The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 25: Naomi Kenway, what are you trying to do to my son?
Nathan Lynch’s eyes lit up, and he hurried to retrieve the shovel.
[Is Naomi Kenway really that nice? She’s not plotting something, is she? I’m still skeptical about her character.]
[Here’s a wild theory: is Naomi Kenway planning to teach Mona to mess with Rachel so she can come in first?]
[You guys have some wild imaginations. You should be screenwriters. Naomi Kenway’s attitude is clearly so gentle, way better than Renee Jennings’s negligence! If you ask me, the irresponsible one isn’t Naomi, it’s Renee. Her son’s been gone this long and she hasn’t even come looking for him. How can she be so chill about it? I’m a mother too, and if that were me, I’d be running around in a panic by now!]
[Some people just have dirty minds, so they see dirt everywhere.]
[What’s with all of Naomi Kenway’s shills? Her team must have paid for them, right? But I gotta say, Naomi’s acting is actually incredible. If she’d had these skills before, she would’ve swept every major award in the industry!]
...
Naomi Kenway looked serious as she demonstrated for Nathan Lynch a few times.
Nathan Lynch tried it once. When he realized he still couldn’t do it right, his eyes welled up. "I’m so useless! Why can’t I learn how to do this?"
Startled, Naomi Kenway quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe his tears. "You’re just a little kid. Why are you so hard on yourself?"
"If I can’t do things well... no one will like me..." Nathan Lynch sobbed.
Naomi Kenway was taken aback. ’She wondered who could have instilled such a twisted way of thinking in Nathan Lynch.’
"That’s not true. Mona, you’re smart and adorable. How could anyone not like you?"
Nathan Lynch just shook his head. "But I just can’t do it right..."
"Listen to me, Mona. You’re already doing great. When I first tried this, I was so clumsy. It took me more than ten tries before I got the hang of it."
Nathan Lynch’s hiccups subsided, and he stared at her blankly. "You were so clumsy..."
Naomi Kenway wasn’t the least bit put off by the child’s bluntness. "No one is born knowing how to do everything. That’s why we have to keep learning. Do you still think you’re a dunce?"
"No more."
"Come on, pick up the shovel. Let’s try again, okay?"
With a calmer mindset, Nathan Lynch learned how to dig potatoes in no time.
"Aunt Kenway, can I help you?"
Naomi Kenway had taught him how to dig potatoes, and he wanted to repay her. His teacher had said that one must know how to show gratitude.
[I finally see Naomi Kenway’s endgame! She just wanted Mona to help her dig potatoes. She can’t bear for her own son to suffer, so she’s making someone else’s kid do the work. And poor Rachel is completely clueless.]
[The one to feel sorry for isn’t Rachel, it’s Mona. He’s just a kid who can’t tell good guys from bad guys. He’s being tricked into being free labor.]
[I was wondering why Naomi would waste her own potato-digging time to teach Mona. Turns out she’d planned this move all along. Was giving him water earlier part of the scheme, too? My bad, I’ll never call Naomi stupid again. She’s as cunning as a fox!]
[Why are netizens so obsessed with conspiracy theories? Are you guys mind-readers now? Acting like you know exactly what Naomi’s thinking.]
[Ooh, look, Naomi’s shills are getting defensive! Just keep watching, and you’ll see if we’re right or not.]
...
Before the show, Naomi Kenway’s reputation was atrocious. Her anti-fans outnumbered her fans by more than tenfold. They were convinced she was just putting on an act, and any fan or neutral viewer who defended her would be attacked and labeled a "shill."
Naomi Kenway was oblivious to the comments in the live chat, not that she cared. She was so wealthy that it didn’t matter whether she made it in the entertainment industry. What she truly wanted was to mend the relationship with her son, and she was slowly making that happen.
"That’s okay." Naomi Kenway refused Nathan Lynch’s offer outright. She wasn’t thinking that far ahead; she just felt it wouldn’t be right to have a child help her dig potatoes under the hot sun.
"But I..." Nathan Lynch licked his dry lips.
"Are you thirsty again?" Naomi Kenway offered him the water bottle. "Here..."
"Naomi Kenway!!"
A figure came charging over like a whirlwind. The newcomer rushed forward and slapped the water bottle out of Naomi Kenway’s hand, sending it to the ground.
Renee Jennings shielded Nathan Lynch behind her, her eyes blazing with fury. "What are you trying to do to my son? What’s your real goal? Why did you go to all this trouble to lure my son over here? And..."
Renee Jennings pointed at the water bottle on the ground. "Did you put something in there?"
Renee Jennings had been searching for Nathan Lynch for a long time and was frantic with worry. He had disappeared right under her nose, and she could only imagine how long the netizens would criticize her for it. The moment she saw Naomi Kenway, everything clicked into place for her. ’This is all Naomi Kenway’s fault!’
Naomi Kenway pulled back her hand and rose to her feet. Tall and slender, she looked far more imposing than the petite Renee Jennings.
"Are you a rabid dog, just biting anyone you see? Where exactly did you see me ’lure’ your son over here?"
"My son was playing perfectly fine in his own field," Renee Jennings bit out. "Why would he suddenly run over to your plot?"
Naomi almost laughed in exasperation. "And why couldn’t he come over? Or are you saying you forbade him from coming here?"
"I..." For a split second, Renee Jennings felt a pang of guilt, but she concealed it well. "Don’t change the subject! If I had known what kind of person you are, I would’ve kept a closer eye on my son!"
Renee Jennings crouched down, cupping his face as if he were the most precious thing in the world. "Mona, let Mommy take a look. Are you hurt? Did she mistreat you?"
’I should just play along like I always do,’ Nathan Lynch thought, feeling conflicted. But when he remembered how kind Naomi Kenway had just been, a wave of guilt washed over him.
"Mama, it wasn’t Aunt Kenway. It’s my fault. I came here on my own. Aunt Kenway is really nice! She gave me water and even taught me how to dig potatoes! I thought that after I learned, I could go back and help you!"
Renee Jennings stared at him in disbelief. "Mona, you’re taking an outsider’s side against me?"
Nathan Lynch hung his head, his voice barely a whisper. "My teacher said that good kids don’t lie."
"Do you get it now?" Naomi scoffed. "You acted so worried about me earlier. I had no idea you actually had such a problem with me."
"I..." Renee Jennings’s expression flickered through several emotions before she instantly adopted a sincere attitude. "I’m so sorry, Nina. Mona got lost once when he was three, so I’m terrified of him suddenly disappearing on me. I got too emotional and caused you trouble, Nina. I’m truly sorry!"
She punctuated her words with a deep bow, leaving no room for anyone to find fault.
Naomi let out a cold laugh. "If you care so much about Mona, you should be watching him properly, not letting him wander around alone under the hot sun. He was lucky it was me he ran into. If he’d met someone with bad intentions, who knows what might have happened."
Her gaze bored into Renee. "Don’t you agree?"
