The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 317: You Are Not My Mother
Misty Cross sighed. "I wish it were just a misunderstanding, too. But Nathan did throw the first punch. He hit the director’s nephew, Patrick Morgan. Patrick was pushed to the ground, got a bump on his head, and had a nosebleed. Now Patrick’s parents are in the director’s office demanding an explanation."
"Speaking of why they fought..." Misty Cross glanced at Renee Jennings and said cautiously, "It was because of Nathan’s mother, Ms. Vance."
Renee Jennings’s vision swam as fury boiled up inside her. ’It was bad enough that Nathan Lynch caused trouble for me by hitting the director’s nephew, but to think he did it because of Victor Vance!’
Renee Jennings said fiercely, "Where is he? I’m going to give him a good beating."
"Please, calm down. Maybe the child was just acting on impulse."
Pushing open the door to the director’s office, she saw the director and a couple fussing over a small child with a bandaged head.
Meanwhile, Nathan Lynch was standing in the corner as punishment, his head lowered, lost in thought. When he heard the noise, he looked up. His expression was calm when he saw Renee Jennings, and he simply said, "Ms. Cross."
Overcome with anger, Renee Jennings raised her hand to slap Nathan Lynch, but Misty Cross stopped her. "Don’t be rash, Nathan’s mom..."
Renee Jennings scolded, "Why are you so disobedient? Do you have violent tendencies or something, hitting people just like that? Look at that boy, his head is wrapped in bandages! How can you be so vicious at such a young age?!"
A faint bruise was visible on Nathan Lynch’s cheek, particularly noticeable against his fair skin. He turned his head away. "He insulted my mom first. I wasn’t wrong to hit him!"
Misty Cross watched all this, a bit stunned. She had originally thought Renee Jennings was a kind and gentle stepmother. But now, seeing Renee’s agitated and resentful behavior, it seemed she held more of a grudge against Nathan Lynch than Patrick Morgan’s own family.
"And you think you were justified in hitting someone?!" Renee Jennings gave Nathan Lynch a shove. Knowing this wouldn’t be resolved easily, she turned to Patrick Morgan’s parents and said placatingly, "This is all our Nathan’s fault. He was too impulsive. How about this: I’ll cover all the medical expenses, and I’ll compensate you for emotional distress as well..." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Patrick Morgan’s mother, exquisitely dressed and clutching a limited-edition designer handbag, retorted, "We don’t want your money. We can afford to send our son to a prestigious kindergarten; do you think we’re some poor, struggling family? I remember now, you’re celebrities. You put on a good act on screen, but who would’ve thought the child you raised would be an out-and-out maniac? My son made a couple of jokes and got pinned to the ground. Just look at the bump on his head!"
Renee Jennings grew even more embarrassed at having her identity called out. She quickly agreed, "Yes, yes, you’re right. It was all Nathan’s fault for being so impulsive. I’ll be sure to teach him a good lesson when we get home."
Ordinarily, Renee Jennings would never have been so deferential. Nathan Lynch attended a famous, prestigious kindergarten in Veridia, and the children there were all from either wealthy or powerful families. In other words, when there were no direct interests at stake, Renee didn’t want to go around making enemies.
"Our demands aren’t unreasonable. Your son is very stubborn. Just have him apologize to my son, and that will be the end of it."
Hearing that only an apology was needed, Renee Jennings quickly called Nathan over. When he didn’t respond, she walked up to him. "Didn’t you hear Mommy talking to you?"
"You’re not my mom."
"Wh-what did you say?"
"My mom wouldn’t make me apologize without figuring out who was right and who was wrong." Nathan Lynch spoke clearly. Renee Jennings had forced him to learn a great deal, and his eloquence and demeanor were far beyond those of other children his age.
Hearing him bring up Victor Vance again, Renee Jennings couldn’t help but rage, "Why are you so disobedient? How can there be such a naughty, stubborn brat like you in this world?! You do something wrong and you can’t even apologize? You’re brave enough to do it, but not brave enough to admit it?"
Nathan Lynch was precocious, but he was still a child. He was thin-skinned, and hearing Renee Jennings berate him like that, his eyes instantly reddened.
"Don’t be rash, don’t be rash!" Misty Cross couldn’t help but pull Nathan Lynch behind her protectively.
Patrick Morgan’s parents insisted on an explanation, but Nathan Lynch refused to apologize. Renee Jennings tried everything she could think of, but nothing worked. Her head was about to split from the pain.
This continued until Nathaniel Lynch rushed over. He made a call to his eldest brother in the Lynch family. After a brief conversation, the two parties shook hands and made peace.
Patrick Morgan’s father held his son and said, "Your kid is completely out of line. He hit someone and won’t even say sorry."
Nathaniel Lynch shot Nathan a glare.
「Back at home」
Nathaniel Lynch had a maid bring him a feather duster. He raised it angrily. "Today, I’m going to teach you a lesson you won’t forget!"
Renee Jennings said with false sincerity, "You can’t do that, Nathaniel! Nathan is just a child..."
Nathan Lynch stared at him coldly, not saying a word.
"Fine, you little brat! So that’s how you look at your own father, huh? You ungrateful whelp! I didn’t bring you into this world just for you to piss me off to death! I’ll beat you to death today, and pretend I never had a son like you!"
Nathaniel Lynch was in a blind rage. Before he could bring the duster down, he heard a sharp voice cry out, "Nathaniel Lynch, what do you think you’re doing?!!"
Startled by the voice, the feather duster in Nathaniel Lynch’s hand fell to the floor.
Sophia Zobel appeared, supported by a maid, and stormed over menacingly.
"Mom, what are you doing here...?" He was extremely filial. In front of Sophia Zobel, he instantly transformed back into a dutiful, obedient son.
Nathan Lynch threw himself into Sophia Zobel’s arms. "Grandma..."
"Oh, my dear grandson..." Sophia Zobel’s rough fingers gently patted Nathan Lynch’s back. "It’s all Grandma’s fault for being late."
She looked down and saw the bruise on Nathan Lynch’s face, and her anger flared. "Which damn bastard hit my grandson?!"
Seeing Sophia Zobel’s gaze fall on her, Renee Jennings quickly waved her hands in denial. "N-no, it wasn’t me!"
She instinctively shrank back. The full-force slap Sophia Zobel had given her before had left a psychological scar.
Even so, Sophia Zobel still strode forward and, quick as lightning, slapped her across the face.
"If it wasn’t you, then why are you hiding?! I’d say you have a guilty conscience!" The more she looked at Renee Jennings, the angrier she got. "You have such a timid, petty air about you. I really don’t know how my son could have been so blind as to marry you! It’s bad enough you can’t even get pregnant, but you also let my dear grandson’s tender little face get bruised. Tell me, don’t you deserve a beating?!"
Renee Jennings clutched her cheek, staring in disbelief at Nathaniel Lynch, who stood by as if it had nothing to do with him. A bitter feeling welled up in her heart. "You’re right."
"If the nanny hadn’t secretly called to tell me, I bet you were going to beat my grandson to death!" Sophia Zobel glared at Nathaniel Lynch. She was old, and though she doted on her son, her affection for her grandson bordered on spoiling him rotten.
Sophia Zobel looked at the bruise on Nathan Lynch’s face, her heart aching with pity. She quickly called for someone to treat his injury.
"Mom, please let me explain..." Nathaniel Lynch said. "I had a reason for wanting to hit him. He’s been misbehaving at kindergarten—he actually hit a classmate!"
