The Useless Heiress Is Actually A Bigshot-Chapter 272 - Evidence
Chapter 272: Chapter 272 Evidence
Chapter 272 -272 Evidence
Zhong Nianyao’s interrogation made it impossible for Father Ling and Mrs. Ling to utter any words in their defense.
They were unwilling to believe Zhong Nianyao’s words or to accept that their son was a murderer. However, deep down, they felt that everything Zhong Nianyao said was true.
Chu Xu, who was nearby, was completely baffled. Previously, he had only thought that Ling Chao was a selfish person, but now it appeared that Ling Chao was shockingly ruthless.
He didn’t think Zhong Nianyao was lying at all, as there was no need for her to. Aside from the prior incident involving the pen spirit, Ling Chao and Zhong Nianyao had hardly interacted.
“I didn’t, I didn’t,” Ling Chao protested while shaking his head and repeatedly defending himself, “I didn’t do anything, I didn’t kill anyone, I haven’t harmed anyone, don’t slander me here.”
At that moment, he regretted seeking out Zhong Nianyao, not expecting her to know everything. But he absolutely wouldn’t admit it.
Moreover, when he had committed the act, he had already erased all the evidence.
“Lady Zhong, one must have solid evidence when making statements,” Father Ling said sternly with a hint of intimidation in his voice, “You say my son killed that girl, so do you have any proof?”
“Yes, bring out the evidence!” Mrs. Ling, as if latching onto something crucial, confronted Zhong Nianyao, “If you can’t produce any evidence, stop slandering my son here, or I won’t let you off.”
No matter what, they absolutely couldn’t accept the words Zhong Nianyao spoke. To admit to her words would be to cast their son into the abyss.
“Uncle Ling, Aunt Ling,” Chu Xu spoke up, his face looking not so good, “I helped you arrange a meeting with Lady Zhong today, not for her to face your accusations. Whether you believe her or not, you shouldn’t treat Lady Zhong this way!”
Had he known this was the issue at hand, he would not have gotten involved.
Father Ling and Mrs. Ling ignored Chu Xu, their gaze fixed on Zhong Nianyao as if waiting for her to explain.
Ling Chao breathed a sigh of relief nearby. He didn’t know if his parents believed him or not, but their willingness to defend him was enough.
“Pt—”
Zhong Nianyao, one of the parties involved, couldn’t help but burst into laughter, her laughter filled with endless sarcasm, “Mr. Ling, Mrs. Ling, I think there’s something you’ve misunderstood.”
“This isn’t a court, nor is it the police station; we aren’t here to judge a case. I’m merely stating a fact here, whether you choose to believe it or opt to bury your heads in the sand like ostriches is your own choice, unrelated to me.”
“Moreover, I’m not the judge, just a bystander. Whether or not there’s evidence for the deeds Ling Chao has committed is irrelevant because I never intended to judge him. He will face his own consequences.”
The current Zhang Jing is Ling Chao’s repercussion.
Seeing Ling Chao’s darkened forehead told her that his time of death wasn’t far off.
Hearing Zhong Nianyao mention repercussions, Father Ling and Mrs. Ling suddenly snapped out of it, recalling why they were here.
“Husband, let’s go,” Mrs. Ling tugged at Father Ling’s sleeve and spoke, “Aside from being a smooth talker, Zhong Nianyao really isn’t capable of much. We shouldn’t stay here and listen to her spouting nonsense any longer. As long as we have money, I’m sure we can find a master to take care of the female ghost.”
Father Ling’s brow furrowed slightly, and he too planned to leave.
He could see that Zhong Nianyao was unlikely to be helpful today. Hearing her words only solidified that thought in his mind.
Ling Chao was his son; although a troublemaker, he couldn’t just stand by. Regardless of whether what Zhong Nianyao said was true or not, he couldn’t just watch Ling Chao die.
However, he also made a mental note that once all of this settled down, he would tighten surveillance on Ling Chao to prevent him from continuing this reckless behavior.
Father Ling and Mrs. Ling were about to leave with Ling Chao.
Just as they turned to go, Zhong Nianyao’s voice rang out again, “Go seek whoever you want, but let me tell you, it will all be in vain. In three days, Ling Chao will surely die.”
Looking at Ling Chao, enveloped in an aura of death, even three days seemed a conservative estimate. Considering the way things were progressing, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ling Chao didn’t survive the next day.
Zhong Nianyao’s words plunged Father Ling, Mrs. Ling, and Ling Chao into a chill, as if they’d fallen into an ice cellar.
“Zhong Nianyao, shut up.”
Mrs. Ling couldn’t hold back anymore and spun around, shouting vehemently, “You dare to curse my son. I’m telling you, if something really happens to my son, I will never let you off.”
“I am merely stating a simple fact,” Zhong Nianyao shrugged nonchalantly, “Moreover, if your son dies, that’s because of the atrocities he has committed. It’s his karma, unrelated to me.”
Mrs. Ling wanted to retort, but Ling Chao stopped her.
At that moment, Ling Chao’s face was even paler than when he had entered; even his lips trembled if one looked closely.
He was afraid, terrified that what Zhong Nianyao said was true.
Having dealt with her in the past pen spirit incident, he knew that Zhong Nianyao was no ordinary person. Now, with Zhong Nianyao setting a countdown on his life, his heart sank into boundless panic.
A few simple sentences caused Father Ling, who had already been turning to leave, to halt.
He gritted his teeth and, ultimately, turned back, approaching Zhong Nianyao, “Lady Zhong, what exactly do you mean?”
“I mean nothing particular,” Zhong Nianyao shrugged nonchalantly once again, “I’m just kindly reminding you to be prepared in case the situation arises unexpectedly and you find yourselves unable to cope.”
Hearing this, both Father Ling and Mrs. Ling’s expressions darkened greatly.
They clearly understood Zhong Nianyao’s implication: Ling Chao would soon be dead, and they needed to brace themselves.

What parent could be happy hearing such news?
Today, they had simply intended to seek Zhong Nianyao’s aid in catching a ghost, but in the end, their entire family turned into a joke.
