the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart-Chapter 988: If You Don’t Have Money, Would You Pawn Me to Pay Your Debts?
Major General Shaw made a bid, and naturally, no one else would continue bidding. Competing for something from his hands, this item seems quite trivial. If you say it’s good, it just sits in the house as an air freshener. If you say it’s to make Buddha Beads, well, no one at home practices Buddhism. Besides, who would spend hundreds of thousands or even millions to buy something like this for the old lady at home, only to possibly get their leg broken when they return?
Crystal initially thought 2 to 3 million was the maximum, but this spendthrift suddenly bid 6 million! She’s been saving for four years and only managed to save 2 million, damn it.
"Just you wait." She shoved the wine glass in Hawk Howard’s hands and went forward to grab Richard Shaw’s clothes.
Richard was already the focus of the crowd. He was naturally out of place among the noble sons of Imperial City, exuding a calm aura from his military career. Standing in a high position, he had an imposing presence that these pampered young gentlemen couldn’t match. The crowd deliberately kept a distance from where he was standing, as his presence was overwhelming, making it uncomfortable to be too close.
The charity auction was still ongoing. Seeing Crystal thread through the crowd and affectionately grab Major General Shaw’s sleeve, everyone held their breath, their gossip radar on high alert. After all, the noble houses of Imperial City were betting that Richard Shaw would definitely call off the engagement.
Richard felt his sleeve being tugged, caught a faint scent from the young girl, and without turning around, asked lightly, "Hmm?"
Crystal tiptoed and whispered softly in his ear, "This fragrance is so expensive. How much do you make in a year? If you don’t have enough, will you mortgage me to pay off the debt?"
Richard’s body gave a slight tremor, as the fragrance at the tip of his nose grew stronger. It wasn’t like any flower scent he had smelled before, carrying an alluring aroma, a bit intoxicating.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Richard turned back, speaking in a low tone. Looking at the girl’s pretty eyes close at hand, he quickly averted his gaze.
This fool didn’t even realize she was flirting with him.
Since Richard had bid, he had no reason to retract. He worked hard in the military district to protect the country and returned only to lead in donations, whereas those perpetual playboys never thought of contributing to society. Crystal was angry about that. Pearl Landon organizing a charity auction didn’t mean much if they couldn’t get those stingy guys to donate. Leading Richard by the nose was nonsensical; this fool!
Crystal shook his arm, waved her small fist, and threatened, "Don’t bid on the remaining auctions or else Grandma will hit you at home, and I won’t stop her."
In a soft, sweet voice, the girl issued a fierce threat, yet it sounded like she was being coquettish to him.
Richard had little concept of money. He just saw that the incense was excellent and bought it for the old lady at a slightly elevated market price, as it was for charity. Being in the Southwest Military Zone, he had seen too many impoverished children, and charity, even after throwing in tens of millions, would barely make a splash.
Merely six million, and yet Crystal came running, waving her tiny claws in threat. The man couldn’t help but laugh, finding her a bit adorable. Now she even wants to manage his finances. What a little miser.
"I’ve got money." He rarely lowered his head and whispered softly.
To outsiders, this was clearly a couple whispering sweet nothings. Damn, those who bet on Richard Shaw canceling the engagement are probably going to lose their pants, aren’t they?
