The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 144: Maya Monroe’s Mischievous Sense of Humor
James Wallace was taken aback, seemingly not expecting such an odd question from the other party.
She wasn’t anyone famous; a backstage worker couldn’t make much of an impact.
Just thinking about it made James feel a bit disdainful.
But perhaps because everyone loves beauty, the moment he saw her face, all his biases and discontent vanished for an instant.
Who doesn’t like beautiful things?
He steadied his thoughts and asked again, his voice unusually gentle, "Who are you?"
Then he heard the other person’s light scoff, a clear scoffing laugh.
Annoyance flickered through James’s heart, but he didn’t lash out as he usually would.
"Are you a new staff member? Are you sitting here because you’re tired? But I’m not too familiar with the internal staff of your show, so can you tell me your name?"
His expression became unusually serious.
He vowed he’d never pretended to be such a gentleman in his life.
Maya Monroe put down her legs, and even without crossing them, her lazy demeanor barely diminished.
"Me..."
James heard her voice, a pleasant sound with a trace of hoarseness, as if she didn’t care much.
A hint of expectation flickered in his eyes.
Maya snorted coldly, her tone suddenly dropping: "I am Maya Monroe."
James was stunned.
"The Maya Monroe who loves to show off."
"The Maya Monroe whose scandals are about to blow up."
"The Maya Monroe who’s both unprincipled and loves to act out."
...
The words he just heard played back in his ear in another form, and James’s expression visibly began to crack.
He raised a hand to wipe his eyes: "Hahaha, you’re really funny, is disguising as others’ pranks in style now?"
James carefully scrutinized Maya’s face, unable to believe what Maya said.
In his mind, Maya had a face as white as flour, lips thick like a sausage, and eyes as if scorched by fire...
Maya looked at his embarrassed and incredulous expression, feeling a sudden streak of pleasure.
After all, a dull life needs something interesting to spice it up.
She casually called over a staff member, her fair fingers lightly tapping on the sofa: "What do you think of my makeup?"
The staff member clicked his tongue in wonder: "It looks so natural, Ms. Monroe!"
Maya smiled at him: "I think I look quite like a star, don’t you?"
James could no longer maintain his smile, the curve of his lips vanished, and then he silently turned away.
If you ignored his slightly chaotic steps, his mental state was actually quite good.
Ryan Spencer, sitting nearby, had watched the show with some amusement: "You’re an adult, yet you still play tricks on others. When did you become so mischievous?"
"How could you call this mischief?"
Maya chuckled softly, seemingly in a good mood: "He was badmouthing me...no, he badmouthed me to my face."
"I’m quite vindictive!
Ryan was both amused and exasperated: "Get ready, it’s almost time to go on stage; remember the most important thing..."
His voice lowered a bit: "Watch out for Alisa Shelby; her motives aren’t just about clashing roles."
Maya glanced at him coolly: "Only telling half the story, why didn’t you mention this before?"
Ryan rubbed his forehead: "If I had told you, would you have listened? Instead of explaining all the complex reasons, it’s better to just tell you what to be aware of. But now that you know, Alisa Shelby will be your competitor for the lead role in ’Mirror.’"
Maya made a sound, honestly not caring much.
Having a rival is actually good; it’d be best if she takes all of Alisa’s resources, so she can just relax at home and enjoy life.
Half an hour before going on stage, Maya finally met Alisa Shelby.
She appeared only after she was done with makeup and styling, never allowing anyone to see her unadorned, and never showed her bare face on social media either.
Just seeing her like this, even Maya had to admit Alisa was indeed beautiful, wearing a pure white fairy dress, with a very ethereal fashion sense, like a sprite dancing in the woods.
Noticing Maya’s gaze, Alisa, who was waiting nearby, glanced over and gently smiled.
Maya chuckled lightly; things were getting more interesting.
According to Ryan, Alisa was not one to be trifled with, yet she didn’t show any outward hostility, quite the skillful tactic.
"Joy Without Limits" has only two fixed hosts, Brian Bennett and Bella Sanford, both extremely skilled, holding significant status in the hosting world.
Brian and Bella took the stage first, performing their routine act, and under the gaze of the loudly cheering audience, Bella slowly smiled into the microphone:
"It seems everyone’s quite looking forward to this lineup of guests! I hear you chanting, is it for FREE?"
Brian smiled, picking up the topic: "It’s not the first time FREE has been on the show, but the enthusiasm hasn’t dwindled at all."
He suddenly looked upwards thoughtfully: "Think about how long Leo and I have kept you company, aren’t you all bored of us yet?"
Bella jokingly chimed in with a laugh: "Our old faces are nowhere near as attractive as the fresh young faces, it’s about time we recognized that."
The audience’s emotions were already stirred up, calling out the hosts’ names louder.
Brian chuckled: "Besides FREE, there are other guests too." He slowly motioned towards the stage: "Hahaha, seems like you’ve all guessed it already, so Leo and I won’t ramble on wasting your time. Let’s warmly welcome the guests on stage!"
With that, the two hosts exited the stage.
The stage instantly became vibrant and colorful, lights flashing in all sorts of dazzling colors, and the sound system boomed with energetic music.
Maya, along with several others, took the stage; her face didn’t bear the same pleasant smile as other guests, looking somewhat reluctant.
As the guests appeared, the atmosphere reached its peak. The audience below went wild, clapping and shouting out the names of their beloved artists.
For a moment, unsure if it was her imagination, Maya faintly heard her own name.
As the music began, the members of FREE took their microphones and started to sing passionately, while the other guests needed to dance freely to the music.
This was a tradition of "Joy Without Limits," where every episode required a stage show from the guests, giving them ample opportunity to showcase themselves.
Prior to the show, they all went through specific rehearsals.
