The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 250: Platonic
Chapter 250: Platonic
"Why is he like this?" Abby muttered, more to herself than to Cage. "He had his chance, and he blew it. I’m happy now, and I don’t need him messing that up."
"I know," Cage said, stopping his pacing to lean against his desk. "But he doesn’t seem to care about your happiness. He’s fixated on you, and it’s dangerous."
Abby was silent for a moment, then she spoke with a determined edge to her voice. "I won’t let him ruin my life again, Cage. If he tries anything, I’ll deal with him myself."
"You’re not alone in this," Cage assured her. "I’ll help you however I can. Just... be careful, okay? Alex is unpredictable."
"Thanks, Cage," Abby said, a hint of warmth in her voice. "I appreciate your concern. But remember, I’m not the same person I was when Alex and I were together. I’m stronger now."
"I know you are," Cage replied, feeling a swell of admiration for her resilience. "Just keep me informed, and we’ll figure this out together."
"Who was that?" Fredrick asked, looking up from his phone to see Abby staring pensively at her own. They had agreed to meet at their usual spot, a secluded corner of the café that offered privacy from prying eyes. freēnovelkiss.com
"Cage," Abby replied with a sigh.
Fredrick raised his brows. "Oh, it’s been a while. How did he take the news of you getting married?"
Abby sighed again, running a hand through her hair. "Bad. He’s afraid Remo will find out."
Fredrick nodded thoughtfully. "We need to speed things up so that you can have your happy ending."
Abby shook her head, her expression troubled. "I doubt that’s possible. Whoever killed my dad and Martha hasn’t been caught yet."
Fredrick frowned deeply, concern etching lines on his face. "Remo and Cage didn’t find anything?"
Abby shook her head, her frustration evident. "It was a dead end. Every lead they had dried up, and we’re no closer to finding out who’s responsible."
Fredrick reached across the table, taking Abby’s hand in his. "We’ll figure it out, Abby. There has to be something we’re missing. Some clue we haven’t seen yet."
Abby squeezed his hand, her eyes searching his. "I want to believe that, but it’s been months, Fredrick. The trail is cold, and I’m starting to lose hope."
Fredrick leaned in, his voice firm and reassuring. "Don’t lose hope. We’ll keep digging, keep pushing until we find the truth. You deserve justice, and we won’t stop until you have it."
Abby nodded,
"Did you find what you were looking for in Japan?" Abby asked, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
Fredrick smirked and pulled out a fancy bottle from his bag. "Of course I did."
Abby smiled, satisfaction evident in her expression. "Good. I need that woman to suffer so badly. I’m sure she’s the one who killed my mom."
Fredrick chuckled, shaking his head. "Don’t speak about my dear Margaret like that. She’s a sweetheart."
Abby rolled her eyes. "You’re crazy for sleeping with that old witch."
Fredrick held his chest dramatically, feigning hurt. "My dear Abby, I did it for you. Imagine how disgusting I feel touching her. You’re lucky I love you. The things we do for love."
As he finished his sentence, Fredrick suddenly stiffened, sensing a shift in the room’s atmosphere. He turned slowly to find a tall, imposing figure standing nearby. Remo, Abby’s lover, had arrived unnoticed, and his expression was a mix of confusion and barely restrained jealousy.
"Who’s this?" Remo asked, his voice tight as he stared at Fredrick. It was clear he had heard Fredrick’s last words, and he wasn’t happy about it.
Abby quickly stood up, placing herself between the two men. "Remo, this is Fredrick. He’s a close friend and has been helping me with some personal matters."
Fredrick extended a hand, trying to diffuse the tension. "Nice to meet you, Remo."
Remo ignored the outstretched hand, his eyes fixed on Abby. "Why haven’t you mentioned him before? And what was all that about love?"
Abby sighed, taking Remo’s arm and leading him a few steps away from Fredrick. "Remo, it’s not what you think. Fredrick and I go way back. He’s been helping me investigate my parents’ deaths. The ’love’ he mentioned is platonic, and it’s part of our strategy to deal with Margaret."
Remo’s eyes softened slightly, but he remained wary. "Why didn’t you tell me about him?"
Abby looked into his eyes, her voice soothing. "Oh—-Fredrick wasn’t around so I forgot to update you. Remo’s gaze flickered to Fredrick, then back to Abby. "Alright."
Fredrick, sensing the need to clarify further, stepped forward. "Look, Remo, I’m here to help Abby. I’m not a threat to your relationship. In fact, I want to see her happy with you."
Remo scrutinized Fredrick for a moment before finally relaxing. "Alright. I’m sorry if I overreacted. It’s just... I care about Abby, and I don’t want anyone to hurt her."
Abby smiled, relieved by the truce. "Thank you, Remo. And thank you, Fredrick, for understanding."
Fredrick nodded, the tension in the room easing. "We all want the same thing: to see Abby safe and happy. Let’s focus on that."
Abby turned to Remo, curiosity evident in her eyes. "How did you know I was here? I thought you had a business meeting."
Remo’s expression softened, and he offered a small smile. "I did, but I called your bodyguard to check on you, and he told me you were here. I wanted to make sure you were safe."
Abby raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in her tone. "Checking up on me, were you?"
Remo shrugged, unashamed. "I worry about you, Abby. Especially with everything going on."
Abby’s expression softened, touched by his concern. "I appreciate that, Remo. But you know I can handle myself fine."
Fredrick, sensing the need to lighten the mood, interjected with a grin. "She certainly can. Abby’s tougher than she looks."
Remo chuckled, finally relaxing completely. "I don’t doubt that. Still, it’s good to know you have people looking out for you."
Abby smiled, glancing between the two men who had become her unlikely allies. "I do. And I’m grateful for both of you."
Fredrick observed the interaction, noting the genuine affection between Abby and Remo. He cleared his throat, sensing it was time to give them a moment alone. "I’ll let you two catch up. Abby, we can discuss the next steps later."
Abby nodded, grateful for his understanding. "Thanks, Fredrick. I appreciate everything you’re doing."
As Fredrick turned to leave, Remo extended a more genuine handshake. "Thank you for helping Abby. I apologize for what happened earlier."
Fredrick shook his hand firmly. "No problem, Remo. I understand. We all want what’s best for her."
With that, Fredrick left the café, leaving Abby and Remo in a more relaxed atmosphere. Remo pulled Abby into a gentle hug, kissing her forehead.
"I’m sorry if I seemed jealous. I just worry about you."
Abby leaned into him, savoring the comfort of his embrace. "I know, and I appreciate it. There’s so much going on right now, and having you by my side makes it easier to handle."
