The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 45 - 46: Naomi Kenway, Did You Just Rob a Supermarket?
Renee Jennings’s expression tightened.
’No wonder Nathan Lynch is acting so strange. It’s all Naomi Kenway’s fault!’
’Damn you, Naomi Kenway! You’re deliberately making my life difficult!’
Renee Jennings gritted her teeth in anger. She said, "Naomi Kenway only has one son, Ian Shaw. She doesn’t have time to worry about you!"
Knowing threats wouldn’t work on Nathan Lynch, Renee Jennings switched to playing the victim. "Nathan, no one will love you forever except for your mom and dad. Do you remember that song your teacher taught you, ’Only Mom is Good in this World’? Your teacher wouldn’t lie. Only Mommy treasures you and loves you the most!"
Renee Jennings took out a handkerchief and gently wiped Nathan Lynch’s tears. "This is Mommy’s first time being a mom, too. Of course I’ll do some things wrong. Can you try to understand me, please? When you ignore me, it makes me so sad."
Nathan Lynch’s sobs subsided a little. "Why... why didn’t you buy me water? I was so... thirsty... HIC..."
Renee Jennings coaxed, "Mommy was wrong this time. I didn’t think about your feelings. Please forgive me, okay? Naomi Kenway is the Big Bad Wolf. She’s deliberately trying to sow discord between us. Nathan, I can’t believe you listened to her lies. It makes me so sad..."
As she spoke, tears actually started to well up in her eyes.
A minute later, Renee Jennings returned to the group with Nathan Lynch. He had stopped crying, but his eyes were a little swollen.
Chelsea Raines breathed a sigh of relief. "Is everything sorted out?"
Renee Jennings smiled. "He’s just a kid. A little coaxing is all it takes."
Ruby Preston disagreed. "Just coaxing him all the time won’t work. You can’t let children get too spoiled and willful. What will happen if you just give them whatever they want?"
A helpless look crossed Renee Jennings’s face. "I just don’t have the heart to be strict..."
Chelsea Raines said, "Renee, you’re just too soft."
Chelsea Raines walked over and stared at Nathan Lynch. "Nathan, you need to be more obedient. You’re making your mother worry sick about you."
Nathan Lynch immediately turned his head away.
If Renee Jennings hadn’t been there, Chelsea Raines would have started yelling at him right then and there.
Renee Jennings knew Nathan Lynch was emotionally fragile right now and couldn’t handle being provoked, so she took his hand and led him a little farther away. ’I originally thought Nathan would be obedient and easy to control, but it turns out I’ve brought a ticking time bomb with me.’
The thought of what had just happened left Renee Jennings with a lingering fear. In her mind, she classified Naomi Kenway as a "dangerous element." ’From now on, I can’t let Nathan Lynch and Naomi Kenway spend any time together.’
"Aunt Kenway! Aunt Kenway and little brother Annie are back!!" Carina Sanders shouted excitedly.
Everyone looked into the distance.
But was that really Naomi Kenway and her son, the big and small figures carrying so many bags? Where did they get so many supplies?
Chelsea Raines blinked several times. Even when Naomi Kenway and her son were standing right in front of her, she could hardly believe her eyes.
"Naomi Kenway, did you go and rob a supermarket?!"
Renee Jennings was also dumbfounded. Her own backpack to her right contained all of her food supplies. She was so afraid Naomi Kenway would steal her steamed buns that she had specifically counted them. ’But how did Naomi come back with so much food? Didn’t she squander all her money?’
Naomi Kenway completely ignored Chelsea Raines and smiled. "I’ve got a watermelon here. I’ll cut it up and share it with everyone."
’Carrying such a big watermelon is a hassle anyway. Might as well cut it up and earn some goodwill from the others.’
Naomi Kenway still had the knife she bought at the market. She deftly cut up the watermelon, then called over Ruby Preston and her son, and Margaret Jennings and her daughter.
Jared Woods wanted to go over too, but Chelsea Raines grabbed him. "You are not to go over there! Are you determined to embarrass me, your own mother? It’s not like you’ve never had watermelon before. Why are you so desperate to go begging Naomi Kenway for some?!"
Naomi Kenway picked up a slice of watermelon and walked toward Renee Jennings and her son. Before she even got close, she heard Renee say, "I don’t care for watermelon. Nina, you don’t need to bring me any. You should save it for Annie to eat."
Naomi Kenway raised an eyebrow. "Who said this was for you? Move aside."
Her target was the poor little thing behind Renee Jennings, Nathan Lynch.
The tragic things her own son had gone through often replayed in her mind. As a mother, she couldn’t help but feel a certain sympathy for Nathan Lynch.
Nathan Lynch hesitated, glanced at Renee Jennings, and then quickly shook his head.
Naomi Kenway followed Nathan Lynch’s gaze to Renee Jennings.
Being stared at made Renee Jennings feel flustered. "Ni-Nina, why are you staring at me? I-is there something on my face?"
"It’s nothing." Naomi Kenway didn’t press the issue and turned back to her spot.
Only then did Nathan Lynch lift his head, a hint of reluctance in his eyes as he watched Naomi Kenway. ’Mommy said Aunt Kenway is a big bad wolf who eats children, but why do I feel a little sad now that the big bad wolf is leaving?’
Munching on the crisp, sweet, thirst-quenching watermelon, Margaret Jennings couldn’t help but ask, "Nina, this watermelon and..." She jutted her chin toward the bags in the distance. "Did you buy all this food with money you earned from selling something?" She gave a thumbs-up. "That’s amazing!"
Renee Jennings sat in her spot, but her ears were perked up, listening intently.
Ruby Preston asked, puzzled, "Selling something? What did you sell?"
"Speaking of which, I have to say, Nina is really smart!" Margaret Jennings said with a laugh. "The production crew told us we couldn’t use our own money, but they never said we couldn’t earn money at the market."
"So Nicole sold something at the market?" Ruby Preston said admiringly. "Young people’s minds are so sharp. I really would never have thought of a method like that!"
"Hmph. Her head is just full of opportunistic tricks!"
Chelsea Raines snorted, and Jared Woods, who was next to her, tugged on her clothes. "Mommy, I want to eat watermelon."
Chelsea Raines immediately redirected her fire. "Eat, eat, eat, all you know how to do is eat! Are you determined to embarrass me? Can’t you have a little ambition?"
Jared Woods said pitifully, "I don’t eat ambition. I just want to eat watermelon..."
The watermelon was very large, and Naomi Kenway even shared slices with the tour guide, the director, and the others.
After everyone had finished their watermelon, it was exactly six o’clock.
The tour guide pulled out a tissue, wiped his mouth, and then took out his signature megaphone to shout, "Time’s up! We’re heading deeper into the rainforest!"
The guests quickly packed their backpacks. Since there was no signal in the rainforest, the production crew didn’t collect their cell phones this time.
The group set off majestically into the depths of the rainforest.
Before they left, Naomi Kenway carefully checked again to make sure the cuffs and collar of Ian Shaw’s clothes were tightly fastened, lest he be bitten by a poisonous insect.
The ground was muddy and difficult to walk on, and occasionally snakes and strange-looking insects would crawl by. Chelsea Raines screamed the entire way. She was forced to change out of her high heels and put on a jacket.
The tour guide seemed to have done his homework beforehand. At every place they passed, he would make a point of explaining some interesting facts, especially about certain poisonous plants.
