Chapter 77: Sending Her Away

Nicholas cleared his throat and tried covering up his actions, saying, "There was something on your face."

"Oh..." Abigail blinked and looked at the awkwardness of the man. A thought clicked in her head. π•—π—Ώπ•–πžπ°π—²π•“π§π• π•§π—²π₯.πšŒπ¨πš–

Was this man blushing?

He touched her face out unknowingly and now he’s blushing because he himself doesn’t know why he did it.

Abigail giggled as she raised her hand and poked her husband’s cheek, saying, "You can touch me all you want." She even winked after saying that. "After all, I’m your wife!"

Nicholas quickly grabbed her wrist and said with squinted eyes, "Mind your hands."

"Otherwise? What will you do?"

"Don’t play with fire."

"I want to play with fire."

"..."

Nicholas took a deep breath and said, "If you’re fine, see yourself out."

After speaking those words, he let her hand go and turned back, heading toward his laptop. He had too much work to do, and he wasted so much time on that lady. And she was fine too. He was clearly worried for nothing.

Just as he was about to get his laptop, Abigail had already reached home at a quick pace and grabbed the man’s wrist. He looked at her excited glance and instantly realized nothing good was about to come out of her mouth.

So he said, not even giving her a chance to speak her nonsense, "Don’t you have to help Chris?"

"Huh?" Abigail was surprised by the sudden change of topic and tilted her head in confusion. "Oh yes! His date! Why am I wasting my time here?! You’ll surely handle that news!"

After all, she saved Nicholas after all the work for a reason, and that was to save her life. Since he had that kind of responsibility, she knew the man would do his job.

So she relaxed, not trembling out of fear anymore. Now that things have calmed down, she should head outside and help her brother-in-law for a change!

This, excitedly, she opened the door, grinning ear-to-ear.

That was what happened inside, but was Abigail thick-faced enough to speak those words out loud? No. Even a woman like her knew what she should say and what she shouldn’t.

Even if she spoke everything up in a fit of her mood, she would blush the next second.

She patted her cheeks and raised her head excitedly. "Let’s go! We have a date to plan!"

While they were planning, Nicholas was on the phone with his assistant.

"So there’s no connection with Chloe?" Nicholas asked, referring to the knife-stabbing event.

Even though he knew that the old woman was responsible for this mess, she left no traces behind, making herself clean and neat. Looks like he would have to use a different tactic to bring out black material on her.

His expression grew serious as he said, "Plant a spy on her. I don’t care what you do but do it. Also, find the culprit for the last thing I mentioned. Be quick."

After saying that, he hung up the call and pressed the bridge of his nose.

That skull origami serial killer was back, and once again, he killed someone around Abigail. Was someone targeting her? Could it be one of Chloe’s enemies after her daughter?

Possible.

That damned woman indeed left a shadow on that innocent, moody young woman.

But there was another possibility. It could also be one of his enemies, targeting him indirectly. Even though Nicholas hadn’t revealed the name of his wife, if someone wanted to find out, they could obtain the information easily.

Maybe the best solution for Abigail would be to send her to another country for her safety momentarily and plot another identity for her. That would keep her away from the enemy for sure.

After thinking about it, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

Certainly, never in his right mind, he had thought of contacting that cousin of his if not for his current situation.

Just as he called, the other person also picked it up after one ring.

"My dear cousin, what a pleasant surprise!" Asher echoed through the phone. "It’s about Abigail, isn’t it? C’mon, you want to ask me a favor, isn’t it?"

"Yes." Nicholas didn’t hide his intention. "I want to hide her identity and keep her safe until I find that skull origami killer."

This time, even Asher became serious. He knew about that serial killer through a news article, but he ignored it. But now that he heard Nicholas saying those words, he had a hunch...

"Is she related to that case somehow?"

"Yes." Nicholas’s voice turned colder when he thought about it. "I’ll send you the information, but in both the murders, the dead had offended Abigail, basically, slapping her face."

Asher, in his office, sat up straight. He didn’t think things were so serious. His eyes narrowed as he asked, "Any leads?"

"None. The murderer just went puff."

"Okay." Asher thought about it for a while and said, "Let’s make a truce until this matter sorts. Her life is more important."

To him, it was more important that she lived rather than his own feelings for her. Asher knew he could chase her later, but right now wasn’t the time. He had to protect her first and he knew he couldn’t do it alone. Even Nicholas couldn’t do it alone.

So, for that, they would have to join hands.

"Okay." Nicholas also agreed with him despite their differences. He didn’t like Asher, sure, but he still acknowledged the man’s abilities. He knew if anyone other than him was capable of protecting Abigail, it was Asher.

But right now, her identity as Mrs. Harrison was dangerous. He needed to get her away without letting her tell a soul about it. He had suspicions about every single person around Abigail.

He took a deep breath and gripped the phone tight. He knew he decided to keep her safe and sound, but why did he feel a trace of reluctance in his heart?

He had never been this reluctant and regretful about the things he did and decisions he ever made. But now, not only he was reluctant, he also wanted to keep the woman by his side, possibly chained up from head to toe so that she couldn’t continue attracting birds and bees.

Damn, his emotions were getting out of hand. Maybe sending her away would also be beneficial for him.
