The Ultimate Chance-Chapter 81
By the time they were done changing, Damon had already texted to let her know he was back home. A knot formed in her stomach out of nervousness, which she found odd. She pressed a hand over her chest as she looked at her reflection in the full-length mirror. "Calm down, will you? We are not meeting him for the first time." She scolded her racing heart in a whisper.
She looked spectacularly innocent in the white dress despite its length and she couldn’t help rubbing on a nude lipstick to match the look. Angel had even selected a hair tie for her, subtly letting her know to style her hair in a ponytail.
"You look like a college girl." Mabella wanted to laugh when Avery left her room. She was used to seeing her in sophisticated business outfits that made her look like the overbearing CEO she was. This cute, young woman was less expected than the fluffy skirts she wore while taking Angel out for mother-son days.
"Thank my stylist for that." Avery shrugged and pointed at Angel, whose outfit was all white, complimented with a leather jacket to match his mother.
"I swear, he will either be a fashion designer or a stylist when he grows up." Mabella was in awe. "Can I take a picture? You guys look lovely!"
"Sure." Avery laughed when she saw Mabella had already taken her phone out. It was clear that no matter what her response was, Mabella was hell set on taking the picture she wanted.
After letting Mabella take her heart’s content’s worth of pictures, they finally set off for Damon’s villa. The foreboding feeling in her stomach intensified the closer they were to Damon’s house and when they got in, she finally understood why she was feeling that way.
Why was there a woman on Damon’s couch?
She looked startled to see them and rose to her feet, making Avery realize what she was wearing—almost nothing. Her tiny shorts were almost nonexistent and the tiny triangles covering up her nipples, held up by the longline underneath them might as well not be there. She had covered everything up in a sheer
"May I be of help?" She asked in her French accent as if she was the host and they were unexpected guests in her house.
"Where’s Damon?" Avery held back her curiosity.
The woman studied them for a while and drew a conclusion from Angel’s appearance. "Are you Avery? And you must be Angel." She squealed excitedly.
"Avery." Avery corrected her pronunciation of her name but immediately felt childish about it. It was, after all, a result of her accent that she couldn’t pronounce the name as everyone else did.
She smiled at her jab and disappeared upstairs towards Damon’s room, making Avery cringe. She even had access to Damon’s room. Who exactly was she? 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Chér, your Vee’s here." She announced in her seductive voice, which Avery probably thought of as such because she was repulsed by the woman.
When Damon followed her down the stairs, Avery wanted to smack him. How long did it take for him to move on? A week? They were already using pet names, he must have found her within a day.
"I was waiting for you guys!" Damon kissed her on the cheek and picked Angel up. She tried not to question him about the woman. He was, after all, a single man with every right to do what he wanted. They had not talked about anything.
"I see you met Chloé." He introduced the scantily dressed woman.
"Yes." She tried not to ask who she was—she was probably not ready to hear the answer.
"Do you guys want something to eat?" Chloé asked as though she owned the place. "I’ll order something for you. Chér, what does your Vee like eating?"
His Vee? Avery rolled her eyes.
"Don’t order anything for me." She rejected her.
Chloé didn’t insist. "What about your little angel?"
She didn’t think she could stand this anymore. "Since Angel is here, I guess I’ll be on my way."
He grabbed her hand. "But you just got here. Don’t you want to have some fun?"
She pried her hand out of his with a hiss. "Don’t you have her? You can have all the fun in the world with her."
He frowned and then figured out what he was thinking, which made him tip his head back in laughter. "Are you worried about Chloé? You have nothing to worry about. She’s just going through a horrible breakup. She thought she’d drop by for a day or two."
"Uh-huh." She huffed. Was he blind or stupid? If a woman wanted to slot herself into a man’s life, of course she was going to give a tragic reason. A horrible breakup sounded like the most relatable one. What was worse, while Chloé’s, presence annoyed her, she seemed too kind for anyone to hate her.
The woman finished ordering food and returned to their side. "Avery, Damon’s right. Stay for a while and have fun with us. We are going swimming later."
"You guys can do that." She dismissed, only for Angel to grab her hand and look up at her pleadingly. She was aware that the boy loved swimming and that might explain why he hoped she would join them. She couldn’t turn him down.
"Do I have a choice?"
Probably knowing why she was uncomfortable, Chloé decided to watch movies in her room but as soon as she said that out aloud, Angel ran over to her and hugged her legs, baffling everyone.
"Your son is so adorable! How can I say no to these eyes?" Chloé’s heart melted as she glanced at Avery apologetically.
Left with no choice, Avery was stuck having to swim in the same pool with this woman who had landed out of nowhere. Soon after their dinner, Chloé brought a two-piece swimsuit to her.
"You can borrow this. Don’t worry, I just received it from a contract. I’ve never worn it."
It was already hard enough to hate the woman when she wasn’t doing anything. When she acted so kind, Avery didn’t know what to think. She reluctantly accepted the swim suit.
"I guess I have to accept the fact that we’re not together. If we are going to co-parent successfully, he needs to be able to live his life." She held the flimsy swimsuit to her chest, then noticed Chloé’s awkward stare. "I said that aloud, didn’t I?"
"It’s alright." Chloé smiled.
She was quite beautiful, to be fair. Avery guessed she must be a lingerie model with that kind of flawless skin and figure. At least Damon had good taste. If Angel were to have siblings, they would be pretty. Why did she think about that? She berated herself.
"I’ll wait for you outside." Chloé excused herself to give her privacy.
By the time she finally got to the swimming pool, Chloé was playing pool games with Angel. How she managed to get the boy to like her in such a short time, she would never understand. But at least Angel wouldn’t be forced into an environment he didn’t like.
"Avery, join us!" Chloé waved her over. Damon was doing laps on his own so she decided to join the duo, who were happy to play with her.
When she was close enough to Chloé, the woman was in awe.
"Those are real!" She exclaimed.
"Uhm, what?" Avery chuckled awkwardly when she realized the woman was talking about her boobs. She knew they had grown bigger after Angel was born but she didn’t think it was worth that kind of reaction.
"Can I touch them?" Chloé asked in a whisper, and didn’t give Avery the chance to say anything before she grabbed them and gave them a gentle squeeze. Avery’s jaw dropped while Damon, who was waiting for a bloodbath and had come over to stop it, burst into laughter.
"You can’t just go grabbing my woman’s boobs, Chloé." He reprimanded her, wrapping an arm around Avery protectively. Luckily, Angel was too busy playing to notice what was happening around them.
"But she’s so beautiful." Chloé whined.
"I know. She’s taken." Damon warned, rendering Avery confused. What was happening? Why was Damon’s admirer suddenly being told to stay away from her?
Seeing the confusion on her face, Chloé finally explained, "He’s worried I’d take you away from him since I’m single now. My girlfriend broke up with me over text because she can’t stand the thought of men staring at my pictures. Can you even believe it?"
Girlfriend? The word hit her like a ton of bricks. Chloé was into women!
She covered her chest. "You pervert!"
Chloé burst into laughter. "It was fun watching your expressions as you assumed I was after Damon, I’ll admit." After revealing her plot to drive her crazy with jealousy, she escaped back to Angel’s side.
It finally made sense. "I think I’ve seen her on a magazine cover." Avery tried to recall in vain.
"She’s on many of those." Damon raked a hand through his wet hair. "You were so jealous when you thought she was after me. Does this mean you still love me? We should get back together." He teased.
She rolled her eyes. "Did I stumble into the lair of lunatics?"
She swam away from him and he couldn’t help staring at her body. It made sense why Chloé would be so attracted to her. Who wouldn’t be?
