The Vampire King's Pet-Chapter 322: Reason
Aira was mad!
It had been a while since she had felt such intense emotions. It was chaotic simply to feel it as she stared at her mother, who had calmed down but now had a vastly numb look on her face.
Almost like nothing mattered.
Do you... do you care about anyone but yourself? Aira asked, trying to understand that the woman in front of her was not just an empty shell.
Trying to find something to prove that she wasn’t as heartless as she looked. That it was what Lord Dangrey did to her that made her appear that way.
But the harder she looked, the less she saw as she stood beside the bed, staring at her mother with blatant anger.
"I cared about Lord Dangrey," Selira, her mother, coldly responded, even as Aira instantly turned around and walked out of the room.
Aware that if she remained there, they would fight, and she wasn’t the one that was going to get hurt.
Getting out of the room and closing the door behind her, ignoring the guards by the door, even as she took a couple of steps to the side to catch her breath.
Her anger was still blatantly written on her face, even as she did her best to stem it.
Taking a deep breath in, she called for a guard before giving him orders to summon her sister. Thinking that if she could not speak to her mother and get through to her, then Liora might have a better chance.
Her gaze was dark, even as she did her best to remind herself that her mother was under Lord Dangrey’s control.
She would never do such a thing! She’s not that cold! she thought, even as tears filled her eyes the longer she thought of it in her head.
She pretended not to be, but she was furious, even as she waited outside for her sister to arrive, not wanting to go back inside by herself.
But surprisingly, her sister, whom she thought would soon appear since where she lived wasn’t too far away from the castle, took much longer than she thought.
So much so that Aira began to consider heading over to her place to get her herself.
But the thought had only just occurred to her when finally Liora appeared, climbing up the stairs with apparent distress and with an extremely pale face.
"Are you okay? You look exceedingly pale," Aira pointed out, worried, considering how her sister looked.
It was clear that she was somewhat suffering from something.
"Are you sick or..." but Liora was already shaking her head. "I just need to rest in my home," Liora said, knowing how hard it had been to get through the humans she passed without clawing their throats out.
Being in the carriage didn’t help. If it were not that it was their mother, she wouldn’t even have stepped out, even if the king summoned them as she headed up the stairs, ignoring Aira.
She, more than anyone else, was aware of how precarious her situation was. Enough that it would take only one thing to take her off the edge.
Something that terrified her as she glanced at Aira, who appeared even more worried than when she first saw her, as she steadily stared at her face.
"Don’t worry!" Liora spoke again, assuring her.
"I’m fine!" She promised her with a smile on her lips, even as Aira nodded her head while speaking to Liora as they headed back into the room.
"I think mother is delirious. She’s meant to be fine now that Lord Dangrey is dead, but she’s not. She’s saying things that..." Aira said, not knowing how much better to explain it.
But Liora, instead of asking Aira to further explain, simply followed her straight into the room. Relieved to see their mother, even as they entered, considering the terms under which they parted.
"Mother!" Liora gasped, even as she moved to stand by the bed. Her first thought had been to hug her, only to flinch back, aware that if she did, she would instantly attack her and drink her blood.
She wouldn’t be able to help it, even if she could.
"Mother! You remember me, right?" Liora asked, relieved when Selira slowly nodded her head with clear recognition in her eyes.
Her eyes lighting up with a faint smile. "You’re my daughter! I thought I lost you!" Selira said before glancing at Aira with a more heated gaze.
"...you’ve done nothing wrong, unlike Aira!" She said, which made Liora frown as she spoke again. "Do you remember our brother Eiran and father?" Liora softly asked, only for the woman on the bed to finally snap.
"Can you both please just stop!" She snapped in anger, eyes furious.
"My master and lord is dead, and you keep bringing up figments of my past that I’d rather not remember!" She said, and Liora visibly shook.
Unlike Aira, who had curtailed her anger, Liora’s anger was explosive as she snapped right back.
"Mother! I refuse to believe that you are mad!" Which was the only reason Liora felt she would speak that way about their brother and father.
"Clearly you are still ill and..." but Selira didn’t let her finish.
"I already told Aira! The only person I care about is my Lord and master, who she killed! No one else!" Selira said in a heated manner.
"No one else mattered, not even myself!" She said as tears filled her eyes, even as she began to wail. "I never asked you for freedom! I like where I’m at! I liked being a slave! I loved my master!"
But barely had the words left her mouth when Liora attacked.
She was already bleeding from her palm, which she had heavily bandaged, and summoning blood to materialize and attack in mid-air was the easiest thing.
Liora’s aim wasn’t even off. It was right on point. The projectiles aimed directly at Selira, even as Aira screamed in alarm and shock.
Not having expected it and being too late to stop it from happening.
Liora herself had simply considered it, stunned when she realized what she had actually done, as one of the projectiles she shot embedded itself in her mother’s shoulder, and she cried out in pain.
