Chapter 26: Chapter 216: Brother Orion

Melora Moretti bared her fangs, her face a mask of fury. "Brother Thorne was harmed by someone!"

"Oh?" Evangeline watched Melora Moretti fuming, her eyes glinting with curiosity.

Melora Moretti said through gritted teeth, "Brother Thorne was injured and was taken in by that Evangeline from the Oasis Tribe. She forced him into a Contract... dug out his Beast Crystal, and shattered his Star Pattern! He was completely forced into it!"

As she spoke, Melora Moretti’s serpentine eyes reddened, misting over as if covered by a thin veil. Her once-lively eyes were now filled with sorrow, and even her jade-green scales began to tremble.

Evangeline narrowed her eyes, the smile in them softening slightly. "What are you crying for? It’s not like he’s going to die."

Hearing this, Melora Moretti froze, her bright red eyes staring straight at Evangeline. "Really?"

’She’d heard the Witch say that with Brother Thorne’s Star Pattern shattered, his lifespan had been drastically reduced. He didn’t have much longer to live.’

"Of course!" Evangeline was calm and composed, her unhurried manner exuding an air of reliability.

Melora Moretti thought of how easily Evangeline had just saved her, and her heart filled with gratitude and admiration.

She bobbed her snake head emphatically. The light returned to her once-dull serpentine eyes, and her voice grew spirited, as if her entire body was filled with strength again. "I believe you!" she declared. "I’ll help you gather herbs!"

The words had barely left her mouth before Melora Moretti sprang into action.

She was as agile as a bolt of green lightning, slithering swiftly across the rock face.

No hollow or crevice on the cliff face escaped her keen eyes. Whenever she spotted one of the herbs Evangeline had been gathering, she would quickly draw near, carefully bite down on its root, and gently tug it free.

In the process, she inevitably brushed against sharp rocks and thorny briars, causing her existing wounds to bleed. But she paid them no mind, stubbornly continuing to help Evangeline gather the herbs.

She must truly not want Thorne to die. She was, indeed, the Grymdale Tribe’s rare, kind little maiden.

With Melora Moretti’s help, the herb gathering progressed quickly. Evangeline didn’t try to hide it, placing all the herbs Melora Moretti brought over into her space. Once they were off the cliff face, Melora Moretti shifted into her human form. Seeing Evangeline’s empty hands, her eyes widened in astonishment. "Where are the herbs? Did you throw them away??"

As she spoke, Melora Moretti leaned frantically over the edge of the cliff to look down. "Didn’t you say these herbs could save my Brother Thorne? Why did you just throw them away?? No! I have to go down and find them!"

But the moment she spoke, disaster struck!

The ground began to shake. Fissures spread rapidly like a spiderweb, and in the blink of an eye, huge chunks of the cliff face started to break away and collapse, rolling downward like a raging torrent in a cloud of dust and debris!

Melora Moretti nearly fell over the edge, but Evangeline frowned and pulled her back.

They stood on the bare clifftop. Feeling the earth tremble beneath her, Melora Moretti’s face went white as a sheet, and she began to shake uncontrollably. "It’s... it’s the Beast God! The Beast God is angry again!"

"Run!" Evangeline’s expression turned ice-cold as she grabbed Melora Moretti and ran toward the Hunting Grounds.

They hadn’t run far when Melora Moretti’s eyes suddenly widened. Her face lit up with delighted surprise, and her voice trembled with excitement as she pointed to the sky and shouted, "Brother Orion!"

’Brother Orion?’

Evangeline frowned. It wasn’t the first time she had heard that name.

She looked where Melora Moretti was pointing and saw a Wyvern spreading its enormous wings against the vast, boundless sky. It emanated a piercing aura, and every flap of its wings seemed powerful enough to rip the heavens apart.

It had clearly flown in from beyond the Grymdale Tribe’s lands, soaring freely across the sky. It showed no concern for the raging earthquake below, like a king reigning supreme over disaster itself.

Evangeline narrowed her eyes, her sharp gaze spotting a person on the Wyvern’s back.

The man knelt on the Wyvern’s back, his posture ramrod-straight. As the creature beat its wings and soared, his long, smooth hair flew wildly, the cold white at the tips gleaming as if edged in silver under the sun.

His face was gaunt, his skin so pale it was almost translucent, utterly devoid of color. His features were sharp and well-defined, as if chiseled by a master sculptor. His handsome eyes and brows, which should have been picturesque, were instead filled with a boundless hostility, a gaze that felt like it could scorch the very earth. Anyone could sense the profound hatred in his heart.

’Thorne?’

Evangeline was surprised. ’How did he end up with the Wyvern Clan?’

While Evangeline was lost in thought, Melora Moretti had already pulled her hand free and was waving her arms frantically toward the sky. "Brother Orion! Brother Thorne! I’m over here! I’m over here—"

Beastmen are born with sharp hearing, and this Wyvern’s Star Pattern was clearly high-level, marking it as a powerful individual. It caught Melora Moretti’s excited shouts, and in the next instant, threw its head back with a deafening cry that rolled like thunder, as if answering her call.

Then, its massive body twisted nimbly in the air, and it began to circle as it descended toward the ground.

As the Wyvern drew closer, each flap of its wings kicked up a powerful gale, swirling the dust on the ground a dozen feet into the air and shrouding the creature in a hazy veil.

"Melora Moretti? What are you doing here?!" Through the swirling dust, a clear male voice, thick with surprise and disbelief, cut through the haze.

Evangeline’s gaze shot toward the source of the voice.

The first person to emerge from the dust cloud was a young male.

He had broad shoulders and a narrow waist, with a beast skin wrapped around his hips that gave him a wild look. His features, however, held a surprising purity, and his long, black hair hung loose down his back, lending him a carefree and untamed air.

’She quickly searched her original owner’s memories and confirmed she’d never seen this person before. Without a doubt, this had to be the "Brother Orion" Melora Moretti was so fond of mentioning.’

’His beast form is a Wyvern.’

Evangeline’s gaze fell upon Orion’s forehead. A fiery red, six-pointed Star Pattern shone there, dazzlingly bright.

On the Beastman Continent, while the Star Pattern was a key factor in a Beastman’s strength, their beast form often determined the upper limit of their potential.

Powerful beings like Wyverns, who sat at the top of the food chain, could also cultivate their Beast Crystals far faster than ordinary Beastman races. They were truly blessed by nature.

After a brief assessment, Evangeline’s gaze shifted to Thorne.

He was shrouded in a repressive, gloomy aura, as if followed by his own personal storm cloud.

Thorne, by contrast, was utterly cold and distant.

His gaze was hollow and cold, passing right through where Evangeline stood as if she were nothing but air. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Then, he mechanically turned his head. His indifferent gaze landed on Melora Moretti, just as frigid and devoid of warmth. His thin lips parted, and he said to Orion in a hoarse voice, "I’m heading back."

The earth had stopped shaking by now, but ugly fissures still crisscrossed the ground in every direction.

As if he hadn’t noticed, Thorne launched himself into the air with a single leap, vanishing into the wilderness in an instant.

"Brother Thorne..." Melora Moretti murmured, her expression crestfallen.

Orion saw Melora Moretti’s crestfallen expression and shook his head. He then turned to Evangeline, his gaze scrutinizing, his voice laced with a casual danger. "Who are you?"
