The Thorne of Destiny-Chapter 85: Mist Beast
Chapter 85: Mist Beast
His father didn’t respond and simply smiled at him.
That smile...
Adrian’s blood ran cold. It wasn’t right. It stretched too far, too calmly, without reaching the eyes.
He stepped back. "You’re not my father."
The study shimmered. Just like the mirror. Just like the garden.
"Adrian," the Patriarch said suddenly, rising to his feet. "You’ve been under stress. Come, sit. I’ll make some tea. Let us speak as father and son."
Adrian stared in disbelief as his father walked over to the kettle. He poured steaming water into two jade cups.
But there was no steam. No sound. No scent of tea.
It was all fake.

Meanwhile, in another part of the maze, Julian and his group had just finished dealing with the crossbow formation array.
Luckily for them, none of them were killed. However, they did suffer varying degrees of injuries.
The most injured among them was the young man who charged forward initially. An arrow could still be seen piercing his shoulder, as his blood dyed his robes red.
While gritting his teeth, he pulled out the arrow, making him grunt in pain. He immediately took out a pill from his storage ring and popped it into his mouth.
Others mimicked his movements, taking various potions and pills that could restore their Qi and their health.
Even Julian was not exempt from this, as he retrieved a pill from his storage ring. This one had a different luster from the one that others used.
He swallowed it, and his appearance changed almost immediately. His face, which was pale due to his depleting Qi, now had a bit of color to it.
"Alright, we’ll rest here for a while. Who knows if we’ll encounter any other danger if we leave this place?" He stated. freewёbnoνel.com
"Yes, senior brother." The others responded, not disagreeing with his decision.
A full day had almost passed since they entered the mystic realm. They couldn’t tell what time of day it was since the sky above the maze didn’t change.
Still, the fatigue in their bodies gave them a clue. Even if they were Golden Core realm cultivators, they still had to rest from time to time.
Their bodies might be fine, but their minds were tired. They had been fighting beasts throughout the Misty Mountains before entering this mystic realm.
Still, not all of them could rest. A few of them had to stay alert in case they were attacked. They did this in rotation until all of them were fully rested.
Julian gave the order for them to keep moving forward. For the next few corridors, they didn’t encounter any danger.
The one-armed man, still the scout, suddenly signalled for the group to stop. The path they were taking led to a dead end.
After facing various challenges, the preplanned routes had already been forgotten, and they were just going on their gut instincts. The path they were on led to a space that resembled a room.
It could be described as a calm, circular room with no visible danger at first, which heightened the tension, instead of reducing it.
The circular room was about thirty meters wide, with smooth stone tiles underfoot and walls carved with faded murals depicting ancient battles between man and beast. At first glance, it seemed like a place where one could rest inside this chaotic maze.
The light in the room dimmed unnaturally. Qi fluctuations erupted in every direction, and a massive circular formation lit up beneath their feet,
burning with silver and black runes. Before they could move, the exit behind them sealed shut with a flash of golden light.
From the center of the room, a mist began to rise, obscuring the vision of everyone inside. The growls became louder, more distinct.
From the mist, the faint silhouette of a beast could be seen manifesting from the depths.
All the members of the group suddenly felt a shiver down their spines as they immediately brought out their weapons.
The aura the beast was emitting made all of them sweat. The pressure exuding from it was that of a peak Rank 3 beast. A peak rank three was at the same level as someone at the peak of the Golden Core realm.
Beasts could usually overpower a cultivator at the same realm. Seeing that none of them were even at the same cultivation base as the beast, they began to get a bit nervous.
However, they were still disciples of the War Machine Sect, one of the five Super sects on the Floating Cloud continent. They would never run away from a battle.
Well, it wasn’t as if they could run away. They were already trapped in this room with the beast. The only way they could escape was to defeat the beast.
The beast took the shape of a feline creature, though they couldn’t determine what kind. Only the vague silhouette of the beast’s body could be seen.
The mist that made its body didn’t give it any defining features. A low growl from the beast snapped them from their thoughts.
All of them brought out their weapons and prepared for battle. They knew they could not slack off when facing a beast as powerful as the one in front of them.
Julian took a step forward, raising his blade. Since he was the strongest, he had to be the vanguard of this battle.
"Spread out!" He shouted to the others. He planned to surround it and overwhelm it with numbers. With six individuals, he still had hope to win. However, before they could attack, the beast suddenly made its move.
The Beast didn’t wait. With a flicker of motion, it lunged. Its target was the one-armed man. It seemed to have targeted him as the weakest member of the group.
"Dammit!" The one-armed man cursed. He swung his sword towards the beast that had lunged at him. Even though he was surprised, he was still able to react to the attack of the beast.
However, he didn’t expect what happened next. His sword passed through the mist, not doing any damage to it at all. His eyes widened in shock when that happened.
