne? Okay, I won’t talk about..."
The next moment, Thorne seized her chin. His pale fingertips roughly grazed the swollen corner of her mouth, but the moment he felt the warmth of her lips, his pressure abruptly softened.
"Evangeline..." His voice was fractured, trembling so badly he was nearly incoherent. A dark tide of anguish swelled in his deep green eyes. "I don’t care about what happened before. I won’t ask again. But you can’t abandon me again!"
"If you ever dare again... I’ll devour you, and we’ll die together!"
Thorne pressed her down onto the bed, his sharp fangs grazing the throbbing pulse in her neck. The menacing tail of his threat dissolved into the sound of their mingled breaths.
The torrential rain outside the cave drowned out the choked sob caught in his throat.
"Don’t abandon me again..."
Evangeline met his obsessive, vulnerable gaze. Her long lashes fluttered, a touch as light as a sigh. "Does that mean you forgive me?"
Before she could finish, her words were swallowed by his passionate kiss.
Evangeline returned Thorne’s kiss. It was fervent and searing, yet where he couldn’t see, her beautiful eyes were filled with a clear, detached calm.
’Two males who had hated her to their very bones, two of the most difficult beasts to tame, were finally docile.’
After a good while, Caden Albright returned. His voice carried a lazy, weary note as he announced, "The rain has stopped."
Thorne turned to look at him, his gaze falling on the Fallen Star Pattern at the center of Caden’s forehead. Thorne’s brows knitted together. "The rainy season is almost here. I have to take her back to the Grymdale Tribe, but your Star Pattern..."
His voice trailed off.
On the Beastman Continent, Fallen Beastmen were symbols of corruption. If Caden Albright went to the Grymdale Tribe, it would undoubtedly cause an uproar. They might be exiled before the rainy season even began.
Caden Albright’s expression was frigid, the corner of his mouth twisting into a beautiful yet savage sneer. "I’m going to guard her and watch my cub be born. If anyone gets in my way, I’ll just kill them."
After living at the foot of Thorncliff for so long, he naturally had little kindness left in him.
Thorne’s brow furrowed even deeper as he listened to this "terrorist" declaration.
’If an Eight-Star Pattern Fallen Beastman truly made a move against the Grymdale Tribe, no one would be able to stop him.’
As the two men spoke, Evangeline gently crooked her finger, a flirtatious light shimmering in her eyes. "Caden—" Her voice was a sultry, swirling whisper. "Come here."
Caden paused, then walked to the side of the bed. Before he could speak, Evangeline patted the edge of the mattress. The moment he sat down, she flicked her wrist, and a forehead band embroidered with dark gold thread appeared between her fingers.
Her slender hands moved through his silver-white hair, tying the band securely.
Kneeling on the bed, Evangeline tilted her head to study Caden. "It looks very good," she praised.
His features were already stunningly beautiful. With his silver hair cascading like a waterfall, the dark gold band covering the Star Pattern on his forehead lent him an air of cold, noble elegance, making him seem almost sacrosanct.
Caden reached up to gently touch the band on his forehead. Seeing the undisguised delight in Evangeline’s eyes, the corners of his lips curved up, and his expression softened. A low, lazy laugh rumbled from his chest.
In that instant, their gazes met, as if they were sharing a silent, beautiful, and tender secret. The air around them seemed to thicken with a lingering intimacy.
Leaning against the stone wall, Thorne unconsciously rubbed his knuckles against the sharp bone knife at his waist.
His dark green eyes reflected the scene, and a pang of bitterness welled up in his heart.
His brow twitched, and he said flatly, "You’d best keep that Fallen Beastman temper of yours in check. We can deal with everything else once we’re safely through the rainy season."
Caden shot him a glance, then turned and transformed into a massive, three-meter-tall white fox.
He lowered his body, offering his back to Evangeline.
Evangeline got out of bed and expertly climbed onto Caden’s back. It felt like sinking into a cloud. She gave a comfortable little roll in his fur, but when she looked up and met Thorne’s dark, unreadable gaze, she paused for a moment.
The corners of her eyes lifted in a sly smile directed at Thorne. She hugged Caden’s big, fluffy, snow-white tail, but her voice was exceptionally soft when she spoke to Thorne. "Thorne, let’s go home now."
Thorne let out a cold snort, his dark green eyes filled with displeasure.
Nevertheless, when he turned, a giant black python was already slithering into the woods, the grass and leaves bowing in its wake.
HISS—
Thorne, his python head held high, scouted the path ahead. With casual flicks, the tip of his tail snapped overgrown old vines, clearing the way for those behind him.
Caden’s back was as steady as a mountain, and he would occasionally adjust his gait to make her ride more comfortable.
’Evangeline suddenly thought that the customs on the Beastman Continent were quite civilized.’
’A female could have multiple husbands and was only responsible for bearing children. The males, meanwhile, all worked together, each with their own role, to provide every possible service for their one female. They would even sacrifice their lives for her. What was the difference between that and being treated like a queen?’
’This was with just two males. If she managed to gather all seven, just how blissful would life be?’
Evangeline’s eyes were half-closed as her fingertips idly twirled Caden’s snow-white fur.
’Of course, that was just a passing thought. She wasn’t the type to just lie back and rely on men.’
’Once her mission was complete, she would find a beautiful, secluded spot. She’d plant flowers in the spring, listen to cicadas on summer nights, harvest fruit in the fall, and huddle by the fire in winter. She would finally live the life she’d always dreamed of.’
’As for men... she’d heard that looking at chiseled abs was good for one’s health. She planned on finding a few fresh sets.’
As the first rays of morning light filtered through the forest canopy, the corners of Evangeline’s lips curled into a silent smile.
She was already looking forward to it.
Over the next few days, Thorne and Caden Albright cared for Evangeline with meticulous attention.
But the rainy season had begun, and a drizzle would often start without warning. They would barely take a few steps before a downpour began. This incessant, gloomy rain greatly slowed their journey back to the Grymdale Tribe.
Evangeline didn’t see many Wild Beasts along the way.
As they neared the Grymdale Tribe, the rain became a torrential downpour. Murky water rose rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, it had flooded a hollow half a meter deep.
Thorne looked back at Caden, his scarlet tongue flicking rapidly through the rain. In a low voice, he said, "We need to speed up. The mountain path will be washed out by the floodwater soon."
The words had barely left his mouth when a torrent of floodwater, mud, and debris came tumbling down the mountain, crashing at their feet.
Evangeline was taken aback. Sheltered by Caden’s tail, she had stayed relatively dry. However, it seemed the rainy season on the Beastman Continent was not as simple as she had thought...
