Chapter 300: Chapter 300: Wanting to Kneel for President Shaw on the Spot

"Really...?" Naomi Kenway froze as she looked up, because she saw the clear concern in Ethan Shaw’s eyes. For a split second, her heartbeat seemed to slow.

Ethan Shaw set Ian down on the ground. "You two wait here for me."

Afraid of being separated from her son by the crowd, Naomi quickly grabbed Ian’s hand. When she turned her head again, she could only see Ethan’s back. "Where are you going...?"

In the blink of an eye, Ethan Shaw had vanished.

Naomi felt a surge of anxiety. Recalling what he had said, she waited by the side of the road with Ian. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

About three minutes later, Ethan returned, and Naomi instantly let out a sigh of relief.

Ian asked, "Daddy! Daddy, where did you go?"

Ethan Shaw handed a wrapped skewer of candied hawthorn to Naomi. "Here."

Still in a daze, Naomi took it. "You just went to...?" A belated thought struck her, and her expression grew anxious. "How did you buy the candied hawthorn? I have all the money."

Ethan Shaw tilted his head slightly, his handsome features even more striking in the sunlight.

"Do you like it?"

Holding the skewer of candied hawthorn, Naomi unwrapped it. It was the exact one she had been staring at earlier. The sweet and sour hawthorn berries were a taste of her childhood.

"I... like it, but first, tell me how you got this," Naomi said, concerned.

Ethan Shaw couldn’t help but laugh. "Look how nervous you are. Worried I was going to get beaten up? Relax, I didn’t steal or snatch it. A smart girl like Nina should be able to figure it out with a guess."

Naomi composed herself. "The production team took all your cards. Did you trade something for it? But they took your expensive accessories, too..." She frowned slightly.

Ethan Shaw reached out and touched her cheek, his voice gentle. "Nina, don’t frown. I traded a business plan for it. I told him how to expand his candied hawthorn business."

Naomi immediately broke into a smile. "So that’s what happened. Our President Shaw really is incredible. It looks like as long as you’re around, we’ll never go hungry."

"So, do you like the candied hawthorn now?"

"...Yes, I like it. Thank you, Ethan Shaw."

[Sobbing... I’m shipping them so hard!]

[A partner who’s emotionally stable and perceptive of your feelings is an absolute godsend!]

[He traded a business plan for it? HAHAHAHAHAHA! Just like Nina said, as long as our President Shaw has his brain, he’ll never starve.]

[I was just watching President Shaw’s stream. He only chatted with the vendor for a bit and came up with the perfect plan. His analysis was so precise and hit the nail on the head. The vendor looked so full of admiration, he looked like he wanted to kowtow to President Shaw right then and there!]

[Forget the vendor, *I* wanted to kowtow after watching that! When I heard from Nina that President Shaw ran his family’s company, I thought he was just some rich kid living off his family’s money. I never expected this—that mind, that charisma... he’s a natural-born leader!]

[I agree. As a corporate drone myself, I get inexplicably intimidated just looking at President Shaw. It’s that aura of authority you only see in a leader.]

[The "Nina" he used... is that a pet name for our Nina? So sweet for a married couple!]

[Probably. And our Nina should stop calling him by his full name, Ethan Shaw. Time for a more intimate name!]

[I’m shipping this so hard! Everyone, get on this ship! Real couples are the best! I hereby declare Rhys Quinn can step aside!]

...

Naomi Kenway had been to the market many times, so she was a natural at grocery shopping. The only thing that gave her a headache was the occasional language barrier, as many locals spoke in dialect. Fortunately, with the help of several kind people, they managed to finish their shopping.

Prices at the market were low. Naomi bought beef and lamb by weight, along with plenty of vegetables. The local grapes and melons were also a bargain, so she bought some of those as well.

With their last three yuan, and since the weather was hot, Naomi bought everyone an ice cream bar. They left the market, laden with their purchases, and headed home.

Naomi had deliberately worn a pair of comfortable sneakers today, but perhaps from all the walking, her calves began to feel sore. She stopped, bent over to rub them, and let out a soft hiss of discomfort.

Ethan Shaw stopped. "What’s wrong? Do your feet hurt?"

"No, my calves are just suddenly sore. I’ve probably been slacking on my workouts, so my body isn’t used to such a long walk all at once."

Naomi leaned against a nearby lamppost. "I’ll be fine after a quick rest."

Ian was no longer being carried by Ethan Shaw; having recovered his energy, he had insisted on walking himself. Hearing his mother, he walked over to her and asked worriedly, "Does it hurt a lot, Mommy?"

"Mommy’s fine, it doesn’t hurt." Naomi rubbed her calves and gave Ian a reassuring smile.

Just as Naomi straightened up, she was swept off her feet. She hastily wrapped her arms around Ethan Shaw’s neck.

"You’ve exerted more energy than I have. Put me down, I’m already feeling much better."

Ethan Shaw simply glanced back at Ian and tipped his chin. "Son, keep up."

Ian got the message and hurried to keep up, his little legs pumping.

As they entered the gate, they saw Ruby Preston getting water in the courtyard. She saw them and rushed over, taking the grocery bags from Ethan Shaw. "Let me get those for you. What happened? Nicole, are you all right?"

Naomi shook her head, but as she tried to get down, Ethan held her waist even tighter. He gave Director Preston a warm smile. "Thank you, Director Preston. My wife isn’t feeling well. Would you mind taking these groceries to the second floor for us?"

Ruby Preston nodded cheerfully. "Of course! It’s no trouble at all. I’ll take them right up!"

Meanwhile, Renee Jennings and Nathaniel were sitting in the courtyard sorting vegetables. Seeing the scene, she sneered to herself. ’What a show-off.’

Renee glanced down and noticed two bunches of perfectly good greens in the trash can beside them. As she picked them out, she said, "Nathaniel, why did you throw out good vegetables again? We didn’t earn much today. We have to be frugal."

Nathaniel slapped her hand away in disgust, instinctively scolding her, "What are you doing? That’s disgusting..."

He caught himself and quickly explained, "I was careless, I admit. But those were already in the trash. How can you just pick them out again?"

Pained by the waste, Renee picked the vegetables up from the floor. "What’s the big deal? It’s a fresh trash bag in the can; it’s not dirty. We only bought a few vegetables, and we have to stretch them for two meals. With three mouths to feed, how can we not be thrifty?"

A vein throbbed in Nathaniel’s forehead; he was on the verge of losing his temper.

’When they first met, he’d thought Renee’s frugality was a good thing. She had few material desires, a good woman who understood the value of being thrifty. But looking at her now, he just found her petty and small-minded. Fishing a few vegetables out of the trash... she was utterly humiliating him.’

’His mind involuntarily drifted to the stunningly beautiful lead actress from his last series—her sweet smile, her natural, graceful way of doing things.’
