Chapter 73: He has no greed in his eyes

Fenric was excited to go back but I made us stop by Harok’s place on our way back.

I needed to carry the plates and spoons, but Harok said we’d have to get our own basket or net to carry them since he didn’t have any.

That meant, we’d have to come back later.

As we were having this conversation, his eyes landed on Fenric. He was probably wondering if I had Fenric as my spouse as well, and I decided to do the introduction.

"This is Fenric, a snow tiger, he’s my second mate," I said, clutching his arm.

"I did say I don’t want to get involved," Harok said. "But this beast is a beast warrior, am I right?"

I was surprised. Harok, who didn’t seem to be following gossip knew that Fenric was a bear warrior? Or did he just guess?

"That’s right. I’m a Beast warrior." Fenric said and Harok narrowed his eyes.

"You’re the second spouse. Do you know who the first is?" He asked and Fenric looked at me.

He didn’t know what was going on, so he sought permission from me before he said anything. I nodded my head, giving him a go-ahead, and he smiled.

"The first mate is the one who made Arinya her necklace." He said. "Does that answer your question?"

That was impressive.

He answered the question without giving away any information that pointed Damar out as a snake.

If Harok knew who my first mate was then he would understand where the necklace came from. He used word play to answer as well as sound him out.

He’s smart.

Harok nodded and then turned to enter his hut.

"Then I will no longer pry. Come back later with a basket to take the stuff. But not today anymore. I’ll be out to gather materials." He said and I nodded.

"Alright, thank you," I said and turned. "Let’s go, Fenric."

Fenric turned with me, but he kept his eyes on Harok for a few seconds, judging with his own eyes, and then nodded.

"What were you doing?" I asked as we began walking away.

"I was trying to see if that beastman was dangerous to you, Wife." He said and I narrowed my eyes.

Does he have discerning eyes or something?

"Then, did you find anything?" I asked and he beamed a smile.

"He has no greed in his eyes, so you should be fine working with him." He said and I raised a brow.

By greed, could he elaborate? Because I end up thinking in a different direction when such a thing is mentioned.

Does he mean that Harok isn’t greedy for a mate or that he won’t steal my things?

But Fenric did not say more.

Well, whatever it was, I guess it should be fine.

If it’s Fenric, he was probably looking out for my best interest so Harok posed no threat to me.

Besides, I’d like to cross the idea of him having an interest in me. He’s older than the healing lady so it gives me eerie goosebumps thinking about it.

"Arinya, let’s walk faster," he said, leading me by my hand.

"But why?"

We’ll only tire ourselves out more if we walk too fast.

"It’s because I’m in a hurry to make cubs with you, Arinya." He said and my face heated up.

Has he been thinking of that the whole time?

How do I tell him that we can’t make babies when I wasn’t in my Estrus?

No, I’m sure he knows that fact. He’s just using the cubs as an excuse to mate.

I cleared my throat with my hand fisted over my mouth.

"There’s no need to rush," I said, but he had other plans, suddenly lifting me off my feet and into his arms.

"Whoa! You..."

He began to run, with a speed I had never witnessed before.

It almost felt like he was flying with the wind with how fast he was going.

He wasn’t even a leopard, but he was going too fast.

Is it because he was a beast warrior?

"F-fenric..." I managed to call despite the fierce wind. "Where are you going?"

"I’m going back the way I came." He answered and then I realized that the route he took was the one that followed the greenery with trees.

That was a long route I had taken because there was someone following me. There was a shorter road to the left that we could go through, especially since he was in such a hurry.

But I never got the chance to tell him because before I knew it, we were still in the greenery.

He probably planned to bolt his way through as well but I had had enough.

"S-stop. Hold on for a moment, Fenric. Just..." He looked down at me and saw the discomfort on my face.

He immediately came to a stop, his legs screeching against the hard ground.

"Arinya?" He called and I tapped his chest to let me down.

The moment he did, I held the tree trunk and threw up.

He had been too fast for my own good, and the fruits I had eaten had all found their way back to my throat.

It was a nightmare.

Fenric looked at me like he didn’t know what to do with himself, worried that he had caused me harm with his rush.

"Arinya," he called, reaching his hand to me but fidgeted. He didn’t know if he could touch me when he was the one who put me in that state and wanted to take his hand back but I grabbed it.

"Let’s..." I breathed roughly, using the back of my other hand to wipe my mouth. "...let’s just walk from here."

"Sorry." He said. "I didn’t know it would be like this."

His ears were down, acknowledging his mistake and feeling guilty.

He looked like a puppy that had just been scolded and I haven’t even scolded him yet.

"It’s fine, Fenric. It’s just because it’s my first time doing something like that." I said and smiled. "You’re so strong and fast, it was thrilling." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Seeing my smile, his ears shot up and his face brightened again.

"I’m sure I’ll get used to it in time."

"So you’ll let me try it again?" He asked, looking excited but I pushed his face away.

He was always so excited.

"Yes, but not now." Maybe when I’m on an empty stomach. "Okay?"

"Yes." He nodded a couple of times and then beamed a smile like a simpleton.

His smile shot at my heart. It was so pure and so... Ah, he was so handsome, I could kiss him.

I slowly moved closer to him but then realized I had just thrown up.

He might find it nasty, and I don’t feel too comfortable with it either, so... I turned my head, giving up on the idea until I get some water to rinse my mouth, but then he grabbed my chin, wrapped his arm around my waist, and pulled me closer.

"Wife..." Ah, there it was.

That expression that looked like he couldn’t do anything without me, that I was his world. That pink hue on his pale skin, beneath his eyes, painted on his cheek, and that soft glow in his eyes as he looked into mine. All of that made it seem like I was the most important person in his life and the whole world.

It made my heart race, knowing I held so much importance to him.

And then, he said in a soft whisper, "I want to do it."
