Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Naomi Kenway, Just How Many Hidden Talents Do You Have?

With a blast of the whistle, all the contestants shot forward with all their might.

Renee Jennings paddled with so much force that a wave of water flew right into Chelsea Raines’s face. Chelsea coughed twice and wiped her face, "What the hell are you doing?!"

Renee Jennings was already a meter ahead.

Naomi Kenway was having the hardest time of all the contestants. Her tiny spoon could only create ripples in the water, but the boat itself remained motionless.

Margaret Jennings and Renee Jennings were the most skilled rowers among the contestants, but the limited tools made it difficult for them too. By now, the other four contestants were nearly neck and neck, while Naomi Kenway had barely moved from her spot by the shore.

"Annie, your mom’s going to lose. She’s rowing so slowly," Jared Woods whispered into Ian Shaw’s ear, gloating.

Ian Shaw pretended he hadn’t heard and turned away slightly.

Jared Woods huffed. "My mom says it’s annoying when kids ignore you!"

Suddenly, Carina Sanders pointed ahead excitedly. "Annie, look! Your mom’s boat is moving!"

It turned out Naomi Kenway had simply tossed the small spoon into the boat and had begun paddling with her hands. Her hands were much larger than the spoon, and the boat began moving forward steadily.

Ian Shaw cupped his hands around his mouth, ran forward two steps, and shouted, "Go, Mom, go!"

Her son had always been introverted, so when Naomi Kenway heard his shout, she immediately turned her head and waved to him.

With her son’s encouragement, Naomi Kenway felt as if she had endless strength. She paddled furiously, and her boat picked up speed.

Her hands ached, but one conviction kept her going. ’I can’t let my son keep suffering with me in that rundown house.’

Renee Jennings heard the splashing behind her and glanced back in disbelief.

’Naomi Kenway is actually catching up!!’

Renee Jennings paddled frantically, but no matter how hard she tried, Naomi Kenway was on the verge of overtaking her. Watching the water splash furiously around Naomi’s boat, Renee froze for a second. ’Why is she going so hard?’

’This won’t do. At this rate, Naomi will definitely overtake me...’

Renee Jennings’s gaze met Chelsea Raines’s. They were so in sync that they instantly knew what the other wanted to do.

Pretending to lose control of their boats, Renee Jennings and Chelsea Raines suddenly steered directly toward Naomi Kenway, aiming to ram her.

Naomi Kenway’s eyes widened, and she quickly tried to back away. But it was as if their boats had eyes, homing in on her.

Margaret Jennings noticed and shouted, "Nina, be careful!"

Naomi Kenway turned her boat and paddled forward with all her might. Fortunately, her decent rowing skills allowed her to dodge in time.

CRASH!

Renee Jennings’s and Chelsea Raines’s wooden boats collided. Renee managed to control her boat, but Chelsea wasn’t so lucky. She lost her balance as her boat capsized, and she plunged straight into the water.

She thrashed about in the water, kept afloat on the lake’s surface by her life jacket. "Help, help!"

The lake wasn’t very deep, but it was still two meters. Staff members quickly fished her out.

Naomi Kenway watched her coldly for a moment. In truth, she knew how to swim a little, but she also knew that if she hadn’t dodged in time, she’d be the one in the water. Naomi had never possessed that kind of accursed pity.

She then shot a sharp look at Renee Jennings, who didn’t dare to meet her gaze.

The plan had failed, so Renee Jennings didn’t dare say anything more and just continued paddling. She felt a moment of guilt, but then she thought, ’It was just an accident. Naomi has no evidence to hold against me.’

Chelsea Raines was merely a little shaken. She soon set off again in her boat.

[That was so close! Nina was almost knocked into the water by Chelsea and Renee!]

[Go easy on them, poster above. It’s Rachel and the others’ first time rowing; it’s normal to be inexperienced. No one wanted an accident to happen.]

[Am I the only one who feels like those two deliberately tried to ram Naomi?]

[You’re just making wild guesses. Figures that someone with a dark mind would only think the worst of people!]

[Now Chelsea Raines has to start all over. Poor thing!]

...

Having lost time earlier, Naomi Kenway didn’t dare delay any further. The race wasn’t that long, and she could already see the flagged finish line.

Suddenly, she felt something was wrong. ’Why is the boat getting heavier and heavier?’ She looked down and saw that a small hole had somehow formed in the boat. Water was pooling at the bottom, making it increasingly difficult to paddle.

Naomi Kenway raised her hand. "This boat is broken!"

A staff member hurried over to check. "Oh my god, how did it get a hole? Ms. Kenway, we’ll get you a new boat right away."

Changing boats would take time, and every contestant except Chelsea Raines had already reached the finish line. An idea struck Naomi Kenway. She leaped into the lake and began to swim, pulling herself forward with powerful strokes.

Swimming was a hobby of Naomi Kenway’s, and it looked like it was finally coming in handy.

"Ms. Kenway!" The staff, afraid Naomi Kenway might be in danger, followed closely behind her.

But their worries seemed to be unnecessary. One look at Naomi Kenway and you could tell she was an expert. Her form was graceful as she sped forward through the water.

Swimming was technically forbidden in the boat race, but considering Naomi Kenway’s terrible luck and the fact that most of the contestants had already finished, the production team turned a blind eye.

Reaching out to grab the edge of the finishing platform, Naomi Kenway was helped up by the staff.

[How much is there that we don’t know about Naomi Kenway? She can even swim, and she’s normally so low-key about it, never showing off!]

[They called the show Supermom, but did the production team actually invite a real superhero?]

[Naomi Kenway must have practiced this for ages, right? She’s so dense, I seriously suspect the production team tipped her off about the challenges ahead of time!]

...

The children on the shore went from initial panic to their current excitement. Carina Sanders said, "Little brother Annie, your mom can swim! That’s so awesome! My mom can’t swim!"

Jared Woods had a blade of grass dangling from his mouth. He spat it out. "Ptooey, ptooey." "...My mom can’t either." He then turned to the person next to him. "Big brother Mona, can your mom?"

"My mom... knows a little."

Ian Shaw lifted his head proudly. His mom was the most amazing mom in the world!

"Naomi Kenway, how are you so fast?" Renee Jennings paused in the middle of making a dumpling, forgetting to add the filling.

Naomi Kenway didn’t bother to answer her, walking straight to an empty station to start making dumplings.

Naomi Kenway was soaked from head to toe, which made Margaret Jennings’s heart ache. She took out a handkerchief to wipe Naomi’s face. "You’re really pushing yourself too hard."

Ruby Preston had also seen the thrilling scene. "As long as you’re okay."

Naomi Kenway gave a brief reply but didn’t dare to delay, hurriedly picking up a dumpling wrapper in front of her.

Five types of fillings were arranged in front of her. Naomi Kenway first used her chopsticks to pick up some of the green pepper and ham filling in the center.

Thanks to the gourmet cooking classes she had taken for Ethan Shaw all those years ago, her movements were completely under her control. For Naomi Kenway, making dumplings was second nature.
