Chapter 54: Benjamin Mark, I Love You!

"Kuzunoha!"

I heard a deep growl call her name before someone—a very beautiful, short-haired tanned girl—appeared in the air coming down, and swung a large... weapon(?) at her.

A pink bubble-like substance emerged to shield Kuzunoha, it was glittering and dense, but the weapon—something that should resemble a massive hammer, except the mass at the top was a rough and jagged amalgamation of thorns and sharp weapons forcefully merged together—burst through the barrier like it was a slightly hardened but thin film.

The impact rang out like thunder cracking stone, and Kuzunoha was sent flying at a crazy speed, tumbling through the air in a haze of pink fur and tails before she crashed into the flat part of a hillside with enough force to fissure the earth and send dust exploding upward in a choking cloud. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

However, when her eyes opened, King Leorin was before her, wrapping his arms around her... and he was smiling with those big fangs.

"You don’t look away from a battle, Kuzunoha-chan." It turns out, he had somehow managed to take the hit, protecting her.

The stepmothers’ voices could be heard from afar calling for Leorin and Kuzunoha, desperate and distressing, as blood dropped in large flows on Kuzunoha; dark red fluid soaking into her fur and kimono, spreading in thick rivulets down her side.

Then a shrill shout emerged from Kuzunoha’s mouth. She burst and exploded with pink-blue energy, a violent wave of power that ripped outward in all directions, cracking the ground and sending shockwaves through the battlefield.

The short-haired tanned girl leapt up very high, coming down to smash Kuzunoha again with that monstrous weapon.

But all of the horned figures, including the hornless tanned girl, all began to float, going upward, till they disappeared into the sky, leaving faint black mist trailing behind them like smoke from dying embers.

I don’t really know what Kuzunoha suddenly do to them, but the battlefield was only left with beastkin and some humans too... And...

Was that Renard standing there? With a woman that genuinely looked like Elara, except for her white hair.

Nah, Renard is a human king in this era. And this memory should be about twelve thousand years ago too.

The scene cut to a closed chamber that was very large, meant for a giant. And Leorin was on a bed-like cushion on the ground, while his wives cried around him, hugging his large frame.

He glanced contentedly at everyone there, muttering tender words to them, then smiled with his golden eyes softening at Kuzunoha a little far off—she was also a giant, the only one there who was around his size.

"You did well, Kuzunoha-chan. The Seventh Celestial War has largely ended because of what you did for me. I’m grateful to you."

Then he patted some of the women crying on him, including the children there: small fox-featured children in different colors of fur, including a certain pink; small bunny girls, including a certain golden-browned one with red eyes, among others.

Leorin sure had a massive family with a lot of children, it seems. Made me envy him just a little, as a man who had nothing much in his past life.

I could definitely understand why he was smiling despite being on his death bed.

"Do not weep excessively, my flowers. I die not as a sad man at all... I die a very happy man... And like I always say... As I had you all, I had the world. Farewell... my lovely... fa... mily."

He protected his family, he protected his world, with the bare minimum of him alone dying... How nice.

The scene cut again to the stepmoms asking Kuzunoha if she would follow them to... Verdant Spire(?) to meet their specialist sorceress there, but Kuzunoha didn’t reply and only stared blankly in this very chamber.

Finally, the images cut off, and I was back to the present... utterly soaked in both my tears, but mostly Kuzunoha’s.

"Leorin..." She sobbed, squeezing my body to her face. "It was... all my fault..."

In my face was also tears, but I didn’t know when I had spilled them at all. And I was also feeling every bit the sorrow Kuzunoha was feeling, though our current connection.

This is where I consoled her, but I didn’t have much to say, so I just rubbed her forehead.

"It’s alright. I might not be King Leorin himself," I started, "but I know for sure: he loved you so very much. And it wasn’t your fault that he died. If anything, it was your own doing that made it so Sakura and the others are now able to smile today. I’m sure King Leorin would be so damn proud of you, Kuzunoha. You really did well."

As she looked at me, more tears spilled as her sob grew louder, with groaning and ugly weeping.

And just like that, I had successfully made all of King Leorin’s wives cry...

Yeah, I’m still turning into something I don’t recognize. And hey, allow me to enjoy my Arch Human days a bit!

We had a few more chats, after Kuzunoha had calmed down; about the worlds we inhabit and all.

I didn’t understand much of what she said... aside from, the three aboriginal sisters Earth, Elyndor, and Diana were on good terms compared to the other "Originators," so transmigration around the worlds is relatively easy, compared to others.

And apparently, she wasn’t an earthling. She is a god-touched from Diana.

Anyway, time had flown fast, and it was time for us to leave, so we waved Kuzunoha:

"Benjamin Mark, I love you!"
