The Tempting Educated Youth Married to a Rough Man-Chapter 38: I’m the King of Lucky Finds
Wen Ran put away the letter, with a face full of sighs.
Tsk tsk tsk, oh my, this is so thrilling.
Seeing the Wen Family making such a mess of things, her heart felt a slight bit of comfort.
Accompanied by joy, Wen Ran had a sweet night’s sleep.
The next day, the autumn harvest began with great fanfare.
Wen Ran was still collecting pigweed as usual, but her task was heavier.
Previously, just collecting three baskets was enough, but now, Wen Ran had to gather six baskets.
As for the reason...
The children were all enthusiastically participating in the autumn harvest, gleaning wheat stalks, driving away birds, eager to run errands for adults.
Collecting pigweed...
Wasn’t very city.
Wen Ran didn’t mind, she blissfully completed the six baskets of pigweed, handed in the day’s task, and happily went home.
For several consecutive days, everyone else was busy, making Wen Ran feel idle.
Immersed in collecting pigweed, she lifted her head to find the sun still high, and not far in the mountains, birds were chirping and insects were buzzing, lush and verdant.
Wen Ran always felt as if something in the mountains was beckoning her, urging her to go and take a look. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to go, until she finished handing in the pigweed and watched the scorer give her six points.
By the time she returned to her senses, Wen Ran had already strolled halfway up the mountain with her basket.
Wen Ran: "..."
Well, whatever, she’s already here.
She quickened her pace and headed up the mountain.
It’s not as beautiful as she imagined, with prey everywhere.
Instead, the mountain seemed somewhat desolate.
Wen Ran secretly reckoned, maybe it’s because autumn has come?
She took a very secluded path, rarely traveled by people.
However, there was some harvest, she found three plump rabbits and two gray wild chickens along the way...
Of course, they didn’t become Wen Ran’s meal.
Finding doesn’t mean catching.
Looking at those nimble little creatures, Wen Ran could only watch regretfully as they hopped away and vanished in a flash.
There were also some wild fruits, looking very appealing in their red hue, but they were actually a trap.
Wen Ran picked one and tried it, the sourness stung her teeth, scrunching her features together, she spat it out several times and hurriedly threw the fruit away.
After rinsing her mouth, Wen Ran belatedly felt scared, realizing she had eaten without knowing if it was poisonous. Fortunately, it was just sour, if it were poisonous, she’d now be lying flat.
Feeling both relieved and scared, she continued walking and found in front of her a walnut tree seven or eight meters high, a large and sturdy walnut tree.
Because autumn had arrived, only half of the leaves remained, with the walnuts hanging precariously.
Wen Ran’s eyes lit up, she carried her basket and climbed up. Once on the tree, she couldn’t help but marvel that she hadn’t climbed a tree in ages, completely surprised by her own agility.
After picking most of the basket full of walnuts, Wen Ran was sweating profusely.
"Woo~ whimper~~"
Wen Ran: "?"
She felt as though she heard the whimpering of a small animal nearby.
Wen Ran wiped away her sweat with her hand, glanced around unsure, seeing the tree quiet and the wind still, everything calm and peaceful, not seeming like there was any living thing around.
She swallowed her doubts and began picking again.
But after putting only a few walnuts in the basket, the whimpering sound clearly entered her ears, this time Wen Ran couldn’t deceive herself, claiming she heard wrong. There was clearly something there.
She didn’t dare stay on the tree, quickly picking up three or five more, put them in her basket, and quickly climbed down.
As she landed on the ground, she noticed something moving among the fallen leaves at her feet.
Wen Ran: "!"
She jumped three feet high.
The fallen leaves trembled and shortly did a grey head pop out.
Wen Ran stared wide-eyed, somewhat unsure, "Puppy?"
Seeming to feel Wen Ran’s presence, the little puppy turned over among the leaves, extending its soft paws, taking steps towards Wen Ran, step by step.
Finally, it lay on top of her feet, motionless.
Wen Ran: "!"
She admitted, she was cutely won over.
Gently picking up the puppy, Wen Ran thought of the Red Army that Xiao Chenye had at home. If the puppy she picked up could grow up to be as majestic as the Red Army...
What more could she worry about!
It’d be great for guarding the house and yard!
Wen Ran laughed and placed the puppy in the basket, as the puppy nestled among the walnuts let out a tender bark, she could even see its pink throat.
Oh heavens!
It’s really quite adorable.
Seeing it was getting dark, Wen Ran decided to head back home, fearing that if she didn’t leave now, she might lose her way in the dark forest.
With the puppy, she walked for half an hour, and out of the corner of her eye noticed a huge object lurking.
A wild boar.
Suddenly, Wen Ran felt her scalp tingle, her hands and feet moved faster than her brain.
By the time she realized, she had already climbed back up the tree at extreme speed.
The wild boar beneath remained silent.
Wen Ran: "?"
Could it be dead?
She wasn’t sure, took a walnut from her basket and aimed it at the boar, it didn’t move.
Then Wen Ran relaxed.
Scared to death.
As for playing dead?
Wild boars don’t have that kind of intelligence for now.
Wen Ran slipped down, grabbed the boar to check, and realized it hadn’t died long, the body was still warm.
A freebie, bring it home.
As Wen Ran was busy hoisting the boar home, she didn’t notice the flash of eerie green light in the corner.
"Wen Ran!"
Seeing Xiao Chenye suddenly appear in front of her, Wen Ran couldn’t believe her eyes, "When did you get back?"
Xiao Chenye had driven the truck off on a long journey ten days ago, with no set return.
Wen Ran hadn’t expected to see him in the mountains, naturally not realizing that at the moment she saw him, her heart was mixed with secret joy.
Xiao Chenye looked displeased, took a deep breath, "How come you’re climbing the mountain alone, don’t you know how dangerous it is?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"It’s alright," she replied.
Xiao Chenye: "."
Looking at the wild boar in Wen Ran’s hands, he was speechless, finally managing to speak, "You... caught this?"
"No," Wen Ran admitted she was just strong, and she didn’t have the skill to catch boars, but she could capitalize on opportunities.
"I found it."
Xiao Chenye: "?"
He crouched down to inspect the boar, realizing Wen Ran really wasn’t lying.
The boar’s wounds were clear signs of fierce animal attack, with the fatal one on the neck.
"Yeah!" Wen Ran cheerfully lifted the puppy from the basket, "Look, I found this one too."
Xiao Chenye didn’t look up, chuckled, "You didn’t return empty-handed from your mountain trip, picking bits here and there."
"Right," Wen Ran held the puppy, "I also found a walnut tree with lots of walnuts on it. I picked half a basket, planning to share some with Aunt Xiao later."
"Hmm," Xiao Chenye stood, intending to lecture Wen Ran a bit; a young lady shouldn’t just dash into the mountains without a word. It’s too dangerous. But lifting his head, seeing the puppy she was holding, he was completely petrified.
