The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe-Chapter 85: Have you finally gone insane?
The words Solin said, I heard them. But before anything else, someone else arrived.
The leaves behind me rustled, drawing our attention and we turned.
Who could it be all of a sudden?
As if the drama with these guys wasn’t enough, I wonder if it was yet another troublemaker who was making their way here.
But fortunately for me, the one who arrived was Fenric.
As soon as I saw him, it felt like a stone had been lifted from my chest.
Good. If he were here, then we could turn this situation around.
Kaelor frowned on seeing Fenric. I don’t know what he had in his mind but it didn’t look like he was in a good mood.
What will he do now?
Will he keep silent while they throw accusations at me or will he finally own up?
I bet he won’t want to do the latter. After all, it would be like confessing that he almost kissed his own sister and that would be frowned upon in the tribe.
Fenric finally saw the situation in front of him.
His eyes scanned, looking from the group that was pointing fingers to Kaelor and then to where I stood with Damar.
As soon as he saw Damar, his eyes widened.
He was shocked. But even more so, he rushed to my side, making sure I wasn’t hurt.
"Are you fine?" He asked, looking at my hands, my shoulders, and even spinning me around. "Did something happen?"
I was confused and didn’t know that the first instinct Fenric had on seeing a situation where Damar had to intervene, despite the consequences, was to make sure I was fine.
After all, the only reason Damar would actually risk going this far was if I was hurt or about to get hurt.
"I’m fine," I said, but then he saw the dried streak of tears on my cheeks.
His hands on my shoulders began to tremble and his shoulders quaked.
"Who did this?" He asked, his voice sounding more like a growl, as his jaw tightened.
I couldn’t answer. Not right away.
I stared at him, and some sort of gladness filled me.
I don’t know how to explain it but the gladness was so overwhelming that I chuckled, and from that chuckle, I laughed.
I laughed hard.
They both looked at me, puzzled and the others grew uncomfortable with the situation.
Didn’t Fenric see the snake? They wondered.
Even Kaelor did not expect Fenric to be so laid back when a snake was right next to me.
And this made him draw a conclusion.
Fenric knew about me.
Well, how could he not?
He was very intimate with me and probably knew every corner of my body. It would be even more weird if he hadn’t seen the snake mark and known that I had a snake as a spouse.
He clenched his fists.
"Have you finally gone insane?" Ashren asked and both my husbands shot glares at him.
This made his body stiffen even more and he flinched.
How dare he speak before he was spoken to?
The kind of pressure their gaze carried made their skin crawl and the hair on their tail stand.
"Cub," Damar suddenly called. "Why did you leave Ari by herself?"
"I needed to get water for her," Fenric said.
"Why didn’t you take her with you?"
"The chiefs called for her."
They were both having this question and answer session without a care in the world, forgetting that this wasn’t the time to be laid back.
It was only a matter of time before things escalated past this point.
"Then you should’ve gone with her," Damar said, his eyes growing cold.
At this point, Fenric went silent.
He looked at the situation once again, and then at Kaelor.
He narrowed his eyes, assessing the situation. He grew suspicious but didn’t want to believe it.
"Arinya," he called. "Did Kaelor... Do something to you?"
Yeah, that was his suspicion.
Kaelor clenched his fists, but still didn’t say anything.
"He—"
"What is going on, sister?" Veyra suddenly cut in, giving me no chance to explain the situation to Fenric. "This situation..." She glanced at Fenric. "Beast warrior, do you not see what is going on right now?"
Fenric turned, frowning as he said,
"The only thing I can see is that a bunch of you all are ganging up on my wife." He folded his arms, his thick biceps bulging. "Solin," he called.
"Yes, brother?"
Solin stepped up from their midst, finally cutting free from their toxic circle.
"Can you explain to me what’s going on and why my wife has a stream of dried tears on her face?"
Fenric knew who to ask. He knew that the one who was with me from the start was Kaelor but he did not ask him yet.
Why, though?
I wondered.
Maybe he had a plan.
"I don’t know why either, brother." She said. "But..." Her eyes rolled towards Kaelor smoothly as she added, "...her siblings have been throwing false accusations at her without knowing exactly what happened, just because they saw that snake beastman by her side."
"What do you mean by throwing false accusations?" Zevak barked. "If she didn’t bring the snake beastman into the tribe then how did it get here? And why is he standing by her side? I’d also like to know why brother Kaelor is wounded. Saying Arinya brought in a snake beastman to the tribe in order to get revenge is only right."
"Yeah!" Ashren nodded.
A bunch of morons are trying to speak logically when they forgot the basis of a logical statement.
Knowing exactly what happened.
"As I said," Solin said, meekly. "Throwing false accusations."
"You..." Veyra got mad. "Why are you picking her side when we got here together and saw her with the snake?"
"That’s because I’m not dumb, and I’m certainly not on a quest to make Arinya out to be a villain." She said and gazed at me.
Her cold and uninterested eyes suddenly grew warm.
"Arinya is certainly not the type to take others’ lives, just because she wants revenge. She... Has no vengeance in her eyes."
