the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart-Chapter 965: The Shaw Family Matriarch Spoils Crystal Landon Like She’s Been Bewitched
Unlike the noble elegance of the Howard Family’s matriarch, the Shaw Family’s matriarch was slightly more understated and low-key. Outsiders only spoke of the Shaw Family’s overwhelming power, but within the Shaw Family, spanning three generations, there was only one elderly woman and a single descendant left. Crystal Landon believed that if such immense power could be exchanged for the safety of the family, the old matriarch would definitely be willing.
When Crystal Landon arrived, the old matriarch’s family had come to visit, staying from the afternoon until now, lingering without leaving. They had even brought two young and beautiful juniors, claiming to visit the matriarch, but in reality, they were there to wander around the Shaw Mansion, hoping they might bump into Richard Shaw. If the young ones liked each other, it would be an enormous blessing.
Since Richard Shaw’s return in recent days, all branches of the Shaw family, including maternal relatives, anyone slightly related to the Shaw Family, had come to visit, with young, pretty girls visiting one after another.
Now that Richard Shaw had reached the age to marry, after years of training in the Military District, a transfer back to the Imperial City was just a matter of a word.
In the Shaw Family, it’s just the matriarch and her grandson. Whoever marries in will be the future ruler, making everyone green with envy.
The matriarch’s heart was clear as day. She spent the entire afternoon sewing a small vest to pass the time.
"Grandma, Grandma, I’m here to scrounge a meal!" Crystal Landon breezed into the main hall like a gust of wind, hugged the matriarch, and playfully said.
The matriarch’s cold face finally blossomed into a smile. She embraced the young girl with affection and asked kindly, "You little rascal, what brings you here?"
Crystal casually tossed her backpack onto the sofa, settled beside the matriarch, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes full of mirth, and playfully said, "I missed you, Grandma. There’s no food at home."
Only before the matriarch of the Shaw Family could Crystal Landon be an eighteen-year-old girl who could act cute and spoiled.
The matriarch frowned slightly and said, "How can there be no food? Are your parents still with Pearl Landon? No wonder you’ve gotten so thin recently. This won’t do. You should stay with Grandma for a while; you’re still growing."
The matriarch’s face was full of concern, making the two nieces-in-law from her maternal side across the room turn gloomy. In the grand scheme of things, who was Crystal Landon? The Landon Family had no real ties to the Shaw Family, yet over the years, the matriarch treated this little girl as though under a spell, not even her own family had such privileges, let alone the lesser branches of the Shaw Family.
The reputation of that girl Crystal in the Imperial City was so bad, yet the matriarch seemed blind to it. If they had a daughter like her, they’d be ashamed enough to want to die.
"Then I’ll stay with Grandma for a bit. You’re so kind, Grandma." Crystal said without any hesitation, hugging the matriarch and affectionately rubbing her face against her arm. Since Pearl was coming back, she might as well stay at the Shaw Mansion to accompany the Grandmother.
The old matriarch, softened by the young girl’s affectionate gesture, jokingly scolded, "You little rascal, addicted now, aren’t you?"
Her words were filled with love.
"Crystal, your school term is starting soon, right? Make sure to work hard at your studies this year. Our Shannon had been accepted into the Imperial City University. If you need tutoring, you can have Shannon help you." Mrs. Walker was a shrewd woman; with just one sentence, she managed to praise her own daughter, take a jab at Crystal, and plot to have her daughter stay at the Shaw Mansion for tutoring. Once living there, wouldn’t she inevitably see Richard Shaw?
Crystal narrowed her beautiful almond-shaped eyes, glanced at Shannon Walker, whose face had stiffened with a hint of excitement, and smiled, "Major General Shaw will be tutoring me. Besides, Grandma likes peace and quiet; too many people at home would disturb her." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
That single sentence made Mrs. Walker fume with anger.
