Chapter 360: Chapter 281_2

When he and Fu Liang were attending a medical conference abroad, they received a message from Rong Zhi. At the time, they were busy and didn’t inquire further. Who knew that upon returning to the country, his senior sister would become someone else’s fiancée.

The sparkling silver threads on the young man’s head seemed to dull after hearing this news.

"I don’t want you to marry."

After holding back for a while, he chose to express his true feelings.

"You’ve been with me and Yao Yao since we were little. You promised us that together with Master, you’d stay with us for a lifetime. How is it that in the blink of an eye, you’re engaged."

The usually cold-as-ice young man’s eyes gradually reddened, yet he held back, refusing to let tears flow. His voice choked momentarily as he suppressed his emotions.

If the feelings weren’t deep enough, he wouldn’t have reached this point.

Rong Zhi could understand his feelings. She beckoned him over, and the young man half sat beside her, affectionately and reverently resting his head on her lap.

Her fingertips gently combed through his hair. She stayed silent, allowing Xu Ningxing time to process.

After a while, Xu Ningxing finally let go of her hand, resting his forehead in her palm, his tone gentle and cautious: "We’ll always be family, right?"

Rong Zhi smiled softly, her tone certain: "Of course."

Xu Ningxing paused briefly, then chuckled lightly, his laugh clear and pleasant.

-

"Speaking of which, Zhi Zhi, did you read the recent article on brain surgery published in the medical journal?" Fu Liang asked.

Rong Zhi shook her head.

Fu Liang: "I found Doctor Demmi’s points somewhat familiar... much like the ones you proposed three years ago. Do you know him?"

"Ah," Rong Zhi replied slowly, "I taught him."

"No wonder." Fu Liang realized.

Recently, a paper on one of the most challenging brain surgeries was published in a medical journal. Upon release, it garnered numerous comments from medical professionals, prompting an impromptu discussion at the medical conference.

Xu Ningxing had already sat back down and, upon hearing this, nodded: "Doctor Demmi had another co-author at the end of the paper, ’Ying Jiu’. I thought we were mistaken."

Rong Zhi hadn’t considered this aspect, "I’ll ask him when I have time."

Fu Yaoyao peeled an apple and placed it against her lips, then looked at Xu Ningxing: "What does the paper say?"

Everyone present were doctors, and discussing medical topics could go on endlessly. With Fu Yaoyao leading, Xu Ningxing quickly engaged, with Fu Liang occasionally interjecting, while Rong Zhi listened and posed questions.

Medical terms bounced one after another, such that the person entering thought they were walking into an academic discussion site.

Except for Bai Su, everybody seemed confused.

Jiang Gujun awkwardly touched his nose, "Feels like listening to an esoteric book."

Fu Yaoyao, who originally was in a debate with Xu Ningxing, suddenly reacted to the intrusion, turning her head swiftly, her eyebrows raised proudly.

Rong Zhi looked to the side, first noticing Song Lichen, who was a step behind. At the moment their eyes met, he nodded at her and made an ’ok’ sign.

The stone weighing on her heart subtly dropped halfway.

But then, her view was obstructed by someone standing before her.

Following the person’s belt upwards, Rong Zhi suddenly met a pair of deep, enchanting eyes.

Smiling lightly, the curve faint.

Rong Zhi: "..."

If she were to run now, would there be time?

Obviously—

No time.

"What are you doing?"

Xu Ningxing interrupted the debate with Fu Yaoyao, fiercely scrutinizing the man who was holding the girl horizontally.

Bai Su paused his steps, then turned his head and calmly spoke: "This is adults’ business, kids shouldn’t meddle."

Xu Ningxing: "??"

Fu Yaoyao quickly pulled him back, comforting him: "Get used to it, junior brother, you have to get used to it."

In just this short moment, Bai Su had already disappeared with Rong Family around the corner.

He carried her back into the room, setting her down next to the bed, loosened his collar, about to speak. But noticing her slightly tense expression, he suddenly wanted to laugh.

A surge of indescribable emotions welled up, he closed his eyes complexly, and after a moment of silence, the tension in his chest eased.

Belatedly, he touched his face, realizing his mouth had unknowingly curled into a smile.

He suddenly restrained himself and leaned over her, raising an eyebrow to ask: "If it weren’t for bumping into Song Lichen today, were you planning to keep this from me?"

"No."

Rong Zhi raised her eyes, earnestly saying: "Even if you hadn’t arranged to meet Song Lichen, I was going to tell you."

Bai Su lightly coughed, "I wasn’t nervous at first, but seeing you like this gives me a bit of a crisis feeling."

Rong Zhi didn’t notice his subtle unease, "What?"
