The Villainess Wants a Divorce:Beast Husbands Regret It to Tears-Chapter 83: Bartering Meat at the Door
Her beast skin skirt edge was also covered in a thick layer of dust, and there was even a small tear at the knee.
Yet she didn’t say a word, quietly tidying up the house.
His heart ached, as if something had fiercely tugged at it.
Almost instinctively, he dropped the handful of dry grass in his hand, took a few steps forward, and unhesitatingly picked her up in his arms.
"Don’t move, just sit still."
Seraphina Caldwell was taken aback and instinctively tried to struggle to get up.
"I’m fine, I can do it myself..."
But as soon as she moved, his hand pressed down on her shoulder.
His brows were furrowed, his gaze fixed on her, his tone unusually serious.
"Even if we are to part ways in the end, you are still my Female Master now. How can I let a female do work? If word got out, it would be me who gets laughed at, not you."
His words sounded a bit amusing, carrying a hint of old tribal male stubbornness.
But she couldn’t find words to refute.
Her throat suddenly felt tight.
She no longer resisted.
She obediently sat, watching him take care of things.
Gideon Larkin moved swiftly, sweeping the floor, stacking firewood, and cleaning the corners all in one go.
In no time, the room had a whole space cleared out, and even the air felt fresher.
Sunlight streamed in through the cracks of the worn-out window, spilling onto the cleared central floor.
"Alright, come over here."
Seraphina Caldwell beckoned to him, her fingers already holding the Beast Bone Necklace.
It was the medium symbolizing the dissolution of the contract.
Carved by her own hand, embedded with the shared Soul Seal Runes of the two.
As long as her blood dripped onto the mark, the contract would gradually dissolve.
Gideon Larkin slowly walked over, his steps somewhat heavy.
He finally closed his eyes, gently lowered his head, revealing the light blue scorpion-shaped mark on his chest.
She lightly made a cut, and a bead of crimson blood slowly emerged from her fingertip.
The blood fell, precisely.
Landing squarely on the scorpion-shaped mark.
Instantly, a subtle wave spread in the air.
The originally deep blue mark, upon being soaked by the blood, began to gradually fade.
In the blink of an eye, it faded by a third.
Gideon Larkin stared blankly at the faded mark on his chest, his eyes hollow.
Kaelan Hawthorne once said, Seraphina Caldwell has recently become gentle, but it’s just an act.
She approached them, treated them well, just to make them willingly say, "Don’t want to break the contract."
Once they hesitated, she would immediately turn hostile and take the opportunity to punish them.
Just now, when Seraphina Caldwell mentioned the blood drip, her whole demeanor relaxed.
That expression was so natural, without a flaw, how could it be a disguise?
Clearly, she eagerly wanted to sever the contract relationship with him from the bottom of her heart.
"What are you daydreaming about?"
Seraphina Caldwell’s clear voice seemed to drift over from afar.
"There’s not even a drop of water in the house, it’s so dry it’s smoking. Go outside by the stream and fetch some water. I’ll go by the Clan Leader’s and see if I can scrounge some meat to stew a soup, even just a sip is better than chomping on wild greens."
Gideon Larkin subconsciously nodded, just about to step out, but suddenly turned back abruptly.
"That’s the Clan Leader, not just any small tribe leader. You’re an outsider female, if you speak out of turn and upset him..."
Seeing this, Seraphina Caldwell immediately smiled brightly, soothing him in a soft tone.
"Don’t worry about it, silly. This is the Leopard Clan village; they are reasonable and not like the brutal wolf or leopard clans, it’s very safe. Besides, my face, with its black spots crisscrossing, which male would be interested? The Clan Leader would avoid me, fearing bad luck."
She paused, her eyes slightly shifting, then added seriously.
"Today it’s just you as the Beast Husband; if you go out to hunt, I’ll end up guarding an empty house alone. In this unfamiliar place, if something were to happen, there’d be no one to talk to. It’s perfectly reasonable for me to go ask the Clan Leader for some food. Don’t worry, I’ll just ask and trade for a bit, won’t take long."
Gideon Larkin stood silently, his fingers unconsciously stroking the stone knife handle at his waist.
He repeatedly weighed the pros and cons.
If he went hunting, he’d need to cover tens of miles of mountain paths at least.
Leaving her alone in this unfamiliar tribe would be even less safe.
But if he let her go to the Clan Leader’s, with legitimate prey for exchange,
A dignified Clan Leader wouldn’t trouble a female coming to trade for meat.
He finally breathed a sigh of relief and nodded.
"Just make sure you’re careful. Don’t wander along the way, and when you enter the Clan Leader’s home, don’t bow too low, just say what you need to. If anyone dares to bully you, shout immediately, don’t hesitate, and I’ll drop everything and come rushing back."
"Got it! You’re such a nag!"
Seraphina Caldwell waved her hand playfully, her tone cheeky, turned, and pushed the door open to step out.
She walked toward the direction where she had met Caspian Sterling during the day.
Gideon Larkin stood at the doorway, his gaze tightly following her figure without blinking.
Until she disappeared into the corner of the alley, completely out of sight, he let out a gentle sigh.
Seraphina Caldwell walked in the lingering glow of the sunset.
The wind blew from the hillside, carrying a faint aroma of grass and wood.
Occasionally, there wafted a burnt scent of roasted meat.
By the roadside, several males were squatting at their wooden house doors, heads down, focused on scraping beast skins.
Hearing footsteps, they looked up, glanced at the dark spots on her face, and with slightly furrowed brows, gave her a second look before lowering their heads again, occupied with their tasks, without speaking.
Before long, she stood before the Clan Leader’s house, which stood half a meter taller than the others.
The wooden house was built with large logs, the roof covered with thick thatch.
There were strings of dried beast bones hanging on the door frame.
Seraphina Caldwell paused, standing at the door, taking a deep breath.
She raised her hand and gently knocked on the door panel with her knuckles.
The beast skin curtain inside the house rustled open.
Caspian Sterling appeared at the doorway.
He wore a dark brown leather robe, his shoulders broad, his back wide, his brows sharp.
At once, he saw Seraphina Caldwell standing alone in front of the door, dragging a hyena that had long since stopped breathing.
"Why is it you? Coming to find me at this time, something up?"
Seraphina Caldwell did not back down, instead pushing the hyena forward.
"Caspian Sterling, this is the hyena my Beast Husband caught this morning. The meat is too tough to chew, and it reeks. I don’t like eating it. I’d like to trade it for some other meat with you, like deer leg or rabbit meat. If you could, maybe some wild fruits too, so I can make some soup, making it worth the trip."
Caspian Sterling’s eyebrow slightly raised, a flash of surprise quickly passed through his eyes.
He folded his arms, looking at her from above, his tone faintly amused.
"You, a female, personally dragging prey to trade?"
What tribe’s female would proactively carry a dead beast to ask the Clan Leader to trade for food?
This was truly a first.
He glanced at the hyena. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
It was a mature male hyena, strong and muscular.
Though the fur was somewhat disheveled, it was clear how powerful it had been in life.
The meat on its hind legs alone amounted to nearly half a slab, the whole weigh probably not less than twenty pounds.
Indeed, there was plenty of meat, enough to cook two to three hearty meals.
She alone dragged such a heavy prey out of the forest.
Along the way, avoiding thorns and potholes, she must have exerted quite an effort.
"Where’s your Beast Husband? Why isn’t he with you?"
He couldn’t help but ask, slightly frowning, feeling a nameless anger inside.
