Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Sleeping in One Bed

Ian Shaw looked taken aback for a moment, then said pitifully, "I don’t want to sleep in the little bed. I want Mommy to tell me a story."

Ethan Shaw’s expression grew a bit sterner, but his voice remained gentle. "Ian, you’re a little man, aren’t you? Daddy believes a little man can certainly sleep by himself, right? Besides, even if you sleep in the little bed, Mommy and Daddy can still tell you a story."

Ian Shaw’s big eyes blinked, welling up with tears. He shook his head. "But I’m scared to sleep in the little bed. It gets so dark here at night, and there’s no light. How about you sleep in the little bed, Daddy? You’re so brave..."

Ethan Shaw glanced at the one-meter-long cot in the distance, feeling both amused and exasperated.

[I wonder if Ian is saying that on purpose. I’m dying! There’s no way his dad can fit in that bed! It’s more than big enough for Ian, though.]

[It’s normal for kids to be scared in a new place. I think they should just let him sleep in the big bed to keep him from getting a fright.]

[How did they randomly start fighting? Hahaha.]

[All of you, stop fighting! I’ll come sleep with Nina!]

...

Naomi Kenway had tried to bring a dimmable night light with her, but the production crew had confiscated it.

Seeing Ian Shaw’s reddened eyes, her heart instinctively clenched. She couldn’t bear to see Ian cry. But what Ethan Shaw said was true; Ian really did need to be more independent, so she hesitated.

The debate nearby was still going. Listening to the father and son stubbornly arguing their points, Naomi Kenway felt a real headache coming on. If she could fit in the small cot, she would have gladly taken it herself, leaving the big bed to the two of them just to end the dispute.

"Since you’re afraid of the dark, why not use this chance to overcome it? Daddy will be right next to you."

Ian’s small, childish voice held a hint of a sob. "I’m so scared..."

Ian Shaw’s crying was truly heart-wrenching. Naomi Kenway pulled him into her arms, took out a handkerchief to wipe away his tears, and sighed. "Don’t cry, Ian."

She then turned to Ethan Shaw. "I’ve been thinking, let’s just have Ian sleep with us tonight. This is a strange environment for him, and children don’t adapt as well as adults. The bed isn’t very big, but I’m sure we can manage if we squeeze in."

Ian kicked off his slippers and used a stool to climb onto the bed. His gloomy expression vanished in an instant as he crawled to the far side of Naomi Kenway, pressing his chubby little face against her shoulder.

"I want to be next to Mommy!" Ian declared.

"No," Ethan Shaw’s voice rang out at the same time.

Seeing that round two of the battle was about to begin, Naomi Kenway, who had been on the outer edge, quickly pulled Ian close and scooted further in. Now, she was in the middle, with Ian on the far inside and the outer edge left for Ethan Shaw.

"No more arguing. Now we can all get some sleep."

[The sleeping arrangements are finally settled. I’m dying, hahaha.]

[Looks like the three of them can just about fit, as long as President Shaw doesn’t accidentally roll onto the floor in the middle of the night.]

[I’m dead. Ian’s mood changes on a dime. He stopped crying in the blink of an eye and ran over to his mom for cuddles.]

[My kid is the same. He’s three and a half. He used to always sleep with my husband and me. We just bought a bigger house and set up a separate room for him, but he cried and made a huge fuss, just like when he started preschool. He’s been sleeping in his own room for a week now, and he’s gotten used to it, so he doesn’t cry anymore. Compared to him, Ian is such an emotionally stable child. When our kid throws a tantrum, he acts like he’s going to tear the house down.]

[They’re going back to Veridia tomorrow, right? This installment is over in the blink of an eye.]

...

A staff member spoke softly, "Our time is up. We won’t disturb you any longer. Sweet dreams."

With that, the cameramen packed up their equipment, wiped the sweat from their brows, and walked out, shouldering their cameras.

Naomi Kenway said, "Thanks for your hard work. You all get some good rest."

Ethan Shaw followed them out and locked the door.

With the cameras gone, Naomi Kenway relaxed considerably. Recalling the recent events, she was both amused and exasperated. "Come on, get in bed. Honestly, you two... spending so much time arguing about sleeping arrangements."

Ethan Shaw, dressed in his pajamas, got into bed. He glanced at Ian, who was curled up beside Naomi Kenway, and let out a sigh.

’More than being scared of the dark,’ he thought, ’it’s probably that Ian just doesn’t want to leave Naomi’s side.’ Children his age always seemed to have a natural dependency on their parents. Ethan could bring himself to be firm and say no, but it was harder for Naomi. As long as no major principles were at stake, Naomi doted on Ian Shaw completely—she would give him the stars if he asked for them.

’But this can’t go on forever...’

Due to their geographical location, night fell very late here, and they could clearly see the sky slowly darkening outside the window. Ethan Shaw’s mind was still sharp. Not having a pile of files to process, he actually felt a bit out of sorts. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"What is it? Can’t sleep?" Naomi Kenway asked from beside him.

Ethan Shaw chuckled. "It’s rare to have this much downtime. I’m not used to it. It feels a little surreal."

"Has your job completely brainwashed you?" Naomi Kenway teased. "The key is to enjoy life."

Ethan Shaw took her hand and murmured, "Maybe so. The company’s been busy expanding into the pharmaceutical R&D sector. Once this period is over, I’ll be able to properly spend time with you and Ian."

Naomi Kenway nodded.

The sound of steady breathing reached them. Naomi Kenway turned her head and saw that Ian had fallen asleep. He was sleeping on his side, his long eyelashes resting against his eyelids. His round cheeks looked incredibly soft and squishy, and his little hand was still unconsciously gripping her arm.

"He fell asleep so fast..." Naomi Kenway felt her heart melting. She lowered her voice, afraid of waking Ian, her heart overflowing with adoration. ’How can my son be this cute...’

The night had grown much cooler. Naomi Kenway gently adjusted his sleeping position and checked to make sure Ian was tucked in properly.

After doing all that, Naomi Kenway said to Ethan Shaw, "Ian’s asleep. Let’s turn off the light and go to sleep."

Ethan Shaw nodded.

The room went pitch-black, but Naomi Kenway didn’t fall asleep right away. There was only one blanket on the bed, forcing her and Ethan Shaw to share it. Although it was called a large bed, it wasn’t actually that spacious. It was a comfortable size for two, but a tight squeeze for three. She had no room to stretch her limbs, and the slightest movement brought her into contact with Ethan Shaw’s body.

It was the only blanket in the room; the one on the cot was too small to be of any use.

Naomi Kenway closed her eyes, the only sound in the room the faint, steady rhythm of Ian’s breathing.

Naomi Kenway shifted slightly, wanting to turn onto her side. But the moment she moved, she felt a burning-hot chest press against her back. She froze, immediately returning to her original position.
