The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe-Chapter 260: A wolf girl named Tita
There were goosebumps all over my body, and every hair on my body was standing in alert.
This girl... She was flirting with me, wasn’t she?
What was her deal?
That sly look on her face made her seem more like a fox than a wolf. She was slowly crawling towards me on all fours, acting as a predator of some kind—you know, ’that’ kind—but what does she want from me?
I’m not the one she should be hunting. I’m pretty sure there are a lot of able-bodied beastmen out there she can hunt so why me?
I gulped, my heart hammering as my focus had shifted from ’who are you?’ to ’what do you want with me?’
Just then, I saw her ear twitch, listening to the incoming footsteps outside, and then she clicked her tongue.
"Ugh, here comes the buzzkill," she muttered, and just then, the flap on the door spread, revealing Noah, who was looking at the wolf girl as she had already caused trouble in his absence.
"Tita, get away from her." He yelled, and she shifted away from me, folding her arms and pouting her lips in defiance.
Ah, so Noah was the buzzkill she was referring to. But whatever. How glad I was that he had shown up before that creepy female tried whatever she wanted to try.
Behind him were Noah and Fenric.
They filed in and seeing th cubs sleeping peacefully, they felt relieved, but then seeing me at full alert, glued to the wall, they couldn’t help but frown and look towards Noah.
"What’s going on?" Fenric asked. "You said she’d be safe here."
"Of course. She’s safer here than anyone else as long as she remains asleep." Noah said and I tilted my head.
What was that supposed to mean?
"No one would dare come close to Tita’s hut so she’s safe from any harm." He said, "But then the problem is, who’s going to save her from Tita once she wakes up?"
"What’s that supposed to mean?" Fenric asked, frowning and I nodded.
Exactly. What’s that supposed to mean?
Did he put me under the care of a crazy female knowing what she’s capable of?
Noah scratched the back of his head.
"She’s not that dangerous, I’ll assure you that," Noah said and I gulped my heart down.
Okay, she’s not ’that’ dangerous, but she ’is’ dangerous, right?
"She just has a knack for teasing so it’s fine."
That didn’t feel like ’just’ teasing to me. I felt like she was going to devour me a moment ago.
Damar came to my side, brushing his hand over my hair and then my face, making sure I hadn’t been touched.
"Are you fine?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yes, but... What’s going on here?" I asked. "And where were you? I woke up and didn’t see any of you. Instead, I saw that female and..."
"Did she do anything to you?" Noah asked and I felt a sort of heaviness in his voice, like he would rip her apart if I said yes.
"No, she didn’t. She just evaded my questions and..." I glanced at her and she winked at me, once again giving me goosebumps. "Acted weird. She’s weird."
Noah nodded.
"Yawn," she yawned loudly on purpose. "Well, I did my part. Do I get to play with the pretty female now?" She asked and we all chorused.
"No!"
She flinched.
Everyone was so against it that it looked like she was some sort of criminal.
I had my reasons, Noah too, and the other two should have some sort of reason. Well, in any case, neither of us needed her near me so she could leave.
"I appreciate you taking care of my cubs and taking care of me, but I don’t feel comfortable with you," I said to her and she simply shrugged.
"Well, can you blame me?" She reached for my face and caressed my cheek. "You’re such a pretty female and I like anything pretty."
Damar slapped her hand down and flicked his tongue, hissing as he looked at her as a threat.
If she was looking for something pretty to play with, I’d understand if she went for Damar since he was the prettiest of us all, but I guess her interest lay in females.
That’s even weirder.
I should probably introduce her to Solin. They’ll make good friends.
"That’s harsh," she said and stood to her feet, stretching. "Well, I’ll let you borrow my hut but you’ll have to pay me somehow, cousin."
"You don’t have to tell me. I don’t like owing debts either." Noah answered and then we watched her leave.
Once she was gone, I asked,
"Cousin?"
In fact, where were we?
"Yes, Tita is my cousin. And she stays at the border here, not in West Way." He explained, sitting down by the fire. "She has a peculiar personality, but she’s not that bad to relate to. She definitely means no harm."
"Speak for yourself," Fenric said as he sat down as well. "I have a sister who looks at Arinya just the way Tita did just now, and I can tell you there’s a lot of harm to it." He huffed.
Ah, even Fenric felt it. Then I was definitely not mistaken.
Solin and Tita were both the same peas in a pod.
"I didn’t imagine it, right? She was definitely flirting with me." I said and Noah darted his eyes away. "Gosh, does it run in the family blood or what?"
"Ahem," he cleared his throat. "Well, let’s put that aside."
I leaned back against the wall, the tension finally leaving my shoulders, though my heart was still doing a frantic little dance.
"Are we safe?" I asked, looking at them.
"Tita’s a high-ranking Scout for the border guards," Noah explained, ignoring Fenric’s grumbling.
He reached for a bowl of steaming broth that had been sitting near the fire and handed it to me.
"Tita can be... eccentric, as you’ve seen. But she’s also one of the few people I can trust to keep their mouth shut about us being here before we’re ready to enter the city properly."
