The Systems Challenge-Chapter 404: Morning Announcement
Chapter 404: Morning Announcement
Kim wasn't sure what the problem was, but she could tell that whatever it was, it wasn't an emergency. Which merely added to her annoyance at getting woken up so early.
It was clear to her that Elmo and Jonas were discussing... something. She wasn't sure what it was about, but she could tell that there was something that Jonas said that had gotten Elmo worked up.
However, since it didn't have anything to do with her, she turned over and wrapped her arms around the two girls under her blanket with her. Elin and Elysia.
While she hadn't expected it, apparently Elysia had been interested in Elin, but didn't realize that Elin and Kim had a relationship at the time. Though, Kim didn't see why that should be a problem, especially since she didn't mind getting a taste of the firebird in her human form. Although, she was a little nervous about Elysia's parents nearby while they enjoyed their activities under their blankets through the night.
In the end, either they didn't notice, which Kim had her doubts about, or they were fine with it. Though, as far as Kim knew, Elysia could be still a child, as far as firebirds were considered, but she at least looked like she was around 18, so she didn't see a problem with it. Especially since Elysia's parents were her only real concern about sleeping with her.
Kim wasn't sure where Etaina slept the night before, but ass she tried getting back to sleep, she became aware of Etaina watching them. Not because she saw the girl, but because, even with her eyes closed, she could feel Etaina watching them.
So, she opened her eyes, found where he felt the gaze coming from, and found Etaina, watching them. Like he expected them to start up their activities from the night before again. Which Kim doubted would happen given the fact that the dawn wasn't far off and everyone else was about to start getting up soon enough anyway. Which would, in turn, remove even the sense of privacy the dark of the night had provided.
"Waiting for something?" Kim asked, wondering if maybe her assumptions were mistaken. After all, Etaina was a little young to have started getting a dirty mind like her own.
Etaina didn't seem to react to Kim's question, but instead asked her own. "When with Elysia wake up? It's getting boring here."
Kim glanced at Elysia, who was sleeping peacefully with her weight mostly on Elin, which had given Kim access to her body a little while they slept. She pushed the dirty thoughts out of her mind so she wouldn't let anything slip while she spoke to the little girl.
"It's hard to say," Kim replied out loud. "It is early in the day."
"She's always been up this early before," Etaina complained, her expression taking on the aspect of being annoyed.
"Well, maybe all the time she'd been worried about... uh, Douglas had worn her out more than either of you realized," Kim said, not wanting to comment about how their 'activities' during the night had been the primary cause Elysia was probably still asleep at the moment.
"Really?"
Kim sighed. The expression Etaina had when she asked that question was o full of trust that she felt guilty for not telling the little girl exactly what her suspicions were, in regard to why Elysia was so tired, but she also wanted to spare the girl's mind any effect the truth would have on her. It certainly was a delicate balance, and while Kim might not get in any legal trouble for talking about that here, she suspected that Etaina's parent would also take a dim view of her 'dirtying' up Etaina's mind.
"It's likely," Kim replied, choosing her word carefully. She figured not giving definite answers to Etaina's questions would likely help her own feelings on the matter as well as keeping from having to tell Etaina things that the girl really didn't need to know right then.
"Well, would you spend time with me?" Etaina asked, looking like she was on the verge of tear.. "Elysia usually spends time with me now."

Kim sighed as she saw her hopes of going back to sleep with two beautiful women evaporating in front of her. "Sure," she said, hoping this meant that the conversation up to this point wouldn't continue. Or at least in the direction that she'd been trying to avoid.
Kim looked around for her clothing, as while Etaina was just as female as she was, Kim was pretty sure she didn't need to see Kim come out from under the blanket completely naked. That wasn't something she thought would help the girl as she grew up. Maybe Etaina has seen things like that before, but Kim couldn't be sure and even if that was the case, that didn't make it a good thing.
Besides, there could easily be things that Kim hadn't thought of that the girl may or may not notice as a result of that. Things that would be more likely to lead the girl to having a dirty mind later on in her life. Which Kim wouldn't like, given how pure her mind seemed at the moment.
Once she found her clothing, she quickly put it on and climbed out from under the blanket, careful to not expose Elin's body to the morning air. Partly because that could potentially wake Elin up and partly because of the same reasons she got dressed before coming out from under the blanket.
As she left the two in blissful slumber, Kim got up and took Etaina's hand as she led the girl away. When Elin and Elysia woke up, she doubted either would care for Etaina to be nearby. Mostly because of the position they were in rather than how they felt about the girl.
"What've you been up to this morning?" Kim asked, unsure what else to say. She didn't really know what the girl was interested in, but she had to say something or get bored in the silence.
"Elmo was funny this morning," Etaina remarked cheerfully. "He was drooling and mumbling something. Jonas didn't seem to know what to do about it, either. It was funny."
Kim nodded, not sure exactly what the girl meant, but didn't feel like pushing the issue. At least not when she couldn't be sure what she might be stepping into.
As Kim chatted with the girl, she noticed the morning getting brighter as dawn approached, and wasn't surprised when others, who apparently either slept through Elmo's outburst or were able to get back to sleep after it, were getting up.
Though, Etaina didn't even turn her attention away from Kim when her parents woke up and walked by, smiling at how their daughter had found a friend to spend time with. Kim only hoped that there wouldn't be a problem for them to find where Elysia was at that moment, assuming she and Elin were still asleep.
However, as breakfast was starting to get made, the morning announcement came. One that gave information Kim hadn't expected in multiple ways.
"Good morning contestants!" the announcer suddenly called out inside their heads. "We finally have a resolution to our latest challenge! While se had brought over a family of firebirds, all but one of that family have been essentially captured by Heather Goldblum, Bart McKenzie, Elmo Garcia, Sonya Harris, Elin Davies, Kim O'Hare, Elwin Bell, Jonas McCain, Patricia McIntyre, Patrick Sullivan, and Owen Andrews.
"We lost track of three of the birds, but those mentioned were able to get them to remain close to them through an entire night and so complete the challenge as the committee has determined. We're not going to try to figure out where three of the firebirds disappeared to when they're back again, as we don't have time for that while there's still one more challenge to go.
"The final challenge will be to locate, and bring back to the dungeon at the start of the challenges, the Book of Living. All who are a part of the group that brings it to that location will be considered to have completed the challenge.
"Also, it was brought to our attention that one contestant had use a locating spell on one of the firebirds. However, it was determined that the spell wasn't meant to locate the firebird as part of the challenge, nor was that contestant aware what they were looking for was a firebird, but rather for reasons unrelated to the challenge. As such, we will not be issuing a penalty for the violation. We could have mentioned this earlier, but then we feared that would have given additional information that not everyone would have understood, which, in turn, would have unbalanced the competition and made it unfair.
"Aside from all that, we hope that everyone will continue to try their best! Especially since we already have a record number of surviving challengers who have made it this far already.
"Oh, and one last thing. We have a few contestants who have reached 10 or more completed challenges. We won't be reminding anyone who they are, but if a contestant is able to kill a contestant who has 10 completed challenges, the one who killed them will be given an additional completed challenge. For those who have completed more than 10, an additional completed challenge will be awarded to the one who killed them."
