The Villainess Wants a Divorce:Beast Husbands Regret It to Tears-Chapter 148: Keeping Her
Seraphina Caldwell looked at him, her lips curling slightly.
"Like?"
She stared at him, emphasizing each word.
"The ’like’ you speak of, is it leaving me alone in the forest, listening to my cries for help, watching me chased by wolves until I crash into trees, bleeding and yet you refuse to appear?"
"Is it when I couldn’t climb up in front of the tree hollow, you just watched coldly from below, not even offering a hand, merely saying ’climb up yourself’ with indifference?"
Seraphina’s hands were shaking, not from fear, but from recalling the past events.
What she remembered wasn’t the occasional piece of meat he handed her, but his back as he turned away time and again.
Has he forgotten all of this?
Or did he simply not care?
"Kaelan Hawthorne, I am not someone who lets herself be mistreated. I can’t bear your ’like’.
She slowly closed her eyes.
"I’ll give you your freedom tomorrow. At dawn, with a drop of blood. Once the Beast Seal disappears, you can get out of my sight. I don’t want to see you again."
The moment she finished speaking, Kaelan’s previously flushed cheeks turned as white as paper.
His body froze in place, unable to move.
He wanted to explain, but he knew it was all too late.
Just then, with a thud, Kaelan suddenly knelt on the ground.
His knees hit the stone slabs heavily, causing him to frown in pain.
But he didn’t retreat, instead standing upright.
"Seraphina... I’m sorry. I was such a jerk. I was afraid, afraid to tell the truth..."
"I’ll change in the future, really change. I’ll do whatever you want as long as you don’t break the contract with me... okay?"
Seraphina looked down at him, a slight frown on her brow.
"You don’t have to kneel to me."
"You did nothing wrong. We were meant to part ways. Thank you for accompanying me to The Beast Realm, but from now on, we’re just strangers. You can’t touch me anymore, let alone kiss me—you don’t have that right."
"Strangers..."
Kaelan murmured, repeating the word, his face becoming extremely pale, and a sharp pain surged through his chest.
This wasn’t about throwing a tantrum.
Her gentleness was just a facade.
Once she made a decision, there was no going back.
The Beast Seal on his chest still remained, the purple-black scorpion pattern had faded almost to invisibility.
Four drops of blood had been shed.
If one more drop flowed, the contract would be completely broken.
Kaelan was scared.
He wanted to keep her, even if she hated him, hit him, or scolded him—better that than separating with nothingness remaining.
But once the contract was broken, they would truly become strangers, not even exchanging a single extra word.
He couldn’t let go, not at all!
Thinking of this, an eerie light flashed in his pupils, his gaze instantly changing.
Seraphina stared into his eyes, her mind suddenly went blank.
She just felt a sudden inexplicable dizziness wash over her, her previously clear thoughts becoming instantly blurred.
Kaelan abruptly stood up and hugged her tightly.
He buried his face in her hair, taking a deep breath.
"Seraphina... don’t break the contract, please?"
"You can hit me, scold me, or drive me away... just don’t leave."
"I’ll treat you well, treat you well for a lifetime, never again..."
The person in his arms stopped struggling, her previously tense body gradually relaxed, and her breath became calm.
She leaned obediently against his chest, finally giving up resistance.
Kaelan held her close, and tears finally rolled down his cheeks.
He knew this was wrong, that holding onto her in this way was cowardly and selfish.
But he really had no other choice.
Seraphina opened her eyes, her vision still a bit blurry.
The events of last night were unclear; she only remembered Kaelan secretly kissing her.
She had yelled at him out of anger.
He said, "I don’t want to break the contract"...
But what happened after that?
Her head suddenly throbbed with pain.
Suddenly, the aroma of meat wafted over, and her stomach growled loudly.
She sat up, feeling her empty stomach.
This guy really knows how to find food.
Even though they were entangled in a mess last night, he could turn around and roast meat with ease. She wondered where he got that kind of confidence.
She walked out and saw Kaelan crouching by the fire, his back turned to her, holding a skewer of roasted meat in his hand.
Hearing the noise, Kaelan paused his roasting.
"You’re awake? The meat is almost ready. I roasted it especially tender, and didn’t sprinkle too much salt."
Seraphina didn’t respond, her gaze lingering on the meat in his hand.
The pieces of meat had an even color and looked indeed tempting.
But she couldn’t see which piece was reserved for her.
She didn’t ask, didn’t bother speaking, turned around to a corner, and dug out a piece of leftover pork from the Beast Skin Bag.
Taking out her small knife, she cut it into small cubes, then threaded them onto a branch.
Then, she walked straight to the other end, distancing herself from him by a whole meter, and started to grill the meat slowly.
Kaelan’s hand froze abruptly in midair, his face fell instantly.
But he still said nothing, only stared intensely at her back.
She still didn’t trust him.
She’d rather do it herself than eat a single piece of the meat he roasted.
He had saved the best piece for her, the burnt one for himself, the tender one for her, but she didn’t even spare it a glance.
"Seraphina, what are you doing?"
He stood up, walking over to her, looking down at her skewered meat.
"I already roasted some, you don’t need to do it yourself."
Seraphina didn’t turn her head, her fingers lightly flicked the branch.
"It’s fine, I’m quick."
Kaelan looked at her lowered eyelashes, sadness welling up layer by layer within him.
He remembered that when she laughed, those eyes would curve into crescent moons.
But now, she couldn’t even bring herself to give him a smile.
After a few seconds, she suddenly took the meat down, putting the small cubes back into the bag.
Since he said he roasted two portions, she decided not to waste any.
"I’m going to wash my face."
After saying that, she stood up and walked towards the water bucket by the stone house.
Seeing that stone water bucket, she couldn’t help but think of Isaac Vaughn.
Isaac always chatted away with a smile, talking about the mundane affairs of the tribe, trying to amuse her.
She wondered how he was doing now.
Seraphina paused, staring blankly at the water bucket.
She didn’t dare think deeper, afraid that if she did, tears would uninvitingly rise up.
The bucket here was carved from stone, and as she crouched beside it, trying to scoop some water, she realized there wasn’t even a ladle.
Suddenly, footsteps approached from behind.
Kaelan was coming.
Before she could speak, he bent down, lifted the stone bucket with one hand, and gently tilted it, pouring half a basin of water into the wooden tub.
That stone bucket weighed at least fifty to sixty pounds, and an average person would need two people to move it.
But he lifted it effortlessly with one hand.
Seraphina was momentarily stunned, her gaze involuntarily falling on his strong arm.
Indeed, male strength is truly intimidating.
Thankfully, the Beast Seal restrained him; otherwise, she feared she would have been slapped into pulp by now.
"I’m your Beast Husband... these things, just say a word, and I’ll take care of them. Why do you feel the need to do everything yourself?"
Seraphina paused, finding his words inexplicable.
She clearly remembered that stormy night, him standing at the tribe’s entrance, coldly saying.
"I no longer wish to be your Beast Husband."
But now, why was he claiming to be her Beast Husband again?
She slowly raised her head, her gaze settling on his face.
This time, she didn’t dare to believe.
What did he want?
This question lingered in her mind.
She couldn’t understand why, despite the boundaries clearly drawn, he still stubbornly stood before her.
