Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Why Isn’t There Any Movement in Your Belly Yet?

Vincent Summers swallowed and looked a bit tempted: "So, how’s the salary and benefits?"

"What do you think?" Maya Monroe chuckled and asked back.

Vincent’s eyes shifted, seeming a bit hesitant: "Sounds good, but do you think someone as handsome as me..."

He suddenly frowned: "Forget it, forget it, I’d better honestly follow Brother Ian. After all, I’m the one who’s going to inherit the family business!"

Maya waited for a while without seeing Ian, and casually asked: "Where’s my husband?"

"Brother Ian? He’s busy in the study."

"Oh... How come you aren’t with him this time?"

Maya remembered Vincent usually stuck close to Ian, rarely seeing them in separate places.

Vincent casually grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds: "Brother Ian is really busy and doesn’t want to deal with me."

"Hold on, put those sunflower seeds down."

Vincent’s eyes widened: "What do you mean?"

Maya spoke slowly: "The sunflower seeds in your hand are the ones I bought."

She pointed to another fruit plate: "Those are prepared by Aunt Wang, go ahead and eat those."

"Really? Just for this handful of sunflower seeds, you’re so particular?"

Maya laughed: "I’m stingy and miserly; is this your first day realizing it?"

Suddenly, there were footsteps from upstairs, Vincent’s ears twitched and he quickly released the seeds, whispering: "No one enters a family without becoming part of it."

"You’re back? Did you finish everything?" A deep, calm voice sounded.

Ian Rowe slowly descended the stairs, holding onto the railing.

Maya smiled at Vincent, thinking how quickly he gave in, realizing it was the sudden "pressure" he felt.

"I finished everything and just returned."

Ian nodded slightly: "Any plans for this afternoon?"

"No... Why?"

Somehow, their conversations had become more like everyday chatter.

"We haven’t been to the old house for a while, Grandma misses you. Let’s go visit later."

Feeling lazy, Maya didn’t want to do anything.

But it had indeed been a while since she visited Yolanda Sawyer, and it wouldn’t be right to keep postponing it.

"Alright, I miss Grandma too."

"Go get ready, I’ll wait here for you."

He sat down leisurely, rubbing his temples with slight exhaustion.

Maya followed Ian to the old house once again.

Erin Hayes, wearing a high-collared qipao, greeted them with a smiling face: "Ian, Maya, you both are here. Come, come in. The old lady wasn’t feeling well today, so she sent me to fetch you."

"Auntie Erin, what’s wrong with Grandma?"

Ian’s voice carried concern, and his pace quickened.

"Ah... it’s nothing serious, just her old ailment, a bit of a headache."

"Did you call the doctor?"

"Already called, Dr. Yane said it’s nothing to worry about, just needs some rest."

Erin looked at Ian: "Don’t worry too much, the old lady is always happy to see you come by happily."

Yolanda Sawyer rested in a lounge chair inside, half-reclined, with two maids massaging her shoulders.

She had her eyes half-closed, breathing shallow, but suddenly opened her eyes and smiled: "You’re all here. Come, Maya, let Grandma see if you’ve gained a little weight."

She opened her arms.

Maya’s eyes showed a fleeting complex emotion, then she obediently bowed her head and walked over.

Yolanda patted the top of her head with a kind smile: "Haven’t seen you in a while, Maya. Lift your head so Grandma can take a good look, not sure when we’ll meet next, the more I see you now, the longer I’ll remember."

"Been a bit busy with filming lately, but I’ll make more time to visit Grandma in the future."

Maya lifted her head as she was told, looking very obedient.

"Grandma knows you’re busy, just drop by whenever you think of it."

Yolanda ruffled Maya’s hair: "You’ve lost some weight."

She turned her head to Ian: "Look at how you’re taking care of Maya, it pains me to see her like this."

She then instructed Erin: "Later, have the kitchen prepare some of Maya’s favorite dishes, she’s gotten so thin."

Maya usually ate plenty, but she was happy to accept when good food was offered.

Ian’s gaze stayed on Yolanda for a long time: "Grandma, how has your health been lately?"

Yolanda had Maya sit down.

She rubbed her head lightly: "Nothing wrong, I’ve been living well every day, you don’t need to fret over me daily."

"Oh, right, your aunt is here playing with Tiana, that child is terribly mischievous, running all over, not knowing where she’ll sneak off to. I’m not as agile now, can you go check for me?"

Ian almost immediately sensed Yolanda was trying to send him away, guessed a possibility, and instinctively glanced at Maya.

"Grandma, if you have something to say..."

Yolanda chuckled scoldingly: "You’ll go when I tell you, when did you become so wordy? I just want to talk privately with Maya for a bit, I’m not going to eat her, is it really necessary to be so anxious every day?"

Ian nodded slightly, took one last look at Maya, and left.

After Ian left, Yolanda patted Maya’s hand: "Ian knows to look out for you, that’s a good thing."

Ian looking out for her? How could that be?

Maya’s eyes showed a hint of doubt, but she nodded.

"Come, sit a bit closer, Maya."

Maya could only scoot forward.

Yolanda kept a warm, kind smile on her face: "Haven’t seen you in a while, Maya, how have you been? I heard you’ve been busy filming. I had Erin find the dramas you acted in for me to see. You did really well, none of the others held a candle to you."

Maya knew Yolanda’s words were polite, so she responded in kind: "Probably only Grandma thinks I acted well, honestly I’m just so-so."

Yolanda burst into a hearty laughter: "Haha, wouldn’t think you were so modest."

"How’s everything on set? Getting used to the food? Anyone giving you trouble?"

Maya just shook her head.

"And how is Ian treating you? Still being his unresponsive self from before?"

Maya was getting used to shaking her head.

Yolanda sighed and nodded: "That’s good then..."

Yolanda almost constantly chatted about everyday issues, while Maya just answered a few times. But Maya always felt Yolanda was talking to her not just for these trivial matters, but for some other reason.

Sure enough.

"Maya, if I’m not mistaken, Ian moved back into the bedroom a while ago, didn’t he?"

Maya’s eyelids twitched, but she still nodded.

"Then why... is there still no news about your belly?"
