The Tender Beauty is Sweetly Doted in the 20th Century Novel!-Chapter 257 - 255: Let Me Come With You, Please?
It took quite some time to take care of He Chen in the evening, so Ye Manman woke up half an hour later than usual in the morning.
But He Chen was still lying on the bed with his eyes closed.
"Could it be that the fever hasn’t gone down?"
Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly propped up her arm to check the temperature on his forehead with her hand.
At this moment, He Chen silently opened his eyes.
"What? You’ve been awake the whole time?"
At first glance, his face still had a bit of post-illness weakness, but in no time he returned to normal. Ye Manman playfully slapped his face.
He Chen wasn’t angry, but instead turned over affectionately, holding her hand and snuggling into her embrace.
"Honey, I’m sorry for scaring you last night."
"I shouldn’t have gone to bed without covering myself after showering, making you take care of sick me while pregnant."
His voice was muffled.
As a grown man, having his pregnant wife take care of his sick self was utterly embarrassing.
Business hadn’t been settled these past few days, and most of the small issues in the company were resolved yesterday, so he simply didn’t go to work today.
"Are you going back again after you return?"
It was rare for him to speak in such a gruff voice; it sounded like a burly man acting coy.
Ye Manman found it amusing and playfully pinched his nose.
"Of course I have to go back. Your fever’s gone now, and won’t you be going to the office later? I can’t just leave Jiang Yuan and the others at Grandpa’s, can I?"
Mentioning them, she suddenly remembered the things she bought for him yesterday that he hadn’t seen yet.
She quickly got up.
"By the way, since you’re still home and not busy with work, why not try on the clothes and shoes I bought for you? I got you several sets yesterday, meant to surprise you, but who knew you’d have such a serious fever."
"Seriously, I was just away from home for a day, how could you not take care of yourself like that?"
She furrowed her brows, playfully punching his chest.
It didn’t hurt at all.
It was more like scratching an itch.
He Chen chuckled foolishly, "You bought me things?"
He quickly got out of bed, slipped on his slippers, and was about to go check.
Ye Manman hurriedly called after him, "Put on your clothes first, you’ve just recovered from a cold, don’t get sick again."
"Okay!"
He Chen obediently walked swiftly to the wardrobe, pulled out two pieces of clothing, put them on, and only then excitedly opened the door.
The living room was piled with bags and boxes, all stacked together.
He Chen’s eyes lit up, and he crouched down in front of those things, carefully picking one up, then grinning and turning to look at Ye Manman.
"Honey, this outfit looks great."
He only glanced at a corner, making such an empty-headed compliment, how silly.
But this made him genuinely adorable.
"Quick, try them on. I’ve matched them all, a set in each bag, you figure out which shoes to pair them with, I bought three pairs, enough to match with those three outfits."
Yawning, Ye Manman happily walked to brush her teeth and wash her face.
He Chen let out an "eh," and without freshening up, changed clothes right in the living room. After changing, he proudly patted the corner of his coat beside her.
"They feel very fitting, really comfortable to wear. Honey, what do you think? Do they look good?"
When he asked if they looked good, there was a slight afterthought of shyness, but this wasn’t her first time buying him clothes and shoes; his face had been trained to a certain thickness.
Thus, he stubbornly stood straight under Ye Manman’s scrutinizing gaze, even turning sideways occasionally, for her convenience.
Ye Manman rinsed her mouth, wiped her face with a towel, and then tiptoed in front of him to help straighten his turned-up collar before taking half a step back with a satisfied nod.
"Yes, not bad at all. No wonder I picked both the man and the clothes myself."
This set was best suited for work, with a suit, shirt, and leather shoes, exuding more class than what he used to buy.
He Chen liked it very much, almost cherished it.
But thinking about the other two outfits, he reluctantly took them off.
"Heh heh, I’ll try the other ones now."
Taking advantage of Ye Manman’s wet towel moment, he sneakily kissed her on the cheek.
Ye Manman ignored him, continuing to wash her face, but her mouth involuntarily curved up.
When she finished washing and applying moisturizer, He Chen was already dressed in the second set.
This set had a sporty style, with bright colors paired with sneakers.
The originally oversized clothes fit him very well, slightly loose but not overly so, perfect for running or other physical activities without feeling too tight.
Ye Manman also thought he might not have much time for exercising, but there might always come a day he needed it. Besides, this type of clothing could also double as casual wear, so she bought it anyway.
And since he caught a cold yesterday, didn’t that just prove that he indeed needed to get more exercise?
The sportswear seemed timely!
And compared to those serious and dull clothes, this sporty outfit made him look several years younger.
Now he looked like a proper young guy.
Ye Manman watched him spin around and nodded in approval once more.
"This one’s good too, you’ve been too busy lately to pay attention to your routine. Remember to carve out time to exercise; after all, your life’s changed from farming suddenly. If you get too comfortable too quickly, your body might not handle it, so go for a run now and then."
He Chen also believed this reasoning. After all, he’d hardly been sick his whole life, but this fever really got to him.
"Okay, I’ll listen to you."
He indeed felt that his current lifestyle wasn’t very active, and he sometimes missed farming — the constant sitting and thinking wasn’t quite comfortable for him.
"Hmm."
Ye Manman finished dressing, checked the time while combing her hair, and felt that Jiang Yuan and the others must also be up, urging him to quickly try the third set.
He Chen naturally pranced off to change clothes, soon returning in a casual outfit.
He hardly had any casual clothes, so Ye Manman bought a set when she saw one.
He used to have just two types of clothes: workwear and labor clothes.
Either formal or practical and simple.
Now, with a relaxed white T-shirt, black pants, topped off with lightweight black casual shoes, he looked incredibly handsome.
A subtle, comfortable vibe emanated from the outfit, softening He Chen’s usually robust facial features considerably.
"Perfect! All three sets are great; no need to exchange them."
Ye Manman was content with her taste, whether in choosing men or clothes, she nailed it.
She took another look at the time, picked up her bag, and prepared to leave.
"Aren’t you going to the company? Besides the sportswear, you can wear this or the first set. You can also wash them first, I’ll be heading to Grandpa’s; Jiang Yuan and they are waiting for me."
She talked as she walked to the door to put on her shoes.
He Chen hugged her from behind, kissed her ear gently.
"I’m not going to the office today; I’ll go with you."
"Huh?"
Ye Manman tilted her head up, puzzled.
"Haven’t you been really busy lately? Can you really not go? I can go to Grandpa’s alone; don’t worry about me."
She thought he was worried about her going out being unsafe.
Unexpectedly, He Chen nuzzled her face gently.
"It’s not busy these days—I already dealt with everything before coming back yesterday. We haven’t spent a day together in ages, I want to be with you. Please let me tag along, okay?"
