The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 27 - . Library doors
Chapter 27: 27. Library doors
"Can he move?" Jael asked with a straight face.
Mack shook his head, "No, he is still in a terrible state."
"I see, you may return to your chambers."
"Thank you, my Lord." Mack returned and bowed his head twice before rushing away.
Jael turned on his heel and headed back in the direction he came from. He got to the front of the library in no time and glanced toward the door. He could tell without checking that she was still in there.
He went past the library to the stairs, the floor he was headed to was the one directly above the library. He sped up the stairs that led to the floor. He went past the first room and the second room, he stopped in front of the third room and pushed the door open.
The room was dimly lit with thick curtains covering every atom of light that could have made its way into the room, only one candle was lit in the corner of the room. It wasn't enough to shed light in the room but Jael didn't need the help. He could see just fine.
Three beds were laid side by side, there was space between the three beds to allow movement. Except for the three beds, two tables, and a wardrobe that stood at the edge of the room, the room was mostly empty.
On the middle bed laid Danag. He made to stand as soon as Jael walked into the room.

"Don't," Jael ordered and walked to the side of the bed.
He stopped and just sat upright on the bed. "My Lord, you did not have to come to see me, especially so late."
"You still look a mess," Jael said.
Danag slowly brought his hand to his face, touching his burnt face. The burns were mostly around his nose, cheeks, chin, and neck. His wrist and the back of his hands were also severely burnt.
Danag bowed his head, "I apologize for putting the princess in such danger, I did not anticipate a paler outrunning the carriage so quickly."
"You had tired horses, it is expected."
"We almost lost Damon because of me," they simultaneously turned to look at Damon who was lying on the right side. He was sprawled on the bed and even in the dark, he still looked very pale, more than normal. He was white as a sheet.
"Paler's venom. But you did not, Danag. I will hear your excuses later and get some rest. You need it. By the extent of your wounds, you still need another five days to properly heal. We can have a proper conversation then, hopefully with the two of them. I don't want to see your face again until it is presentable."
"Thank you, you are most merciful."
Jael did not reply, he just made his way out of the room. He kept walking as his mind churned. He shouldn't have come here, he should have waited. Seeing Danag's burns had thrown him back to when he had found his parents' dead bodies after being torn apart.
If the situation had still been the same, there was no doubt that none of them would have survived this. Not from the Paler's attack and certainly not from that amount of sunburns. Even though conniving with humans made his skin crawl, he would pick that every day over his kinsmen dying at the hands of such low-level creatures. Now that there was some sort of peace the blood should be of better quality.
He grabbed his head, the headache was killing him but this couldn't just be from the lack of sleep. His throat felt drier than normal, he winced in pain, and he could not remember the last time he had fed.
He got to the end of the stairs and heard the library door open, he froze. There was no way he would be able to pass her without incident. The wind brought her scent to him and his underwear suddenly felt tighter. Jael swore, he must be quite starved considering he had no control over his body.
He took a step forward and heard the library close. He saw her standing in front of it with her back to him. Her hair was to the side and he had a clear view of her neck. He felt his fangs engorge.
Jael gripped the wall and swore, something was terribly wrong. He was losing control, he had not had any satisfaction in weeks. Jevera was throwing a tantrum as a way to punish him. He wasn't the type to ask, he was used to her coming to him.
"Jael," her soft voice broke through his thoughts. "Is that you?"
He took his hands off the wall and stepped forward into the light. "Yes," he responded.
Her face broke into a smile, "I thought you went to bed."
He frowned, she was talking to him casually. "I had an errand to run. You should go to sleep." He was certain he had freaked her out.
"Yes, that is what I want to do."
She walked forward and stepped on her dress. She fell forward like a plank of wood. Jael moved without thinking and used his body to support her. She landed on his chest with a soft thud.
Jael looked down and her flushed neck looked back at him. She jumped away. "I am so sorry," she called out, bowing her head.
Jael closed his eyes. "It is fine," he managed to say, it was hard to talk with his fangs in his mouth. He was glad it was dark, she would not like the look in his eyes.
"Also, I am sorry I said vampires crawled out of hell." She kept her head bent as she spoke and wouldn't meet his gaze.
"You know, maybe we did." He closed the gap between them.
Mauve raised her head to look at him with flushed cheeks. She did not take a step back but he could hear the loud beating of her chest. Her lips parted as she tried to take a breath in and without realizing it his head bent down to take her lips.
