The Villainess Wants a Divorce:Beast Husbands Regret It to Tears-Chapter 159: The Embrace of Reunion
Seraphina Caldwell was caught off guard, her back pressing against his warm chest.
She hesitated slightly, wanting to struggle, but he held her even tighter.
"Let me hold you for a moment, just for a while."
Seraphina was squeezed until she couldn’t breathe, her cheeks slightly flushed. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The man hesitated for a moment, then slowly loosened his arms.
Yet he refused to let go completely, only pulling back a little.
But as soon as he stepped back a bit, Isaac Vaughn immediately stepped forward, pulling her into his embrace.
"I want to hold you too."
Before Isaac could let go, Gideon Larkin rubbed his hands and approached from the side.
With a smile on his face and bright eyes, it was clear he wanted to join in this reunion hug.
He was about to open his arms when Seraphina swiftly raised her hand to stop him.
"Don’t come over, I’m really about to be crushed!"
She rubbed her aching waist, then reached out to push Isaac away too.
Despite feeling touched inside, being embraced by three large men in succession left her breathless.
She could understand their excitement and emotional release after surviving the ordeal.
But she couldn’t handle one after another coming forward to hug tightly...
Could it be they switched tactics, planning to hug her until she suffocated?
Evan Orwell stood a few steps away, glanced at the chaotic scene here, and then turned silently towards the door.
He squatted down, starting to handle the heap of prey on the ground.
"Rest for a while, I’ll brew some herbs to prepare for those coming tomorrow."
Her gaze slid over Wyatt Yardley.
Seeing him kneeling on the ground, sorting the dry grass laid in the stone house.
Then looking at Isaac, who was wiping the watermark on the table.
Gideon was squatting in the doorway, helping Evan pick out herbs.
Seraphina leaned against the wooden table, quietly watching them walk around the stone house.
Now, she understood it all.
These people had nothing really wrong with them.
Their injuries, tired faces, staggering steps on the road today...
It was all an act, intentionally for her to see.
They were all pretending to be seriously injured to make her take the initiative to heal them.
Their aim was to force her to use her healing abilities.
From the very beginning, they were testing her.
Yet, even so, seeing them one by one collapsing, she couldn’t stand by and watch.
Now that they’re safe, the stone that hung over her heart has finally fallen.
But what followed was an even deeper unease.
Though no one asked more about the details of how she healed injuries.
Yet she could feel their gazes containing a new form of scrutiny.
This ability, she originally didn’t want to reveal.
After all, in the outside world, people with healing powers were either imprisoned, hunted, or used as tools by those in power.
She had always carefully hidden herself, just to live freely without control.
But the situation was too critical then.
She really had no choice but to use the power of the Spiritual Spring Water.
Ultimately, were it not for her, they wouldn’t have suffered such severe injuries.
She was the source of the trouble.
Precisely because of this, she couldn’t stand by.
But now, her father remains missing, and the rainy season is fast approaching.
Their contract has not yet been lifted.
Now even the secret of the Spiritual Spring Water has been exposed.
She can no longer pretend she knows nothing.
What to do next?
She has no clue.
Is it to continue following them, allowing them to use her?
Or find a chance to quietly leave?
But if she leaves, where would she go?
Her father is still waiting for her, and beyond this mountain forest, dangers lurk everywhere.
Though Wyatt Yardley once promised not to reveal her healing ability, people can change.
If one day she really decides to leave, can they keep their mouths shut?
Or would they use every means possible, even forcibly keep her?
Or...
Is it because they know she has this usefulness that they are more unwilling to break the contract?
Seraphina looked down at her own hands.
The spring water that once saved lives bound her here tightly.
She could clearly feel the beast husbands’ attitudes toward her had changed.
But the more it was so, the more anxious she felt inside.
Because she knows clearly, not every gentle gesture conceals true sincerity.
She cannot distinguish whether this "difference" is genuine affection or mixed with other motives.
Maybe it’s simply because she can now provide food and bring survival resources to the tribe, thus deserving favorable treatment.
Or perhaps...
This is all a carefully crafted recruitment and appeasement?
She cannot be certain.
After all, human hearts are difficult to measure, who can ensure they don’t show their true colors during private moments?
Who can ensure that at the moment a crisis arrives, those seemingly tender eyes won’t suddenly turn cold and indifferent?
Seraphina quietly looked at Kaelan Hawthorne’s back, feeling a tug in her heart.
He once was her most trusted reliance.
But now that trust has cracked open, unable to completely mend.
She dares not gamble, nor easily entrust her trust.
Just like when Kaelan previously abandoned her without a word to escape alone?
He said it was to draw away the enemies, but why choose to leave at her most critical moment?
If truly meant to save her, why not a single explanation afterward?
She wishes to believe he once had his own reasons, but the feeling of being hurt isn’t deceptive.
Kaelan came over holding the cooked meat.
His palm carrying a large green leaf, on top laid several meat pieces neatly.
He extended the leaf with the meat towards Seraphina.
Seraphina reached out to take it, softly saying thank you.
Yet her gaze stayed on the meat, not looking at his face.
She didn’t pretend not to see his carefulness.
But she dared not respond, nor wanted to appear too forgiving.
Because once softened, one might fall into the same trap again.
Kaelan’s hand paused in mid-air, the initial motion to retract it froze.
After a moment, he murmured a low "hmm."
Then quickly turned around, distributing the remaining meat to others.
Wyatt Yardley sat beside, watching this scene clearly.
Before when Seraphina received something handed by Kaelan, no matter how indifferent, she would force a smile.
And today?
Aside from a distant word of thanks, she wouldn’t give an ounce of glance.
From beginning to end, she didn’t look up at him, not even her fingertips brushed his hand.
Wyatt Yardley frowned, watching Kaelan walk away with his head down.
He vaguely guessed that something might have happened between them these past days.
Perhaps an old issue was brought up, perhaps a word spoken wrongly, or maybe...
Kaelan had once again done something disappointing?
No matter what, the cracks are laid bare, feigning ignorance can no longer fool anyone.
Dinner time was unexpectedly quiet.
No one spoke, no one told jokes, even someone as naturally lively as Gideon became quiet.
Gideon opened his mouth several times trying to break the silence, about to shout something, but was suppressed again by a glance from Wyatt Yardley.
Gideon sheepishly shut his mouth, scratched the back of his head, muttering under his breath.
"I just wanted to lighten the mood..."
After dinner, Kaelan stood up and walked out.
His figure disappeared from the doorway momentarily, soon returning with both hands carrying a large wooden bucket full of clear water.
He walked beside Seraphina, slightly bent down, probing as he spoke.
"I noticed you didn’t wash by the river today, so I fetched some water... If you’d like to clean..."
