The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 316: Truth
Chapter 316: Truth
Remo sat at Abby’s bedside for what felt like hours, his mind replaying the events of the last few days over and over. The doubt that had settled in his chest gnawed at him, refusing to be ignored. Abby looked so peaceful, so innocent as she slept, but the weight of Nicole’s words pressed heavily on his mind. He loved Abby, had always protected her, but Nicole’s desperate warnings couldn’t be dismissed so easily.
The hospital room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the machines monitoring Abby’s vitals. The low hum of the hospital’s life reminded Remo of the tension hanging over him, an invisible but suffocating presence. His phone buzzed in his pocket, pulling him from his thoughts. He looked at the screen—Tony.
For a moment, he hesitated. He didn’t know if he wanted to talk to anyone right now. The confusion and guilt tangled within him made it hard to focus on anything other than what had just happened. But Tony, his closest friend and confidant, would notice his silence. He sighed and answered the call.
"Remo," Tony’s deep voice rumbled on the other end, "I heard about what happened. Are you okay? Is Abby...?"
"Abby’s stable," Remo replied, his voice tight. "She’ll be fine."
Tony paused, and Remo could hear the skepticism in his tone when he asked, "And you? What the hell happened with Nicole? The news is all over it, making it sound like you’ve got some love triangle situation going on."
Remo leaned forward, rubbing his forehead with his free hand. "It’s a mess, Tony. I walked in, and Abby was on the floor, bleeding. Nicole was standing there with blood on her hands." He paused, his voice dropping lower. "But she says Abby set her up. That Abby... manipulated the situation."
A long silence followed on the other end of the line. Tony finally spoke, his voice measured. "You think there’s any truth to that?"
Remo closed his eyes, his chest tightening. "I don’t know. Everything about it felt wrong, but I don’t want to believe it, Tony. I love her."
"I know you do," Tony said, his voice softer now. "But sometimes love can blind us to the truth. You’ve always been protective of Abby, and I get it—she’s been through a lot. But you have to ask yourself... has she changed? Or maybe, has she always been this way, and you just didn’t see it?"
Remo swallowed hard. "What do I do, Tony? I feel like I’m losing my mind. I don’t know what’s real anymore."
"You need to step back, look at things clearly," Tony advised. "Don’t let your emotions control you. If Abby’s playing some sort of game, you need to figure it out before more damage is done."
Remo nodded, though Tony couldn’t see him. "I hear you. I just... I need more time."
Tony sighed. "Take the time you need, but be careful. If there’s more to this, you don’t want to be caught off guard. I’ll be here if you need anything."
"Thanks," Remo said quietly before hanging up the phone.
He leaned back in his chair, staring at Abby’s peaceful face. Tony’s words echoed in his mind: Has she always been this way, and you just didn’t see it? Remo had always known Abby was intense, possessive even, but that was part of what had drawn him to her. She loved fiercely, and so did he. But now, that fierce love was starting to feel like something else. Something darker.
The door creaked open, and a nurse poked her head in. "Mr. Quinn, the police are here to take your statement. They’ll need to speak with your wife as well once she’s fully awake."
Remo nodded, his chest tightening. "I’ll be out in a minute."
The nurse left, and Remo stood, taking a final look at Abby before stepping out of the room. He found the officers waiting in the hallway, their expressions professional but curious. After all, the news had turned this into a media circus.
"Mr. Quinn, we’ll keep this brief," the lead officer said, flipping open a small notepad. "We just need to hear your account of what happened last night."
Remo told them everything: arriving home to find Abby injured, Nicole standing there, the knife, the chaos. He kept his voice neutral, leaving out his doubts, the swirling confusion that haunted him.
"And your wife, Mrs. Quinn, told you that Nicole attacked her unprovoked?" the officer asked, scribbling notes.
Remo hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding. "Yes, that’s what she said."
The officer exchanged a glance with his partner before jotting down more notes. "We’ll need to speak with Mrs. Quinn once she’s awake, of course. And we’ll be taking a formal statement from Nicole as well. I assume you’re aware she’s claiming self-defense?"
"I’ve heard," Remo muttered, his jaw tight. "She’s lying."
The officer raised an eyebrow. "That’s for us to determine, Mr. Quinn. We’ll be conducting a full investigation."
Remo clenched his fists but nodded. "I understand."
After a few more questions, the officers left, promising to return once Abby was in better condition to speak. Remo stood in the hallway, staring after them, the tension in his chest growing heavier with each passing moment.
He wasn’t sure if he could do this. He had always been the man with answers, the man who could solve any problem, no matter how complicated. But now, as he stood between the woman he loved and the woman who had accused her of something unthinkable, he realized that he was out of his depth. This wasn’t something he could fix with force or intimidation. This was a war of lies and truths, and he had no idea which side he was really on. freewebnoveℓ.com
As he made his way back to Abby’s room, his mind whirled with possibilities. Could Abby really have set this all up? Had she orchestrated the entire scene to manipulate him, to make Nicole look like the villain? And if she had... what would he do about it?
